gradually easing off until we have a calm looking channel but can hear waves coming ashore. It was a very mild night with the temperature after midnight reaching almost 16°C. We awoke to blue skies with faint traces of clouds, and stunning snow-topped mountains across the channel. We sat and ate breakfast on the south balcony and were too warm in our dressing downs despite the shade temperature being only 12°C it was at least 10V higher in the sun. Airing the duvets and mattress topper in the sun whilst the bedding washes. In the winter it is a constant battle with the damp, so windows and doors open to try and keep everything well aired. Think I am being to sound like my Gran! There is just the hint of a breeze to stir the clothes.
Yesterday started off very wet with heavy rain and a rough sea. As the wind moved round from southerly to more northerly it eased, but once settled in its new position it seriously increased and blew all the clouds to the south and we ended up with a clear and sunny end to the day. However, those strong winds had seriously whipped up the seas which became wild with big waves as far as the eye could see. The beach road from Nino’s to The Boathouse was awash in places and covered with stones and debris making walking difficult at times. The biggest waves were crashing over and we had to dodge the spray. The sky was clear with a slightly lop-sided almost full moon gracing it, and the moonlight dancing on those wild seas as we looked over the bay towards Acharavi and Almyros. The temperature was gradually rising through the evening to give us a mild 15°C at bedtime, though with northerlies it should have been cooling, especially with the snow on those Albanian mountains.
The temperature at 10.00am on Sunday 15th. December was 11.7°C.

Good morning from Roda. It is another lovely morning here, but we have more clouds around than yesterday. The sea is beautiful and blue, calm and silent in front of a slightly hazy Albania. Some of the snow seems to have disappeared from the lower peaks. We enjoyed breakfast again on the balcony and my legs were starting to burn! The first load of washing is out and the second just about finished, and it will get put out before we go to Acharavi to pay bills and have our essential coffee.
Yesterday was lovely all day, from the start the skies were clear of all but the merest trace of thin clouds, there was the gentlest of breezes and a calming sea. The sun, after turning the world all shades of pinks and lilacs, set in ablaze of glory in a shade that shaded from deepest blue to flame orange. The night was clear with every village in Albania present and correct, to join the lights around our bay and the panoply of stars in the sky. Orion was there, noticed for the first time this winter. It was nippy though. During the day it had been too warm for even a cardigan, the evening needed a thick padded winter coat. It was a cool 10°C at 11 pm.

Good morning from Roda. Another lovely day was there to greet us. Mostly clear skies with some clouds dotted around, a bit denser to the south. Albania still has very white snow caps on some of the peaks across the blue, calm and silent sea. Again, breakfast on the balcony, a bit too warm in the sun for my cardigan. If we ate it on the north balcony, we would need dour coats! The forecast for Christmas day and Christmas Eve is for sunshine, so Christmas dinner will be outside in the sun. Today, there is almost no breeze and I have run out of washing to do, so I am going to sit in the sun and catch up on my sewing.
Yesterday was lovely all day. Sunshine, only a few thin clouds and no breeze. The sea was calm and blue with Albania nice and clear across the channel. We might have felt inclined to go for a swim, but the beach front here at Roda is knee deep in sea grass, so it would be the same towards Acharavi and Almyros. So, we just loitered over coffees and crosswords after paying our bills. The sunset started off beautiful, with that golden light you get making everything stand out, then the gradual transition through the pinks and lilacs until the setting sun devours the whole sky with dense colours of deepest blue to bright orange, the whole reflected in the calm seas. Night saw a profusion of stars joining all the ones around us in Roda. A slightly less cold night as we strolled back from the village with a 12°C at 10 pm.

Good morning from Roda. We have another lovely morning here. There are quite a few light clouds around, but also, we have lots of sunshine. We have bottling homemade baked beans ready for our breakfasts, working in a kitchen warm from the sun. When we first stuck our heads outside there was just a light breeze, that has strengthened sending doors slamming. There is some haze, blurring Albania across a sea that is more slate coloured than blue. It was very pleasant having breakfast on the balcony, with the temperature in the sun just about 25°C, whilst the back balcony was cool at 17°C. The cloud is due to increase and with it the wind and some overnight rain.
Yesterday saw us having a lovely sunny morning with plenty of sunshine with only a few clouds getting in the way of the sun from time to time. The afternoon saw an increasing amount of clouds until there were very few blue patches left. The dying sun slanting under the clouds cast amazing bright pools of light across the mountain sides on both sides of the channel, with deep shadows in the valleys. We just stood and watched. The clouds started clearing during the evening leaving clear skies with plenty of stars. Despite the clear skies it was quite a mild night, with a temperature of 14°C by the end of the evening.

Good afternoon from Roda. It has just been one of those days when one thing leads to another and it gets late without you knowing it. It’s just been a day for pottering and getting a few jobs that have been hanging around to be done. So, we did our recycling this morning, and baked my Christmas cake this afternoon, fitting in shopping and coffee as well. Back to the weather. Dawn was lovely this morning with the sky flushed with blues and pinks, but he clouds were winning by the time we got up. There was quite a haze towards the mainland over the channel. The sea looked ruffled but calm with waves that could be heard coming ashore. It was quite breezy so it was a very quick breakfast on the balcony with tea being drunk indoors. It has been warmer this year than last with nice daytime temperatures and night time still in double digits.
Yesterday started off as a day of sunshine with some clouds and ended up with more clouds than sunshine. A breeze got up and then died away during the afternoon, and the sea remained very calm all day. The sunset was a very muted affair with just a small show of gold followed by a flush of pink. The evening saw the clouds melt away and we had a sky full of stars. We ate at the kafeneon in Sfakera with friends and driving back from the village you could clearly so many more villages on the mainland. It was a chilly 12°C when we got in.

Good morning from Roda. It was a rather wet and wild night with winds, lots of rain (judging by the standing water in the garden) and lightning. The rain started to diminish quite quickly and had stopped by around 9 am. There ware even some patches of blue overhead and the sun attempting to be seen. The mainland and our mountains are so lost in deep haze or mist that only mere outlines at best can be seen. The sea is ruffled and I can hear waves coming ashore. The morning continues to improve and is getting lighter as the sun’s rays penetrate the clouds more. It was a mild night with the temperature in the small hours around 17°C, only falling to 15°C at dawn.
Yesterday started off promising with good sunny spells, but the clouds gathered for an onslaught and by the end of the afternoon they had won. The breezes loitered all day, never really going away, and were quite strong by nightfall. The sea was organising itself into those long long low waves that we get in St George’s bay. The sunset was seen as nothing more than a faint pink flush on the bottoms of a few of the clouds. Evening, though saw the clouds mostly melt away to give us lots of stars also the haze went and the mainland lights shone out. The wind was very warm with the temperature reaching around 18°C before mid-night!

Good morning from Roda. It is very windy here today and due to get windier over this weekend. We have full cloud cover now but earlier there were transient patches of blue and a sun trying very hard to be seen, but it didn’t last long. It is however, quite mild and it isn’t raining at the moment. The Albanian mainland is lost across the channel, which is grey but quite calm and silent, and our mountains are fading into the same haze. It won’t be very pleasant in the higher villages.
Yesterday started off very wet and windy easing off around breakfast time, and we even saw some blue patches appearing overhead throughout the day. The sun though failed to find these breaks and remained hidden all day. There were showers, some quite heavy throughout the rest of the day, but the wind died away to almost nothing. It was, therefore, a surprise to read that the seas were so rough between Corfu and Igoumenitsa that the open sided ferries had been cancelled. It stayed mild all day with the late evening temperature 15°C, but it felt cool and chilly all day.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Saturday 21st December was 16.4°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 17.6°C and the minimum was 15.4°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2018 was 14.2°C and the minimum 10.1°C. A wet and rainy start to the day before improving to give some sunny spells. A great sunset and a clear evening.

Good morning from Roda. It is a bit wild here to say the least, not at all a nice day. We have very southerly high winds rattling and moaning around the apartment, which had persisted during the night. There is a heavy, low, deep grey cloud cover that is hiding all but the lowest flanks of our mountains, and hiding the mainland completely from view. The sea is calm though due to the winds being southerlies. It was raining heavily when we got up, it died away but we have had showers, one or two very heavy since though. The only positive thing is that the temperatures are still good, with the reading at 17°C since we got up. The whole of the west side of Greece and the Ionian islands have had flood and wind warnings issued for them for today and the next couple of days.
Yesterday saw a very cloudy day with only a hint of blues patches. The sun gave up easily, so we had no real glimpses of it. The wind steadily increased during the day with spits and spots of rain during the day. The rain had been saving itself for the evening when it turned a lot heavier and more constant. It was a mild 16°C late into the evening, but feeling cool because of the high humidity.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Sunday 22nd. December was 17.1°C.

Good morning from Roda. It was another mild night, windy, but the lightning seemed to have given up. We had a very heavy rain shower just before dawn. We had good patches of blue skies with plenty of cloud around though. Plenty of thick white lumpy ones over the mainland, but streakier and thinner over us. There were some good spells of sunshine, enough to tempt us out onto the balcony for our breakfast. We may have seen the last of the rain for a while but we are due some very windy conditions over the next day or so. It is still mild but feeling a bit warmer as the humidity has fallen.
Yesterday was a day of heavy squally periods of rain, barely easing at all throughout the day. At one point the rain and murk were so dense we couldn’t see the sea or even our mountains. It almost seemed miraculous when, in the late afternoon, the light turned golden and the sun appeared very low in the sky casting this yellow light over the dripping trees. We just stopped to admire. The haze eased in the early evening to such an extent that we could see the village lights on the mainland and those of a passing ferry on the other side of the channel. Then it decided to rain and the visibility was lost. Later on in the evening saw lots of lightning over the mainland, but too far away to hear the thunder. It stayed mild with the temperature at 11 pm 14°C.

Good morning from Roda. It was a very wild night with the thunder and lightning dying away but we still were left with the severe winds and wild raging seas pounding the shores. Sometime during the night, the skies cleared to give us a morning of sunshine and pretty clouds and lots of fresh snow on the peaks on the mainland. There is still quite a bit of cloud gathered over those peaks. The wind, has lessened a bit but it is still strong and the waves are still wild and very noisy. Breakfasted on the balcony after getting my washing out on the line. Should dry in no time what with that wind and some sun. Taken this morning from our balcony
Yesterday after the good start with some clouds and plenty of sunshine quickly went pear shaped. The cloud steadily increased as did the wind, and then the heavens opened and we had a deluge of rain by the afternoon. It did ease up a bit and we even got a hint of a sunset to the west, but the wind by then was wild. The waves were pounding on the shore and it was rough all the way across the channel. On our way into the village in the early evening we could see the lights on the mainland, but we could also see rain further up the channel. By the time we were walking back the mainland was lost and we were picking our way through all the debris thrown on the beach road by the Coral and dodging the spray from the waves. We had no sooner got in than the heavens opened and the apartment was lashed with rain and wind. Then to cap things off we had a thunder and lightning storm. It was a cold 12°C by the end of the evening, the coldest of the day.

Merry Christmas from Steve, me and Dave. We hope you have a lovely day wherever you are. It is bright and sunny here today with plenty of blue sky and mostly white harmless clouds. There are a few that look more threatening but they are mostly being blown away in the fresh wind. There is very low humidity so everything is bright and clear, including the mainland with its snow-capped peaks. The sea is still quite rough with noisy waves but not as wild as the last couple of days where seagrass, stones and general detritus was being spread across the beach road. The photo was taken from our balcony this morning.
Yesterday was a lovely sunny day, very warm in the sun if you were protected from the cold fierce wind. What few clouds there were were scattered by nightfall. The sea raged all day sending fresh stones etc across the beach road. We were dodging the spray from the waves as we walked too and from the village. The sunset passed us by, but the night sky was so clear that stars shone so brightly. All the lights from the mainland didn’t want to be left out. Would have been lovely to linger but the wind was too cold.

Good afternoon from Roda. It was not a great start to the day. We awoke with grey leaden skies, pounding surf and the wind whistling around the building. A proposed walk into Acharavi with friends was cancelled. The gods smiled and said you two need the walk, so the heavens started to clear, the wind eased and the sea started to die down a little. Breakfast was eaten on the balcony in hot sunshine, so the walk was back on! OK, so it was hot on the south balcony but the temperature on the opposite side of the house was another story at around 13°C.
Yesterday was a gorgeous day to be celebrating Christmas day. We had un-broken sunshine with blue skies and any lingering clouds disappearing before sunset. The sunset was a symphony as the lilacs turned to the golds as the sun disappeared behind the headland. The air was so clear that the mainland looked so close that you could see the buildings in the towns and villages. The sea was calming all the while but still sending waves inland to hit the shore. The moon is still absent during our walks, but this just allowed the stars to shine even brighter. It was a very slightly warmer night with the end of the evening temperature 13°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. This morning we were supposed to have blue skies and some cloud, what we got was a lot of grey cloud and a few patches of blue and the sun making a feeble attempt at breaking through. The wind, thankfully had dropped and the sea, though still with a lot of waves, was much quieter. The slanting morning light lit up the flanks of Albania, bringing out all the detail. The mainland had never seemed so close. The mild start to the night had ended up quite chilly though with no prospect of much of an improvement.
Yesterday stayed a lovely day, with lots of blue skies and decorative clouds scattered around. It was very windy though which did take the edge off, but if you found a sheltered sunny spot it felt very warm. The strength of the wind came and went a bit with the sea reacting in turn. But generally the sea remained rough with big waves all day. The sunset was glorious, covering most of the sky, starting with the pinks and ending up burnt orange. The night sky was very clear with plenty of stars and so many lights from the mainland villages. It was chilly in the wind but a respectable 14°C at the end of the evening.

Good morning from Roda. Today we have got the day we were forecast to have. We had a very cold start to the day (4.6°C when we got up), but not cold enough for frost down here at sea level. We have clear, practically, cloudless skies and a bit of a chilly breeze. We do have some haze despite the low humidity, but the mainland is fairly clear with the white snow on the peaks gleaming in the sun. The sea is very blue with white topped waves coming ashore. Despite the cold in the shade it was more than warm enough to enjoy breakfast on the balcony, only a thin jumper required. I am just waiting for the washer to finish to get the washing out on the line before we go shopping and for a coffee.
Yesterday was a bit of a mixed bag, we certainly didn’t get the amount of sunshine that was promised with the morning being very cloudy. We decided to walk into Acharavi as it was dry and the wind not too strong, hoping for some sun on the way. The sea was throwing waves full of seagrass onto the shore line, plus lots of wooden debris washed down in the streams that are full at the moment. We did end up completely losing the sun for a while, before the tables turned and the sky started clearing. However, it was clearing over us, but the mainland was getting the sunshine! However, but sunset the sky was quite clear and we had a lovely one. The wind had got stronger and cleared the sky, but it had also whipped up the waves again. Almost having to dodge the spray again on our walk into the village. The night sky was lit so many stars, and the lights from the mainland villages joined in the spectacle. It wasn’t too bad a temperature by the end of the evening being 12°C.
The temperature at 10.00am on Saturday 28th. December was 8.2°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 13.5°C but only 12.8°C during the day, and the minimum was 6.9°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. We awoke to gloriously clear skies with stunning views of the mainland. The sea still had big waves coming ashore and was quite noisy, but it was a beautiful shade of blue green shading to indigo in front of the mainland. The white tipped waves and mountain tops just added to the overall effect. The wind however was still quite strong making an already cold temperature feel even colder. On our sheltered south facing balcony we did manage to enjoy our breakfast just needing a cardigan to feel quite comfortable. Again, there must have been a 10°C between the shady front and the sunny back balconies.
Yesterday stayed clear and exceptionally windy all day. That wind never really eased at all and got exceptionally strong by the mid-afternoon, such that I had to resort to hat and gloves on our evening walk into the village. The sea was whipped up into constant creamy topped waves, with white horses as far as the eye could see across the channel. The sunset was a monochromatic orange affair, stunning with the burnt orange against a deep blue sky. The evening saw the start of a new moon with barely a bright yellow crescent seen in a sea of so many stars. I am certain that the village lights across on the mainland are multiplying as there seemed to be more than usual. That strong wind made it feel very cold though. The at 10.00am on Sunday 29th. December was 7.8°C.
