Good morning from Sfakera. We woke to almost full cloud cover with just bit of blue about and lots of grey. A light wind kept the clouds moving; a hint of sun at 8:30am and odd glimpse since. Albania was almost hidden behind very low cloud cover. AT times very big dark clouds around but they have all passed and the sunny intervals are lasting a bit longer. It was 19.6 at 8:30am.
Yesterday was a sunny day; often hazy with very thin high clouds. There was a light wind during the afternoon but the afternoon sun was very warm and ended with a bright yellow sunset. After the sky stayed very bluish to the west with some pebbled grey small clouds around and the few brightest stars showing as was a very thin crescent moon. You could make out the whole moon clearly. AFter it was fully dark it was well starlit and there were fireflies.
Maximum temperature was 29.0c , minimum was 17.7c

Good morning from Sfakera where it is a fresh but sunny start to the day. Plenty of individual white clouds around, mainly small, with a few greyer clouds towards Albania. The sea is choppy but the whitetops have gone for now. It was just 14.4c at 7am.
Monday: The cloud cover increased and just after 9am it was very dark grey over Roda, Acharavi. The wind was always increasing in gusts and the clouds being low kept moving up and over our hills; shrugging the shoulders of the lower ones on the way. By midday we were having gusts of F4 and by 1pm the sun had arrived and stayed with us mostly the rest of the day. The wind however picked up to gusting F5-6 keeping any clouds moving quickly. The sun was bright at times but thw wind kept the temperature down and it was hard to find a sheltered spot; a shame for Roda….the first day the beach tavernas were open (not all of them) and we get the wind from the North. There was a bright yellow sunset and it was only just before then that the wind began to ease. It was a starlit night with a nice crescent moon. Maximum temperature was 24.1c, minimum was 18.0c.
Yesterday we woke to plenty of blue sky, the only cloud being a big bank of grey to the north and north east. The sun was up and there was a light wind. The clouds rolled in very quickly as forecast and a storm was due around midday (they talked of heavy rains, lightning, thunder). It was short glimpses of sun and by 10:30am it was gone as the clouds darkened. Just after midday the rain started but almost as quickly it stopped......just long enough for me to get my washing in which was just about dry. The shower didn't even leave the ground wet!. The wind, was now gusting and picking up and the sea soon became full of whitetops. The clouds started to move away and the threatened storm had passed us bye (the news revealed very heavy rains in northern Greece) to give us some sun after 1pm. The clouds kept going but remained big and fluffy over our hills and especially over Albania; the wind increased again to an almost continual gusting F6 which didn't ease until just before the bright yellow sun set at 8:47pm. As the sun set there was a bank of grey cloud to the NW; under this was a lovely yellowy orange horizon; above it the crescent moon and a few stars were already visible. The sea was still rough but the whitetops were easing a little. As nightfell the wind stopped and we had a good display of stars though not a full sky. Maximum temperature was 24.1, minimum was 17.0c.

Well what a difference a week makes even in Greece at the end of May. Just over a week ago we had a heatwave with a maximum temperature of nearly 42c on the mainland. Yesterday in Northern Greece there was snow, not just a dusting either but a good half inch and deeper due to the wind blowing it around. Other places had hailstones, torrential rain and roads turning to little streams. How did we do...….see below

Good morning from Sfakera where the recent winds have certainly freshened up the air. The sun is up, there are plenty of high thin white whispy clouds around. The air is still but it is hazy towards the sea and around Albania. It was 15c at 7:30am.
Yesterday morning the wind came early and was gusting to F3, clouds were high and thin but big fluffy banks with grey underbellies were building over our hills and mountains and ALbania. In the early afternoon the wind increased to gusting F4-5 but it stayed sunny and felt warm sat out between the gusts of wind. The sea again became a mass of whitetops. Dark grey cloud in a massive bank enveloped Albania and moved slowly towards us from the north, North east and east. ALbania soon vanished and the sun here was gone by 5:45pm as distant rumbles were heard. Rain started at about 6:20 but surprisingly considering the cloud it only lasted 10 minutes. More again at 6:57 but this time just for 3 minutes. The wind was easing and the threatening cloud still there. Watching the news re the weather on the mainland (see above) I was wondering what was coming. Well under the bank of cloud to the west the sun started to brighten the sky after 7:50pm and as the sun dropped to set so we had sun from about 8:20 for half an hour; brigh t yellow on the horizon before dipping out of sight but with the dark grey bank above; this bank was darker nearer to Albania you looked. Above the sunset the grey became purple for a while. Rain started again at 9:45pm and this time it continued but it was light and still only lasted about 45 minutes. So we again got off very lightly compared to the mainland and the forecast.
The maximum temperature was 22.8c (real feel at times 25c) and the minimum was 14.2c.

Good morning from Sfakera; the sun is up and the air is still but we have plenty of cloud around from East to West via the North and its mostly grey in colour with white edges. There are gaps of blue around. Albania is just visible as a shadow but while there is low cloud and haze over the sea all looks much calmer this morning. It was 17.4c at 7:30am.
Yesterday was a lovely sunny morning, light wind with gusts no more than a F2. The high wispy clouds remaining and bigger fluffy clouds building over our hills and over Albania. In the afternoon the wind slowly picked up and by late afternoon it was gusting at F5; the sea a mass of whitetops again. The high clouds were blown away and the sun was out; in a lull in the wind it was really warm but the lulls were just too short. The winds won and brought in bigger clouds to the north and north west; thin but with some grey to them. After the bright yellow sunset there was a purple tint to the grey clouds for a while. It was a mainly starlit night.
Maximum temperature was 23.4c and minimum was 14.7c.

Good morning from Sfakera; the sun is up the sky has just a few minute whispy clouds otherwise it is blue, the sea is calm with a sea mist towards Albania. The air is still, the birds are singing and it was 16.1c at 8am.
Yesterday a light wind came before 9:30 and the clouds slowly began to disperse but there was always some high thin cloud around. As the morning progressed so we had more sunshine. Early afternoon the wind picked up again but this time nothing more than a F2-3 gusting but not so regular as previous days. In the lulls it was very pleasant sat out in the sun. After 4:30pm there was hardly a cloud apart from over our hills and over Albania; just the odd passing fluffy cloud. Sunset was a bright yellow ball of fire as it slipped away behind Karousades hill. SOme yellow, purple skies as the moon shone high above and the first stars began to flicker. It was followed by a starlit night; the bats circling around the street light; the edible dormice playing in the tree.
The maximum was 24.8c (real feel 27c) and the minimum was 16.4c.

Good morning from a damp Sfakera. Woken at 2:40 by my dogs there was lightning across from the west to the north. Shortly after thunder (but it never got as loud as usual) and rains, heavy at times. WHilst the thunder soon stopped the rains continued on and off through til nearly 8am when it was 16c. There is a grey bank to the SW otherwise it is high thin white clouds manly but with plenty blue to the west and north west. The sun is trying to get through slightly thicker clouds to the east and hasn't succeeded as yet. The air is still and damp. The plants look like they loved it as it was much needed for the ground.
Yesterday quickly large fluffy clouds with mostly grey underbellies rolled in from the SW so we just had sunny intervals after 9:30am......Roda seemed to have much more sun than we did here in Sfakera though just a mile down the road. There was a light wind. AT 12:20 there was a short heavy shower and a bit of thunder but it eased after just 20 minutes and the clouds began to thin and disperse by 1pm. They never went away completely but we had long sunny intervals with a gusting F2-3 wind pushing the clouds bye. Eventually the clouds began to build and get thicker and it was just a hazy sun after 5:30 and it was mostly gone by 7:30 so we had no sunset. It was initially partly starlit but felt chillier than of late even though the temperature was not lower.
Maximum was 22.4c (a real feel between gusts of wind of 25c) and the minimum was 14.7c

So end of May...…….we had 8 days with rain against average of 6. BUT on two of them it was just spots that didn't even wet the ground and on one other it was just for a few minutes of light spots. All in all a dry month.

Kalo Mina from Sfakera; we have almost full cloud cover, mostly high and thin and whiter than yesterday but there are fluffy grey clouds below and some banks of grey to the South. There are also a few hints of blue. The air is still but there is no sign of the sun. It was 15.6c at 7am.
Yesterday ended the month being wet. After the early hours thunderstorm the morning clouds soon thinned out and we had sun by 9:30am with a light wind gusting to F2. Sadly by midday large banks of grey cloud were back from the south and south west, the wind eased and we just had short sunny intervals for a while. Then we had a short sharp shower from 1:30pm for half an hour. A bit of sun and then another 20 minute shower at 3pm followed shortly after it stopped by some sun. Another shower at 4pm cleared after just 15 minutes. By 5pm the sun was out but there was the blackest clouds of the day hanging right above and behind the village over the lower hills. Amazingly this cloud passed without any rain. As it was clearer to the west we had evening sun, with shade when passing clouds came bye and this continued right through until sunset. There was a partial starlit night early after nightfall.
Maximum was 22.9c, minimum was 15.5c.

Good morning from Sfakera, it is cloudless but hazy and the sun is up. The air has a chill but is still and it was 16.1 at 7:30am.
Yesterday the wind started, a light one initially and the clouds got darker. There was a short shower at 9:30am and other darker clouds passed bye more over our mountains. Slowly it began to clear and the sun came through. By midday it was sunny and just a few isolated clouds passing but bigger fluffy clouds over our peaks and much more over Albania. during the afternoon the wind increased to F2 and later in gusts to F3-4; the sea was full of whitetops. During this time the wind changed direction....in the morning it was from the NW and by 5pm it was from the N, NE and a bank of clouds started to approach us from Albania. They did break up over the sea and never got across far enough to hide the sun. A nice bright yellow sunset was followed by a light purple tint to the clouds to the east of the sunset. There was a mainly starlit and moonlit night.
Maximum was 22.8c and minimum was 15.5c.

Good morning from Sfakera where the sun is up but there is plenty of cloud around too. Albania is hidden behind low clouds; there is a big bank of cloud from the NW across to the SW and big fluffy clouds above us and our own peaks. In between it is blue. Clearer to the east hence the sun but it looks like we will get some shade too. It was 17c at 8:30am.
Yesterday was a lovely sunny day. There was a gentle light wind and during the afternoon some passing fluffy clouds some of which hung around over Pantocrator. A bright yellow sunset was followed by a star and moonlit night. Maximum temperature was 25.1c and minimum was 15.1c.

Good morning from Sfakera. It is cloudless and the sun is up, the birds are singing and the air is still. It was 16.2c at 7am.
Yesterday morning became one of sunny intervals as the clouds passed and disappeared; there was a light wind. My the early afternoon there were just one or two clouds left about and the wind was a F2-3 gusting. This too lessened to a breeze by 5pm and it was then cloudless and a perfect end to the day. There was a bright yellow sunset followed by a yellow and purple horizon before the moon (getting towards full) shone high in the sky and the stars soon came into sight.
Maximum temperature was 27.1c and minimum was 16.1c.

Good morning from a very mild but cloudy Sfakera. It was 20c at 7:30am but almost full high cloud cover; very thin in places. The sun is trying its best to break through. There is a gentle wind starting so hopefully the clouds will move away.
Yesterday morning a light F2-3 wind and a few big fluffy clouds from the SW that broke up. Hazy around Albania but the sun was out and it was very warm in lulls in the wind. In the afternoon the sun was even warmer but the wind also picked up to gust at F4-5 at times. There was a hazy thin cloud but the sun shone through it. In the late afternoon a bank of fluffy clouds were at sea level off northern Albania with the peaks standing clear above; this cloud slowly rose up the land so Albania was 2/3rds covered by sunset. It was not a sight I have seen very often. Sunset was a whiter yellow than of late but very bright. After it set we had a darkening blue sky to the west and then in the SE we had also a brighter blue sky; this brighter sky was caused by the almost full moon rising. Later on we had a starlit start to the night but clouds began to roll in before midnight.
Maximum was 27.1c (real feel 30 if sheltered from the wind) and the minimum was 16.1c.

Good morning from a very wet Sfakera. We had a big thunderstorm from about 3am lasting for several hours; very heavy rains, lightning and very loud thunder. We wake to find it wet everywhere with a light wind and lots of cloud but the sun is shining. It is very grey to NE and North with Albania hidden completely. Lighter to NW but the West is almost black though lighter to horizon. It is white clouds to the South and a clouds with gaps to the East. It was a mild 19.8c at 8:45am.
Yesterday we had some short early sunny intervals as the cloud thinned a little; it did however quickly thicken a bit as winds of F2-3 came along and we saw very little sun the rest of the day. In the afternoon the winds, though warm, increased and were gusting up to F6 at times. The clouds slowly got greyer and it looked like it would rain. It finally started to rain at about 8:30pm but it only lasted for about 20 minutes and wasn't much....in fact it hardly covered the ground with moisture. It remained windy and cloudy and almost black in some areas as the storm was building.
Maximum was 24.9c, minimum was 19.0c

Greeks witnessed a rare phenomenon watching the first full moon of the summer on Friday night, as the sky was illuminated and then went dark for a few minutes. The first full moon of the summer – the strawberry moon – was accompanied by an eclipse, as the moon was “entangled” in the net of the earth’s shadow for a few minutes, before taking its place high in the sky. The penumbra eclipse is a phenomenon in which the moon passes through the half-shadow of the Earth, i.e. the outer part of the shadow of our planet. People in Attica watched in awe the special phenomenon from several vantage points such as Sounio, Syntagma Square, and the Filopapou and Lycabettus hills.
