I have to admit that we are really looking forward to our holiday in Roda this year as the atmosphere will be less heavily polluted if only by one fewer smoker being present.

got to be honest . even as an x smoker i used to get annoyed when someone lit up on the next table while i was still eating . i myself would walk outside before i lit up. to cancel a holiday over a smoking ban [inside] seems a bit extreme

I agree with both Kernowan&Sthelen, there is nothing worse than someone on the next table in a restaurant lighting up whilst you are trying to enjoy your meal, some people are so ignorant not giving a thought to other diners. If they are 'Dying' for a ciggy surely it is not a hardship to go outside, after all they go for 4 hrs on an aircraft to get to Corfu.

I too am a smoker but its no hardship to me to go outside for a ciggy,i don't even smoke in my own living room and i certainly won't be cancelling my holiday to roda because of an inside smoking ban.Anyway the weather is so good in june that we'll be sitting outside anyway, and like dave said if you can go without one to get to roda then how long will it take to walk outside.
Gail.

I think the next discussion Gail, is what actually constitutes outside and what is inside. No doubt, if there is a roof, then it is inside - unless the roof can be rolled back ... There might be some premises where you can be outside, when, technically, you are inside. A lot might also depend on whether the licence includes the full area of the premises, or whether a little bit of frontage has been 'borrowed' from the council when they weren't looking! This is far from being a black & white situation. Steve

I can remember something Steve about space set aside for the use of smoking, but nothing as come up in recent communiques either in the media, or from other sources.
I think the earlier move, and the changes to the ruling are for the benefits of tourism. Like myself, most of us would not give a d**n as to what way they went as long as we can enjoy our holiday. I also pointed out, as did most people that if I wanted to smoke when I did, I would go out side, because it was etiequette, and pleasant anyway, unlike the UK.
If like me you read the Greek/English newspapers daily online, and for real, you would read more into what the Greek Government and their Ministers, including Tourism are doing. They are saying it is time for change, if Greece needs to hold on to its tourism, then it must subject itself to changes. Now whether those running any business within the tourism industry abides by these rules, that is up to them. However, there is clear legislation on what is wanted.
You know yourself that tourism within Greece, in particular the islands such as Corfu is down. We have all done our research and agree on this. If it means that the Ministers within Tourism insist on this ruling, then it will be implemented regardless if the odd Spiros here or there say up yours. He maybe the one without the licence or EOT next year.
Of course, you and I, and many others would want nothing more for Corfu to remain as it was 20, 30 or more years ago, but to maintain that mainstay in such business as tourism in the 21st century, sadly, there has to be changes.
I have heard today that even the small space set aside at the airport has now been removed, and if you want to smoke, then you must go outside of the airport.
Yeiamas, Chris

i was being lighthearted about cancelling my flight in my original post and all good things coming to an end meant my holiday will not be the same after 20 odd years i would never smoke where people are eating despite what people are implying and i am also not against smoking restrictions just the way they are implemented and i am also hopeful that places will be busier this season with the new law in place as they should be because of the climate i will just have to stock up on the mozzie repellant

I think Bull has been harshly dealt with here. Everyone should be allowed an opinion although I think Kernowman has perhaps overstepped the mark.
