Good morning from Sfakera. The sun is up, it is cloudless but there is a heavy dew as the dampness from yesterdays rains looks set to evaporate once the sun is fully up. The sea looks calmer and is deep blue, the air is currently still. It was 17.6C at 7:45am.
Yesterday the big early hours thunderstorm cleared but the skies remained cloudy and greyer to the South West; while the sun was trying to get out and giving us a short blast so it started to rain again over Karousades and it soon rolled in here to by 9:30am. This was a much lighter shower for about half an hour; then another short light shower around 10am. It then brightened a little but again was grey to the SW and Albania that had also vanished behind cloud was slowly reappearing under the cloud. AT 12:45 it started to rain again; this time it was a drizzle shower, the rain very fine indeed. It lasted until nearly 2:30pm and started again soon after continuing on and off until almost 4:40pm. This time it brightened after 5:15 and by 6:30pm we had some sun which remained with us until sunset when it was bright yellow leaving an orange colour to the sky with purple on the remaining clouds. It was still grey to the SOuth as darkness came with the still full moon and stars showing. By midnight it was almost a full starlit sky as the clouds were almost gone.
Maximum temperature was 23.9c minimum was 19.5c.
Meterologists are forecasting that Greece will be having a long hot summer...….we wait to see.

Good morning from Sfakera; the sun is up but there is almost full high thin cloud cover, slightly greyer to the North. The air is still and it was 18.2c at 7:30am.
Yesterday was a lovely day. The morning had a light wind and full on sunshine. Big fluffy clouds did build up over our hilla and also over Albania. During the early afternoon some small fluffy white clouds passed over and the wind picked up to an occasional gust of F3. Late afternoon there was some very thin high whispy cloud layers but the sunshine remained constant through until just before sunset time when it dropped behind a small bank of grey cloud to the West. After it had set that cloud was grey on top and an orangey purple underneath. Finally the skies darkened and we had a starlit early night before the clouds slowly began to move in.
Maximum temperature was 27.2c, minimum was 17.3c.

Good morning from Sfakera; the sun is up but there is plenty of very high white cloud around. Some in layers and most in small rippled fluffy banks but as I write they are dispersing. The air is still and it was 19.6c at 9am.
Yesterday we had some early sun in small patches as it tried to break through the clouds. It then became a hazy sun as it couldn't get through and then it went away altogether. It was getting darker and Albania was slowing vanishing behind a mist (or was it rain). We had a short light shower at 12:20pm; all gone by 1pm. But it stayed grey full cloud cover and for a change the air was almost still. Albania slowly started to reappear and the temperature that had been static for hours slowly started to rise. From 3:30 we had some short sunny intervals as there was less cloud to the west and after 6pm it was longer sunny periods through till 8:30 when the sun slipped behind a grey layer of cloud on the horizon. There was a brief period of yellow, orange, purple underlay to the clouds after it had gone from view. We had a few stars on view early but slowly more appeared as the clouds moved away.
Maximum was 23.9c minimum was 17.6c.

Good morning from Episkepsi...........yes I have had a morning stroll up here to visit a friend. Its a lovely day, sun up and some high white pebbled cloud. It was 20.1c at 8:00am.
Yesterday the sunny intervals became shorter but it finally cleared at 11am to sun and a few clouds passing.....cleared fully by nearly afternoon to sun with a light gusty F2 wind. The wind eased about 5pm but it stayed lovely sun until sunset. It felt very hot in the sun. Heading towards sunset the sun was very bright, so light yellow almost a silver white and hard to look at. As it finally vanished it was a bright yellow. The sunset was at 9.05pm. By 10 we had had a starlit sky.
The maximum was 28.9c (real feel 31c) and minimum was 18.0c.

Good morning from Sfakera; the sun is up. the air is fresh with a dew. There are just a few clouds over to the north east and north above Albania, otherwise it is cloudless. It was 17.9c at 7am.
Wednesday: whilst it was lovely and sunny early as I walked to Episkepsi it wasn't long before big fluffy clouds built over the hills and became grey in colour. The sun soon became intervals and then stopped. At midday there was a very heavy shower for about 40 minutes..........I later found out that in Sfakera there were a few spots only and in Roda there was nothing. It cleared a bit but clouds remained hovering over the hills but as the sun moved round so it was sunny leter in the afternoon and there was a bright yellow sunset. It was a partial early starlit night. Maximum was 27.3c minimum was 19.0c.
Yesterday there was a lot of high early cloud around, thin with grey patches and odd hint of blue; the sun was up and it was mild with a gentle breeze. The morning was mainly sunny but big fluffy white clouds were passing over our hills and they had dark underbellies.......some of the clouds shouldered the lower hills and at one time it looked as if it was raining over the eastern edge of the hills. Early afternoon a light wind F2-3 gusting started to clear the clouds and we had a lovely sunny afternoon. AFter 6:30pm there were a few shady periods due to a low bank of grey cloud to the north west and west. The sunset was yellow leaving an orangey colour to the sky. A starlit night followed.
Maximum was 26.4c, minimum was 19.5c.

Good morning from Sfakera; there is a damp feel due to a heavy dew but it is cloudless (well apart from a couple of fluffy bits over our hills) and the sun is rising. It was 19.1c at 6am.
Yesterday we had a light wind all day but also sunshine. There were fluffy clouds building over Albania and our own hills but they were white. Mid afternoon a few fluffy clouds came low and fast from the west but went on bye after blocking the sun momentarily. Again the setting sun was very bright light yellow, almost white and not easy to look at. Once set just after 9pm there was a lovely orange horizon over the sea that was still with us at 10:15pm as the stars were beginning to shine.
Maximum was 28.1c minimum was 17.9c.

Good morning from a cloudless and sunny Sfakera. There is a gentle breeze and it is also a little hazy but otherwise all looks set for a fine day. It was 20c at 8am.
Yesterday was sunny all day but this was accompanied by a wind constantly around F2-3 but gusting to F5 at times in the afternoon and even as late as 9:30pm. However in the odd lull of the wind it felt very hot indeed. During the day small whitetops appeared and they were still there after sunset. Late afternoon some layers of grey cloud appeared to the north west and west; covering the sun briefly from 8:10 for 20 minutes or so. Once below the cloud we again had a bright light yellow sunset. Once set there was just a small amount of light purple on the edges of the grey cloud. There was a starlit night.
Maximum was 28.2c and minimum was 19.1c.

Good morning from Sfakera; very mild and still with a heavy dew. There is plenty of high thin layers of cloud around but none of it is stopping the early morning sun. It is also a little bit hazy as I look towards Albania. It was 20c at 7:15am.
Yesterday was a day of wall to wall sunshine with a light wind no more than a F2 at times. Hazy with the odd cloud appear over hills and vanish just as quickly, a few more over ALbania. The sea was still a little choppy from the day before but seemed to ease a bit as the day went bye. ANother bright light yellow/white sunset but there was only a hint of orange on the horizon after it had sunk from view. A starlit night which was very mild.
Maximum temperature was 29.3c minimum was 19.0.
We are now taking care as the risk of sunburn is great. The sea is warm. There have been sightings on the beach of people who are like tourists, so rarely do they get on the beach this time of year..........Alex from the Drunken Sailor with his family making the most before hopefully tourists arrive later in the year. He is opening in the evenings and will be showing the Premier League football from Wednesday.

Good morning from Sfakera where there is a big bank of high white cloud coming in form the West, Southwest. There is other high thinner white cloud to NE but there is plenty blue sky and the sun is up. There is a breeze and it was 20.5c at 7:30.
Yesterday the clouds rolled in fast and by 8:30am the sun was blocked by the now banked light grey clouds. Odd short sunny interval as the clouds kept moving away towards the east. Though the sun was out mainly from 11am there was always high thin white cloud during the morning; Albania had a covering of very large fluffy clouds and more along the coast; we had some fluffy white clouds over our peaks as well. In the afternoon a F2 wind saw off most of the clouds and it was lovely and sunny right through till just after 8pm when a small bank of grey to the west blocked the sun for half an hour or so. We did get the sunset but while behind the cloud the sun had gone from bright light yellow to orange. Later we had a mainly starlit night.
Maximum temperature was 28.3c minimum was 19.3c.

Good morning from Sfakera. Whilst there are patches of sun about there is a lot of cloud, big white fluffy in places, high white with some light grey underneath, and some very grey and darker clouds to the west south west, south west in particular. It is a bit clearer to the NW and North. It is hard to tell what way they are moving as there is no ground breeze. It is mild at 20.5c at 7am.
Yesterday the morning clouds soon banked up to block the sun; giving us short intervals. A light wind picked up mid morning and they began to clear or thin bringing a bit more sun. Early afternoon the wind was stronger gusting F3-4 and it cleared further though there were always clouds around but it was sunnier. Very big fluffy clouds hung over Albania all day and most off day over our peaks as well. By late afternoon the wind eased but we then got layers of high very thin clouds West and these did thicken slowly and get grey. We were reduced to sunny intervals, none from 5:45 to near 6:30pm but many thereafter until we finally lost the sun around 8:20pm. As a result of the increasing cloud there were just a few early stars visible.
Maximum temperature was 25.3c minimum was 20.0c

Good morning from a sunny Sfakera; we wake to a cloudless sky but it is rather hazy. There is a hint of breeze and a hint of dew. It was 19.6C at 7am.
Yesterday was a day of fast moving clouds of all types and colours. Early they thickened and we just had some short sunny intervals as the wind began to pick up. Slowly it increased and by early afternoon was a F3-4 and the clouds began to move away but there were always large fluffy clouds or layers of higher thin cloud passing. Over Albania there was a particularly large bank of fluffy clouds, some grey from below the peaks up and long way above them; they were massive and constantly on the move. Smaller fluffy clouds were over our own peaks. The wind eased slightly mid afternoon and there was then just high thin cloud and plenty of sunshine. There was a large thin bank of slightly grey cloud to the west and as this rolled in so it hid the sun briefly then fully around 5:50pm until they had passed at 6:25pm. There after it was sunny intervals but they got longer until at 8:20 the sun again slipped behind cloud. Strangely by this time the masses of cloud over Albania had all but gone just a few thin layers remained. There were stars out once dark but not a full sky due to the passing thin clouds.
The maximum was 27.3c and the minimum was 20.0c.
Rain had been possibly forecast for us yesterday and today on sites where there are general wide area forecasts. Well elsewhere in Greece they had some torrential rains causing torrents running down the roads. In one place they had so much large hailstones that snow ploughs were out clearing the road and the ice was piled feet high at the sides of the roads!

Good morning Sfakera where it is a cloudless but very hazy start to the day with the sun up. The air is still and it was 20.5c at 8am.
Yesterday the early breeze soon brought in clouds; big and fluffy but they went mainly over our hills but blocking the sun so at best we had hazy spells. SImilar big clouds were over Albania, from half way down coast and very high above the peaks. There was also a lot of haze around. The light wind picked up into a stronger gusting wind F3-4 at times but the afternoon was full of sun. Our peaks had the fluffy clouds, some with grey bottoms, hanging around all day. AFter 7pm Albania was now fully hidden by low clouds or fog over the sea with low cloud above. A bit of passing high thin clouds blocked the sun for a while after 8pm before it returned to give us a bright light yellow sunset. The dark sky when it came after 10pm was almost full of stars.
Maximum was 28.0c and minimum was 19.3c

Good morning from Sfakera. The sun is out and the air is still and it is already 21c. There is high patchy thin white cloud around and a big high bank to the west.
Yesterday it didn't take long for clouds to form, big white and fluffy over our peaks and over Albania. During the morning this gave us some long periods of shade or just a hazy sun. A light wind picked up but was not like recent days (I was up in Episkepsi so I dont know what it was like at Roda on the coast) and in the afternoon it was very humid in the hazy sun. It remained like that most of the rest of the day but the amount of sun did increase after mid afternoon. There was a partial starlit night.
Maximum was 28.3c minimum was 19.8c.

Good morning from Sfakera where we wake to a solar eclipse.
The first full day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere will bring with it one of nature’s great sky shows: an annular solar eclipse. On Sunday (June 21), the new moon will orbit between the sun and Earth and will pass squarely across the face of the sun for viewers along a very narrow path that will run through central and northeast Africa, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, northern India, and southern China including Taiwan and partially southern Europe.
The new moon instead of completely blocking the sun, it will leave a “ring of fire” from the sun when it peaks.
During a total eclipse of the sun, the entire disk of the sun is covered by the moon. The end result is a beautiful spectacle in which a beautiful halo of pearly white light — the solar corona — suddenly flashes into view.
But an annular eclipse falls just short of providing such a celestial pageant, because the moon will be just a little too far from the Earth to completely cover the disk of the sun. The dark conical shadow of the moon (called the umbra), from where we can see a total eclipse, extends for 235,600 miles (379,100 kilometers) out into space.
On Sunday, the moon’s distance from Earth will be 237,100 miles (381,500 km) from Earth. So the moon’s dark umbral shadow will fall 1,500 miles (2,400 km) short of reaching the Earth’s surface. In such a case, an annular eclipse results.
Visibility IMPORTANT: Be sure to wear proper eye protection like eclipse glasses if you observe the eclipse in person!
This map shows the region of visibility (in percent of sun coverage) for the “ring of fire” annular solar eclipse of June 21, 2020. (Image credit: © Dominic Ford/In-The-Sky.org)
In Greece the solar eclipse will start short before 8 a.m. and it is estimated that the covering of the sun will be bigger in the south and the east part of the country (some 30% in Rhodes) and smaller in the north and the west (13% in Corfu).
In Athens the covering will reach about 11% of the sun surface.
the phenomenon starts at 7:48 a.m., will reach its peak at 8:28 and will conclude at 9:11.
The phenomenon will last 1 hour and 23 minutes.
The map didn't copy but it is just 30% here and not visible to those in the UK.
It is also rather windy; it has been gusting F3-5 all night and the sea is choppy. There is some fluffy clouds to the West and North west. Lots of clouds over the hills to the SW, S and SE and some are very grey indeed. They look to be the other side of the range and hopefully the wind will keep them there. The sun is out but is to bright to see the eclipse with the naked eye. It is very warm already.
Yesterday morning we had lots of shade as the sun passed behind the clouds; some hazy sun and a warm light wind. Full sun from midday for an hour before a bit more shade then the clouds moved as the wind picked up in strength giving us a mainly clear sky from mid afternoon through till sunset. The wind really picked up after 8pm and has been continuous since then. By the time of the bright yellow sunset there was no cloud apart from over Albania. We had an orange horizon after the sun had sunk from view lasting until gone 10pm. Thereafter it was a starlit night.
The maximum was 30.1c and the minimum was 20.2c.

Good morning from Sfakera where at last the wind has dropped though its forecast to be back later in the day. The sun is up but there is plenty high thin layers of cloud around mainly to the NE and North but also to the NW and West. The sea looking a lot calmer than yesterday though still a little choppy. It was 20.1c at 7am.
Yesterday was a day of winds constant but varying in strength of gusts from F4 to F6; even blew my lounge double glass doors onto balcony open! AFter the solar eclipse that I couldn't see without proper glasses we had a sunny but windy morning; some fluffy clouds did break from over hills and give us some shade. The cloud to the SW and over the hills increased and some had grey underbellies. In the afternoon some very low, small white fluffy clouds came from the West; noticeable as they were moving so fast in the wind, no sooner reached us and they were gone rising to go up over the hills to join the mass of clouds at the top. The wind was at its strongest around 6pm and after7pm there were clouds building but high and thin. A small band of grey cloud to the far west took the sun away for a while before it finally set a bright orange colour. We then had a partial starlit night.
The maximum was 25.7C (though it felt much warmer in the odd lull in the wind) and the minimum was 21.5c.
