Good morning from Roda. The lovely weather continues, so Roda woke up to blue skies with a tasteful scattering of clouds spread across it. There is a bit of haze casting a slight veil over the mainland, it is denser towards our hill, probably due to the amount of smoke around. The sea between us and the mainland is a pretty pale blue shade with a deep blue streek in front of it where the deep channel is. The wind is again noticeable by its absence. The shade temperature may be in the mid-teens but it was lovely and warm for my breakfast to be enjoyed on the balcony. The forecast for Christmas day is for a sunny start to the day, lovely.
Yesterday was just an amazing December day, mostly spent outside enjoying the sunshine, either on the balcony or on my walk around the village. There were a few clouds that came and went at random, occasionally getting in the way of the sun briefly. The sea was mostly calm, but it did get a ruffled in the afternoon, bringing with it some small waves which persisted for the rest of the day. The sunset was a very pretty one with a small blaze of orange then subsiding in world of pinks and greys. What clouds that had been hanging around for the sunset disappeared during the evening to give the best display of stars for a long time with a waxing moon shing benevolently with them. It was a windless end to the day with a cool 11°C at midnight.
The temperature at 10am on Thursday 24th December was 11.5°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 15.7°C and the minimum was 10.9°C.
This day last year saw overnight rain, but all gone in the morning, leaving fresh snow on the mainland and a lovely sunny day. The maximum temperature was 14.9°C and the minimum was 12.1°C.
The reported UV for today is 2 (Range 1- 11+).

Good morning from Roda. Dave and I are sending season’s greetings from Roda. Hopefully we will see you being able to come and have your holidays out here in Roda in 2021, Covid 19 permitting. I will do a bit of a double report this morning as I failed to do my report yesterday as I spent the day with friends. My family and friends enabled me to spend a lovely day despite the huge gap that Steve has left in my life.
The temperature at 10am on Friday 25th December was 14.8°C. Christmas day dawned with a mix of clouds and blue skies giving us a mix of sunshine and cloudy spells. The wind stayed gentle and the sea calm, until the afternoon when a bit of a breeze kicked in. The view to the north looked promising whilst the view to the south and the hill less so. There was a bit of a haze which veiled the mainland. It was very mild with the afternoon temperature just shy of 18°C. I missed the sunset, and the sky during my late evening check still continued the day’s pattern of clouds and clear patches with a waxing moon and a good scattering of stars. It was 14.3°C at 10.00pm.
Christmas eve had started off well but increasing clouds led to a completely covered sky by late afternoon and so it remained. It was a mild 14.4°C at 10.30pm. The maximum temperature for the 24th December was 15.9°C and the minimum was 9.6°C.
Christmas day 2019 was a lovely day with plentiful blue skies, a rough sea and a cool breeze. Clouds almost gone by sunset. The maximum temperature was 14.7 °C and the minimum 13.7°C.
Back to today, Boxing Day, 26th December. It is a poor start to the day with wall to wall clouds and quite a stiff breeze coming from a southerly direction. The sea is slightly ruffled but has no waves coming ashore, so is silent. It feels cooler than It should do due to the lack of sun. There is quite a significant haze all but hiding the mainland from view.
The temperature at 10am on Saturday 26th December was 14.8°C.
The maximum temperature for Christmas Day was 17.5°C and the minimum was 12.1°C. Boxing day last year gave us dark grey skies with rain and strong winds, clearing up during the afternoon to give blue skies with scattered clouds. The maximum temperature was 15.2°C and the minimum was 7.6°C.
The reported UV for Today is 1 (Range 1- 11+).

Good morning from Roda. OK, it isn’t a good morning. We have had twelve hours of thunder and lightning overnight, with hail, torrential rain and strong winds. As usual, the thunder and lightning were as dramatic as it usually is here on the island. One big clap last night blew the power out for a second, but we have been lucky and our power is still on as is the internet, but some local TV stations have been hit. The winds have been reported as reaching 80km/hour in places, with trees being blown over. Any slope has been turned into cascades and mini waterfalls and rapids. There is a brown slick out to sea of the material that has been washed down the streams by Theodoros and Makris. My stepping stones to get of the apartment block are under several inches of water, and the ditches on all sides of the garden are overflowing.
Yesterday, Boxing Day, wasn’t a brilliant day, it started off cloudy and windy with steady rain by mid-day. The rain stopped by 2pm and it was brighter for a while. Then the rain was on and off during the evening, then just after 10pm there was a massive clap of thunder that almost instantaneously followed a bolt of lightning. And so, the thunder storm began, accompanied by strong winds. It was a mild day with the late evening temperature around 15°C.
The temperature at 10am on Sunday 27th December was 13.9°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 16.9°C and the minimum was 14.0°C.
This day last year wasn’t a bad day with times of sunshine with cloudy spells and great clarity of the mainland. The wind steadily increased during the day to give big waves by the evening. The maximum daytime temperature was 12.8°C (13.5°C during the night) and the minimum was 6.9°C.
The reported UV for Today is 1 (Range 1- 11+).

Good morning from Roda. It is a much improved start to the day after a cooler night with a brief late evening thunder and lightning show. I drew the curtains to decent stretches of blue, but with plenty of dark threatening ones lurking around, especially over our hill tops which were lost in the murk. Albania was almost lost across the channel which was still rough after yesterday when they banned the ferries to the mainland. There are quite large waves coming ashore. There was small earthquake yesterday, but I failed to feel it even though I was up. It was the same this morning, I failed to feel that one either.
Yesterday was just an awful day. After a night of constant thunder and lightning, which I am lucky to be able to sleep through, with very strong winds battering the apartment. Sometimes we were battered with torrential rain, sometimes it had hail added to the mix. Higher up the mountains sleet was reported. The sea looked calm but hear it was rough further down the channel, enough to force the cancelation o the ferries. There was a brief hiatus in the rain around 2.30pm, then back to solid rain until the clouds cleared enough to give a very pretty sunset. Then we had another brief thunder and lightning storm with more rain until it eased a bit in the late evening. It was dry at 10.00pm with a temperature of 11°C.
The temperature at 10am on Monday 28th December was 12.2°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 15.5°C, but daytime maximum was 14.0°C and the minimum was 13.5°C.
This day last year was mostly sunny with some strange heavy streaks of clouds, very windy with big waves. A clear starlit night. The maximum daytime temperature was 10.7°C (12.0°C during the night) and the minimum was 4.6°C.
The reported UV for Today is 2 (Range 1- 11+).

Good morning from Roda. My pre- cuppa look out at the weather caught the very tail end flush of pink on the clouds, scattered blue patches, over a steel grey sea and no mainland. There was some light drizzle making everything feel damp. It is still quite windy making the sea very ruffled, but not choppy, with waves coming ashore, and the mainland is still missing. It was a mild night and is staying like that with very little increase in temperature. The morning is trying to brighten, so when you get a brief blast of sunshine it is quite pleasant.
Yesterday was very windy with sporadic showers, during which the hill tops behind me got lost in the murk. Albania was barely visible all day. The sea was still quite rough at times with waves coming ashore. The culvert by Ammos grill room collapsed at the sea end and is taped off. There has been a collapse of the beach road a few hundred metres further on towards Acharavi. It was washed away last year, obviously the repair didn’t stand the ravages of the winter seas. The day appeared to stay dry once we got to the evening, after just a hint of a sunset, but it did stay very windy.
The temperature at 10am on Tuesday 29th December was 14.6°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 13.9°C, and the minimum was 9.6°C.
This day last year was a sunny and clear day but breezy with a starlit night. The maximum temperature was 10.2°C and the minimum was 5.9°C.
The reported UV for Today is 1 (Range 1- 11+).

Good morning from Roda. We were treated to yet another short sharp very heavy shower of rain just after 7am. As if we haven’t seen enough already, and the forecast is for way more! Once I pried myself out of my bed, I was greeted with a sky that could have lovely blue stretches and other ones of dark brooding clouds. The wind is still quite strong, from the south, so the sea is rippled but no real waves coming ashore. Albania is absent on the horizon, not even a hint of a land mass. The night was very mild with the lowest reading 14.5! The two photos show the vagaries of our weather, taken within an hour of each other.
Yesterday was a day of very mixed weather. We had spells of brightness with even quite large areas of blue skies, equally we also had times of complete cloud cover. The one consistent thing was the wind which remained strong and buffeting for the better part of the day. The day felt cold and damp despite the mild temperatures. Short sharp showers came and went during the afternoon. The season of rainbows continued with many being posted on social media. There was a partial break-up of the clouds around sunset so we got blush of peach on the clouds. The evening was cloudy and dry when I checked around 10pm but was shortly followed by a heavy shower.
The temperature at 10am on Wednesday 30th December was 14.8°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 15.9°C, and the minimum was 13.3°C.
This day last year was a sunny and clear day, still breezy with a starlit night. The maximum temperature was 10.0°C and the minimum was 6.3°C.

Good afternoon from Roda, and the last report of 2020. What a year it has been, but for me it is the year that I lost my lovely Steve, the founder of this forum. I know many people have lost loved ones, not only through the horrible Covid, but also through illnesses, like Steve’s cancer, accidents or for whatever cause. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. I am finding it hard to believe that this coming 2021 will be a year where I will have no memories of Steve being at my side. However, life does go on, so Davey H and I wish all our readers a much improved 2021 and above all a chance for people to return to Roda for their holidays. A chance of a return to some form of normality. Anyway, back to the weather report. There was some rain during the night, and a dimly remembered thunderstorm. Morning brought blue skies with mostly pretty looking clouds, but they were added to by more cloud cover, some of it looking quite threatening. It was another day for a rainbow, almost daily now. I have taken gamble and got a couple of loads of washing out. There is quite a good drying breeze and hopefully enough sun to dry it. The sea has white horses out in the channel but only a riffled surface nearer the shore with the gentle sound of waves coming ashore. Albania is just visible across the channel, more so when the sun hits the mountain sides.
The morning started with a very heavy shower; it was short but sharp. The blue skies we saw in the morning, we gradually replaced by the dark heavy looking clouds. It did stay dry but very windy for the rest if the day, some of the gusts were very strong. Albania was absent for the entire day across the ruffled sea. We had long, low waves coming ashore. It was a very mild day with the temperatures edging up to 17°C, but it felt much cooler and quite damp. The late evening check showed a still cloudy picture, with no stars even though the cloud looked a bit thin in places. We were still experiencing strong gusty winds at time.
The temperature at 10am on Thursday 31st December was 13.3°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 16.7°C, and the minimum was 14.5°C.
This day last year was a sunny and clear day, cold with frost away from the coast. The maximum temperature was 11.7°C and the minimum was 1.7°C.
The reported UV for Today is 1 (Range 1- 11+).
