How is the work progressing. Some members of another forum beg to differ, and seeing is believing etc etc. Can we have some progress pictures.

I'm sure once Steve is settled back in, he'll get photos for us! Won't you, Steve??? No need to let him settle in Jacks! We were both pleased to get out and into the village today, and although we didn't take the camera (deliberately, can anyone believe?), I did of course have my phone, so Chris, as the photos show, work has definitely begun. Although work to properties has been progressing for a little while now, the actual work on the road started on Tuesday - here's the proof, Chris!

OMG! How different does it all look? Sorry, Julie. Didn't think, when anyone arrives in Roda, they don't have to take time to settle, it happens immediately!

You shouldn't worry too much what is said on other forums - the one i looked at couldn't even get the name of Mistral correct ! Guess they wouldn't be too good on the riddles. pete.

I don't understand why some of the comments made by people on this site are so dismissive of other sites. Just because someone gets a name wrong or puts forward an opinion that does not please everyone who subscibes regularly to Official roda does not mean that they should be criticised. The site in question is a vast source of information not only on Roda but the Island as a whole. If it is deemed to be so inferior why does Steve log on and contribute so often to the topics being discussed. As I have said before in a previous post (and been severely criticised for to the extent that Steve had to remove the comments) the purpose of a forum is for people to post their opinions. Just because some of the comments made do not paint Roda in a perfect light does not necessarily make them wrong. This site does a fantastic job in promoting the village but it has to be accepted that it is not the only source of information available.

Hi Steve - I have to agree with much of what you say and yes, I do log on to other sites to bring to them accurate & timely information for their members. On larger sites that draw their contributors from a wider geographical area, there is bound to be some degree of inaccuracy and it is useful for me, as one who stays most of the year on Roda, to be able to clarify things as necessary. The comment on the other site was started by someone from outside of the village, and then added to by people who rarely visit Roda. The comments made by an administrator on the other site, actually referred to the situation in his own village (not Roda) and was misleading. The facts are that this project was started exactly on time, is projected to take two months and is being funded by the Prefecture of Corfu. The drainage system is altogether different, is funded from another source and cannot, practically, be completed in a single winter. Work in Acharavi has started again and, when both projects are completed, there will be a need to resurface the whole of the road system. When funds are available, I am sure that this will be done. We welcome all opinions that take consideration of posting guidelines and we welcome accurate & timely information. It is these elements of our forum that has made it so successful.

Hi smg, I was not dismissing the other site - in fact I think it is one of the most informative & probably one of the best on the internet, I myself have gleaned lots of useful information from it. What I was getting at was the view of someone who is not based in Roda and doesn't even know the name of the bar where the road widening is starting. With Greece in general and Corfu in particular suffering from a drop in tourists the last thing that is needed is negative publicity, especially when it is not correct. We all know there isn't a bottomless pit of money to complete these jobs overnight, the footpaths & street lighting in Acharavi took several years to complete, I think we can all best serve the place we love by looking at a half full glass rather than a half empty one. pete.

I would just like to add to the answers to Steve's post. I too did not make any intention of bringing down another forum I merely picked up the point where it was said that work had not commenced in Roda, because of reasons I do not wish to enter into, I notified this forum so that and update, clarification could be added to that forum.
All forums relating to Corfu whether they be multi Greek Resorts, multi Corfu Resorts, or an individual resort, all give valuable information that helps each other. I belong more to a multi resort forum, but will nd have referred many to the Roda forum for a more in depth informtative response to their questions.
What I will say is this, this is a prime example of when because one person does not get the facts right, the context of the matter gets lost. Somethng we should all remember.
All forums, keep up the good work.

Taking one of Pete's points I think that, on balance, I would prefer to wait a little longer for the funds to resurface the road than for the council to borrow the money and get into more debt. The current financial situation in the UK would seem to bear this out. Better a hole in the road than the road to ruin!

One way for the monies to be raised would be for all the illegal foreign cars--UK&others to re-register their cars&camper vans in Corfu. They cannot be paying road tax & more than likely not insured.Correct me if i am wrong but i thought the max time was 6months before having to re-register.I lived on Corfu for 20 years and recently returned for a holiday & could'nt belive the amount of foreign cars&camper vans. After speaking with some Greek friends he said the majority have been here years!!!!Come on contribute to the economy. Also sorry the roads are a disgrace and Roda has gone back in time.
