Good afternoon from Roda. Me and my big mouth! The forecast was for 10 days of sunshine, so what did we get last night a tiny shower of rain, more later! It is a late report because I had to get up fairly early to get the bus to Kassiopi as we were going on the East Coast Cruise. The morning sky was streaked with thin white clouds that soon melted once the sun got up properly. Then we were left with clear blue skies, the gentlest of breezes and a flat calm sea. The photo doesn’t do the sea justice. It was taken just off the beach at Nissaki.
Yesterday was lovely for the most part, with clear blue skies and endless sunshine. The afternoon breeze can and went with hardly anyone noticing it. It stayed cloudless until late afternoon when one or two tiny clouds appeared, one even hiding the sun for a little while. However, all the mates of that cloud decided to join him and by evening we had a fair covering, giving us a little sprinkle of rain drops. There were not enough even to call it a shower. The air was quite clear giving us stunning views towards the mainland, with the mountains streaked with layers of mist, some even filling the valleys, so beautiful across the flat calm sea.The evening stayed cloudy but feeling warmer, with the temperature at 10.30pm 23°C.
The temperature at 9 am on Tuesday 8th September was 21.3°C, real feel 21°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 26.5°C real feel 28°C, the thermometer in full sun read 45°C, and the minimum was 18.1°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 29.0°C and the minimum 21°C, a little thunder and lightning storm during the small hours, cloudy with some spots of rain in morning before clearing during in the afternoon.
The reported UV for Today is 7 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around and around the summer solstice). Heavy duty sunscreen essential

Good morning from Roda. It was a slightly warmer night bringing a day that started with cloudless blue skies, practically no wind and a calm sea, but I can hear waves coming ashore (the background soothing noise to my world here). There is a dense haze almost hiding Albania across the channel. That haze has reduced the blueness of the sky to a quite pale shade. Hopefully the sun will have something to say about that!
Yesterday was just a perfect September day, wall to wall blue cloudless skies, a gentle breeze (until the late afternoon saw it stepping up a few notches to give white horses in the channel), and a sun that was hot but not too hot. By the way the sea temperature yesterday was lovely. Feeling cool when you first get in, then a nice temperature for lots of swimming. I missed the sunset as I was in the village and not near the beach, but it looked to be a standard monochromatic affair. The evening was very pleasant, feeling warm and slightly humid with a dark sky scattered with stars. It was still 24°C at 10.30pm.
The temperature at 10 am on Wednesday 9th September was 24.4°C, real feel 25°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 26.4°C real feel 28°C, and the minimum was 21.2°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 27.0°C and the minimum 21°C, very cloudy and hazy in morning with a thunder storm and rain in the afternoon, cleared by sunset.

Good morning from Roda. It was a milder night, and I was lucky enough to be awake for the dawn. I lay in bed and watched the speckled clouds turn rosy against a china blue sky, with a flush of pink just visible in the lower sky masked by the apartment next door. When I did emerge to get my cuppa the pale blue sky was dotted with tiny white clouds that were being burnt off quite quickly by the sun. We had a gentle breeze and enough haze to almost hide the mainland from view. It’s going to be lovely.
Yesterday was lovely and sunny all day, apart from some clouds that crept onto the western horizon just before sunset. It stayed hazy all day with Albania barely making much of an impression on the other side of the channel. The afternoon breeze was quite stiff and lasting into the early evening before dying away almost completely. The day felt humid due to the high humidity, feeling uncomfortably hot for some. The evening brought a mostly clear sky with lots off stars around and a warm feel to the breeze. It was a balmy 24 °C at 10.30pm.
The temperature at 10 am on Thursday 10th September was 25.0°C, real feel 26°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 27.0°C real feel 29°C, and the minimum was 20.8°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 28.0°C and the minimum 21°C, a cloudless day with cloud, some heavy, in the afternoon, enough to hide the sun. Lovely sunset. With a mackerel sky and lightning over the mainland.

Good morning from Roda. It was a mild night for the time of year with the lowest temperature hovering around 20°C. Morning brought us clear skies and a gentle breeze. The sea is calm but with waves coming ashore. The mainland across the channel is shrouded in mist but there are just glimpses of ridges and peaks. It’s going to be another lovely day.
Yesterday at the pool at Theodoros Resort.
Yesterday started off with a very pretty blue sky speckled with white clouds, but they soon melted in the heat of the sun. leaving us with cloudless skies for the rest of the day. The gentle wind of the morning increased in the afternoon to give us larger waves and small white horses out in the channel. The breeze eventually blew itself out to give a warm and humid evening, with plenty of stars in the sky and lights around the bay. It was 24°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 10 am on Friday 11th September was 23.6°C, real feel 24°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 26.4°C real feel 28°C, and the minimum was 20.8°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 28.0°C and the minimum 21°C, a cloudy start with some wind, rain started late morning got heavier in the afternoon with high winds and rough seas, before all calming down for the evening feeling cool.

Good morning from Roda. After another not too hot night, I was awake to watch the sunrise. Just as great as the sunset but in reverse! A flush of orange on the horizon, with the actual sun hidden by my neighbour’s apartment, but still a very lovely sight. When I actually stirred myself, we had cloudless blue skies, a gentle breeze and a very calm and silent sea. And so, the good weather continues, staying dry, so the forecast says, for at least the next 10 days, but with some clouds.
Yesterday was a perfect day, if slightly on the humid side if we are being pedantic. We had constant sunshine and mostly clear skies with just a few clouds stuck over the mainland. The sea was calm but had waves close to shore. The afternoon breeze was noticeable by its absence, staying gentle for the whole day reducing to practically nothing at times. The day slipped into night with a very pretty pastel start as we had one or two strategically placed clouds flushing pink against the blue sky, and then the sun sank in tis usual show of orange. The night sky was dark with plenty of stars, and the haze had reduced a bit during the day so that we had a good show of lights on both sides of the channel.
The temperature at 10 am on Saturday 12th September was 23.3°C, real feel 23°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 26.3°C real feel 28°C, and the minimum was 19.9°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 28.0°C and the minimum 21°C, a hazy day with high clouds and strong warm winds whipping the sea into large waves. Clouds clearing and wind easing by the evening.

Good afternoon from Roda. The settled spell of good weather continues, though we do have forecasts for cloud even rain in a weeks’ time. But that is so far off it may never happen. It was a mild night and brought us a morning of clear cloudless skies and a gentle breeze. The sea looks flat calm and is noiseless. We do have some haze but the mainland is quite discernible across the channel.
Yesterday was yet another lovely day, hot but without that fierce heat of July and August. Though I am still seeing lots of burnt pink skin as people are being caught out by the strength of the sun. The afternoon breeze stirred itself for a while before giving up and fading to almost nothing. There was a lovely standard sunset, monochromatic because of the complete absence of clouds. The evening felt warm due to the humidity, with a sky full of stars and a channel decorated with lights on both sides. It was still 22°C at midnight.
The temperature at 10 am on Sunday 13th September was 22.6°C, real feel 23°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 27.2°C real feel 29°C, and the minimum was 19.6°C. Sorry I have no further reports for last year until 23rd October.

Good afternoon from Roda. There is a bit of a change in the weather, as we have scattered clouds gathering. However, the morning started off as usual after a cool dawn. We had cloudless skies, a gentle breeze a calm sea with some waves coming ashore. There was quite a haze attempting to hide the mainland from view. It was still warm to sit out for coffee, but autumn isn’t far away as I watched the leaves falling from the trees. Every time I think I have seen the last of the summer visitor birds another lot turn up for a morning bath in Semeli’s pool.
Yesterday was just perfect again. Cloudless skies for the most part, a nice heat but not too hot, a gentle breeze and a warm and calm sea with only waves breaking as the reach the shore. The afternoon breeze barely stirred itself and we drifted towards sunset with just gentle ones stirring the palms. Sunset was a gorgeous event with the horizon flushing a shade that was a mix of pinks, purples and oranges. With the reflection in the sea mostly golden. A lot of people stood and took photos of it. The evening sky was dark with plenty of stars and lights on this side of the channel but not that many on the other side. It was 22°C at 11.30 pm.
The temperature at 10 am on Monday 14th September was 24.1°C, real feel 25°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 26.4°C real feel 28°C, and the minimum was 19.4°C. Sorry I have no further reports for last year until 23rd October.

Good afternoon from Roda. It was a slightly cool night, but waking up to cloudless blue skies, with a gentle wind and a calm sea with soft waves coming ashore. Although the humidity was down, so feeling less humid, the mainland was still pretty well veiled by a haze. The wind does feel particularly warm, so feeling very hot in full sun.
Yesterday was still a very pleasant and hot day despite increasing light clouds which hid the sun from time to time, especially in the afternoon. They had mostly dispersed by the time for the sunset, which was a standard lovely event. It led onto a clear dark starlit night feeling quite balmy with the late evening temperature 23°C.
The temperature at 10 am on Tuesday 15th September was 25.8°C, real feel 27°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 29.2°C real feel 31°C (in full sun it was closer to 42°C), and the minimum was 19.4°C. Sorry I have no further reports for last year until 23rd October. Good morning from Roda. It was a cooler night I felt with the temperature dropping to 19°C. I know, I’m acclimatised to the heat here. Dawn was lovely as it was enhanced by some streaky clouds which had disappeared by the time I had finished my cup of tea. Then, we had cloudless skies and a gentle breeze. The sea looked ruffled but calm and I failed to hear any waves coming ashore, and Albania had emerged a bit from the haze to show that she was still there across the channel. Cloudy days are on the forecast so we must enjoy the sun while we have it.
Yesterday stayed hot and lovely all day. There was a breeze that did increase a little to give white horses out in the channel for a while. Then by the end of the afternoon everything has calmed down and the daytime haze had retreated somewhat. We had the standard monochromatic sunset, bringing us a beautiful clear night sky. There were so many stars I was cricking my neck just looking at them. Because the haze had retreated, we could also see so many village lights across the sea on the mainland. It was a beautiful balmy night, perfect for dining under that amazing sky, with the temperature around 23°C.
The temperature at 10 am on Wednesday 16th September was 23.2°C, real feel 23°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 27.6°C real feel 29°C, and the minimum was 19.4°C. Sorry I have no further reports for last year until 23rd October.

Good morning from Sfakera; Jan is off back to the UK until late October and I will cover the reports while she is away. We wake to a full gray sky and very light shower. The air is damp after the rains throughout the night. There is just a very gentle breeze. It is still warm enough to wear just a vest or t-shirt and shorts.
Wednesday was another day similar to the previous few with plenty of haze around and later some high thin cloud that cleared when a light wind picked up. A lovely sunny afternoon with the wind easing to a breeze and it was hot sat in the sun. There was a fine starlit night with a crescent moon. Minimum was 20.7c and maximum was 33.1c.
Yesterday we woke to warning of bad weather as follows....
One of the strongest Mediterranean tropical-like cyclones (medicane) on record has started to hit the Ionian Sea.
Severe Weather warns of an “extremely dangerous” cyclone tonight through Friday morning, with severe impact for western Greece.
Peak gusts could exceed 200 km/h, and huge amounts of rainfall are expected to lead to dangerous flash floods. Along with severe destructive winds, it is expected to bring torrential and excessive rainfall, resulting in dangerous flash floods.
The minimum central pressure of the medicane, officially named Ianos by the National Observatory of Athens, is expected to drop to near 980 mbar, with sustained winds reaching hurricane-force Category 1 strength.
Up to around 400 mm of rainfall is likely in the coming 36 hours, and tornadoes are expected to form along the Ionian coast starting from tonight.
Kathimerini newspaper reports that medicane has begun to make its presence felt on Thursday evening with strong winds blowing. It is expected to hit a large part of the country in the next 48 hours. up in the afternoon.
The day started with plenty of high clouds but the sun was up and we had long sunny intervals. Mid afternoon the clouds started to thicken and darken and the beach umbrellas started to be folded up and the larger ones taken down completely and stored away. We did get a shower in the early evening and it continued throughout the night but we have not as far had strong winds nor torrential rains so it seems we missed the worst of what was forecast. The minimum was 21.6c and the maximum was 30.1c.

Good morning from Sfakera where it was a damp start after light showers in the early hours. Almost full cloud but whiter in shade and brighter to the east. It was nearly 9:30 before we got our first glimpse of the sun.
Yesterday was a gray day but we were lucky as the medicane passed south of Lefkada causing floods, power cuts and fallen trees on Ithica, Keflonia and Zakinthois and big floods overnight on the mainland taking out bridges, some buildings, roads with serious flooding to houses, shopping areas and fields. We had a muggy cloudy day a light shower at 8am and further light mini showers (more spotty than full on) during the afternoon. It was a damp cool evening with again some mini showers and started to rain lightly just after 11:30pm continuing into the early hours.
The maximum temperature was just 25.3c the minimum was 22.1c.

Good evening from Sfakera; apologies for the delay but I was at Golden Sands and they have no internet access probably due to the new blocks at Robella. We woke to day to a hazy start, still with some high thin patchy white cloud to the NE and East. The sun rose at 8:15 and the early morning was nice.
Yesterday the early morning sun at 9:30am slowly cleared and we had a nice sunny morning with a light breeze. The afternoon was very pleasant but clouds were building in the west so the sun and light wind stopped about 6pm. The sun did reappear before 7:30pm as a bright orange ball for a wonderful sunset. A starlit night followed. The minimum was 21.3c and the maximum was 30.3 c.

Good morning from a hazy Sfakera. Albania again hardly visable due to a hazy sea mist. The air is still and it is cloudless with the sun rising for what appears to be another lovely day.
Yesterday the clouds cleared as the sun rose and it was a lovely sunny morning. A light wind came and with it a build up of clouds over our hill some gray and shouldering the Pantocrator peaks. It was also cloudy to the west and south west giving us a few sunless intervals. We still had a nice orange sunset followed by a mainly starlit sky.
The minimum was 20.4c and the maximum was 29.8c.

Good morning from Sfakera. We had another heavy overnight dew but it is still and the sun is up. There is a large bank of cloud to the NE and North so Albania is hardly visible; more cloud to the distant West. We are told to expect unsettled weather for the rest of the week.
Yesterday morning it was lovely and sunny with a gentle breeze. Big fluffy clouds built up in West and South West and over our peaks. In the afternoon there was alight wind and the clouds built up further eventually casing sunless intervals and total shade by 6pm. There was a partial starlit night as the clouds slowly cleared away.
The minimum temperature was 19.9c and the maximum was 27.8c.

Good morning from Sfakera where it is a damp start after an early morning thunderstorm. Whilst the thunder was not too loud and lasted for hours the rain was heavy but didn't last for more than an hour. At dawn we have the odd hint of blue the odd star in view but it is mainly gray.
DUe to rains, power cuts and lack of internet I was unable to get online yesterday so I catch up with Tuesday first.
Tuesday a light wind came early and pushed the clouds back giving us a nice sunny morning. My friends having returned to the UK I was able to do two loads of laundry and get them dry. It was muggy and the clouds in the west and south west slowly rolled in during the mid afternoon leaving us in the shade though the sun reappeared for a while after 7pm until it set. The was a partial starlit night early before the clouds covered and rumbles of thunder started after 10pm, distant and like a roll of tanks passing bye.
The minimum was 21.8 and the maximum was 29.4c.
Yesterday the storm arrived in the early hours and the thunder slowly got louder, lightning too and then the rains; steady at first and then heavier. These rains had come from the NE (not so usual here) and soaked my balcony including my cushions, throws and dog covers. It eased around 7am though it continued to drizzle and a gusting wind picked up. More thunder continued and the rains got heavier; due to the circling weather front these came from the SW and heavy rains lasted until about 9:30 but it remained windy and very gray all around. After 11am it wind eased off and it became a little brighter. During the early afternoon we had 3 powercuts, the first 2 were short but the 3rd lasted nearly 75 minutes. There was the odd hint of sun for a short while that quickly vanished as thunder again was heard; rains again, light at first after 4:20pm and when the lightning appeared the rains got heavier. They didn't last for too long before more gusting winds cleared them away and it again got brighter and we had a fair bit of sun after 7pm until it set. There were a few early stars before it began to cloud over again.
The minimum was 19.9c and the maximum was just 24.2c.
