Good morning from Roda for the first time in 2019. All of us here wish all you Kali Chronia, Kalo Mena, and hope that you have health and happiness for the coming year. And, of course, we very much hope to see you all out here in Roda. We had quite a windy night with the sea starting to rage and we awoke to a mixed sky. To the north it was blue skies with some clouds dotted around, but to the south it was almost the opposite. The sea is a deep blue with wild horse as far as the horizon and creamy topped waves racing ashore. Albania is shaded in parts and sunlit in others with some sun bouncing off the top snow fields. As I write the clouds are dispersing a bit more, but it is still very blustery so will be bracing on the sea front.
Yesterday, after an attempt by the sun to break through the clouds won hands down giving us a cool and overcast day. The only saving grace was that there was no wind and the sea was calm. We only got a scant hint of a sunset as some clouds had a touch of peach on them. And so we proceeded into a cloudy but clear evening with the temperatures not dropping much, it still being 9°C close to midnight. It being New Year's eve there were more lights than usual round the bay joined by a laser show from somewhere in Acharavi.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Tuesday 1st. January 2019 was 10.7°C, real feel 11°C, and the humidity 49% giving a dew point of 0°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 13.4°C and the minimum 4.8°C. A sunny start to the day turning cloudy with drizzle in the evening.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 10.6°C (real feel 8°C), and the minimum was 4.8°C , a dew point of 3°C. The maximum humidity was 75% and the minimum 53%.
The reported UV for today is low at 2 ( Range 1- 11+).
UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice). The maximum temperature recorded by me in Roda in 2018 was 33.0°C real feel 35°C, on 8th June. The maximum recorded temperature ever in Corfu was 42.8°C The lowest recorded temperature was -8.8°C

Good morning from Roda. We had a heavy frost last night and awoke to a dawn temperature of 0.7°C! However we did had wall to wall sunshine with only one or two clouds lurking at the edges, there is not much in the way of a breeze, the sea is calm with only gentle waves hitting the shore. We are rarely without the sound of the sea. The frost soon melted in the warm sun only remaining in the deep shadows. There is amazing clarity after the winds with Albania standing there is great detail with the snows on the high peaks. As I write the kitchen door is wide open to let the sun in and we enjoyed breakfast on the balcony. The shade temperature may well have been 8°C, but in the sun it was touching 20°C!. This cold snap is forecast to stay with us with some high winds, already we are seeing a few burst water pipes.
The clouds that were around in the morning soon got there matching orders and the wind saw that they left. Once the job was done it started calming down as did the sea. By the time we got to the end of the afternoon we were left with a gentle breeze and the disappearance of the white horses. The sunset was monochromatic orange as we had no clouds left to add any interest. The evening was chilly and dark but clear with so many stars in the heavens joining the normal lights around the bay.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Wednesday 2nd. January 2019 was 4.1°C, real feel 6°C, and the humidity 62% giving a dew point of -3°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 13.7°C and the minimum 10.0°C. A sunny start to the day turning cloudy with drizzle, wind and hail by the evening.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 12.1°C (real feel 8°C), and the minimum was 4.1°C , a dew point of 4°C. The maximum humidity was 58% and the minimum 41%.
The reported UV for today is low at 2 ( Range 1- 11+).

Good morning from Roda. We had quite a lot of rain during the night with some thunder and lightning, however it had all gone by dawn. This meant that there was no frost as we had a good covering of clouds. We had an early run into Corfu town even before the sun had got up with drying roads on this side of Troumpeta with much less sign of rain on the other side. Starting down the other side we were getting the first glimpses of the snow topping the top third of all of the mountains across the channel. By the time we were returning the full glory of the snow was made apparent. We were treated to a truly alpine scene with all the ridges highlighted. Our Pantokrator looked snow free so those snows must have been lying at over 1000m. We still had quite a few clouds around with the sun only appearing at times. Coming over the top at Troumpeta we were delighted with the Diapontian Islands of Erikousa and Mathraki basking in an isolated sun pocket whilst the larger Orthoni was reduced to a dark bulk. There was a storm with heavy rain between Albania and Corfu. All of this with every mountain we could see across the channel dusted with white. At times here the scenery is breath taking. The sun is winning the war with the clouds so I have sun on my back and the kitchen door is open.
Yesterday started off really clear with few clouds with only a gentle breeze and a calm sea. As the day progressed the amount of clouds gradually increased to the north and west until by sunset the sunset was hidden. It was a chilly cloudy evening with increasing wind and waves with the temperature at 10.30pm 8°C. We had a walk into the village in the afternoon and i took some photos whilst we still had clear weather.

Good morning from Roda. It is a winter wonderland only slightly up the mountains with the highest villages having quite a covering of an inch or two. It even snowed for a while here before turning to rain and sleet. Albania is lost in the murk across a sea that looks like liquid silver. It did emerge briefly with an attendant patch of blue sky, only to be covered again almost immediately. That murk is probably snow! The murk is back down our mountains as far as the first ridge behind so anywhere only slightly uphill will be buried in it. It did clear briefly for us to get a glimpse of white snow and frost covered hillsides and trees.
Yesterday, after a morning of clouds and sunny intervals became progressively more cloudy with the rain arriving by late afternoon. We had stood and watched a storm hovering over one part of Albania before apparently heading our way. We could see what we took for rain over much of the Albanian mainland. We had a rainy evening with the temperature hovering around 5°C. We saw reports of quite heavy snow in parts of mainland Greece.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Friday 4th. January 2019 was 4.8°C, real feel 4°C, and the humidity 68% giving a dew point of -1°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 13.2°C and the minimum 8.5°C. A rainy night continued into the day with thunder and lightning on the mainland, easing by end of afternoon to give a good sunset.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 10.5°C (real feel 7°C), and the minimum was 5.5°C , a dew point of 3°C. The maximum humidity was 69% and the minimum 52%.
The reported UV for today is low at 1 ( Range 1- 11+).

Good morning from Roda. It has been an eventful 24 hours. Corfu has seen a lot of snow with even Corfu Town and the airport covered and flights affected. No part of the island seems to have escaped. Further up the mountains the depth of snow reached several inches to be enjoyed by the children on the last day of their Christmas break. Shop keepers in town were building snowmen. It was reported that photos taken yesterday of the snow in town might have been the first ever. Reports from the mainland show significant amounts of snow and road closures, even Athens saw snow. here several road around Pantokrator have been closed due to snow and ice until we get a thaw. On top of that we felt an earthquake that occurred on the mainland in Albania. However back to today, we have had a hard frost and awoke to Albania being almost completely white from top to bottom. The sea is deep blue and calm looking but there are waves coming ashore. There is only a gentle breeze, and the sun is shining in a clear blue sky.
Yesterday started of snowy and we had periods of sleet and snow during the morning, before changing to sleet and then rain. Albania was lost in deep murk across the channel, and our hills behind us disappeared regularly as the snow came and went. The afternoon saw strange weather phenomena as the steam from the warm sea rose to meet the sleet and snow coming from the low clouds. You got these indistinct layers top and bottom of the horizon against a deep dark background you could have sworn was a land mass. There was a moment or two as the weather eased when a glimpse of blue was seen and it got a bit lighter, but the heavy clouds returned some with a hint of pink to indicate the sunset. There was a spell of light drizzle in the evening, but the clouds were breaking up and some stars appearing as were the lights of the Albanian villages.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Saturday 5th. January 2019 was 2.2°C, real feel 2°C, and the humidity 68% giving a dew point of -3°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 13.8°C and the minimum 5.8°C. A sunny and clear day.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 5.9°C (real feel 5°C), and the minimum was 1.0°C , a dew point of 0°C. The maximum humidity was 72% and the minimum 65%.
The reported UV for today is low at 2 ( Range 1- 11+).

The first three photos are of the weather yesterday. From reports around the island we came off very lightly. It was a cold night reaching -1.7C at dawn, but the skies were clear and we had amzing views of Albania. The last two photos were taken in the late afternoon today so there had been some thawing but still beautiful.
This tried to show the snow falling but couldn't get a focus on it The frost and snow behind us on the mountains. This one shows that peculiar phenominum we saw looking out to sea towards Italy down the channel. These two were taken today.

Good afternoon from Roda. And so the cold weather continues with parts of the island still with frost and snow though all roads have now been re-opened. Steve says it is very unsual for the snow to lie for so long. The day started off promisingly, despite a frost, with lovely blue skies, a gentle if swirling breeze and great visibility. There were some clouds to the north and west which looked a bit menacing. However we did manage to get breakfast on the balcony, even if we had to retreat indoors for our cup of tea. Albania is still doing an excellent impersonation of the Swiss alps and looking spectacular across the channel. This morning it was lovely and blue with some noisy waves hitting the shore.
Yesterday we had blue skies for the best part of the day. Clouds did come and go at will, with the wind and the sea increasing as the evening approached. We had quite a good but fairly monochromatic orange sunset leading into a dark and starlit night. It was very clear with the lights of Albania and around the bay in full display mode. It was a chilly start to the evening with the temperature dipping to 3°C before rising to 6°C by the time we turned in.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Sunday 6th. January 2019 was 3.9°C, real feel 4°C, and the humidity 66% giving a dew point of -1°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 16.4°C and the minimum 9.2°C. A sunny and clear day after a cloudy start.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 7.2°C (real feel 6°C), and the minimum was -1.7°C , a dew point of 2°C. The maximum humidity was 73% and the minimum 63%.

Good afternoon from Roda. We were on duty at the Roda recycling center this morning (the group has collected at least 30 cubic metres of recycling material that would otherwise have gone into the bins and land fill). Then we had quite a social afternoon just chatting, mostly about this cold weather we are experiencing. This morning started out with quite clear skies with only a few thin clouds and plenty of sunshine. We hadn't had a frost down here but the tops of our mountains were still white as were the top third of the Albanian peaks opposite. The wind had died away but the sea was still rough with noisy waves coming ashore.
Yesterday after the lovely start ended up being overcast, with very strong winds and a rough sea. It was bracing to say the least walking along the sea front to the village. The whiteness was gradually clearing from the lower slopes of Albania and us and the temperature was rising. The clouds cleared enough to give a lovely pastel sunset with an orange afterglow. The air was exceptionally clear due to the low humidity and the lights around the bay were out in full force and we even had some stars. It felt a bit milder despite the wind, which was moderating a bit. The sea was still very noisy though. The temperature at 10.30 was an almost balmy 9°C!
The temperature at 10.00 am on Monday 7th. January 2019 was 4.1°C, real feel 3°C, and the humidity 47% giving a dew point of -7°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 16.6°C and the minimum 12.6°C. A mostly sunny but slightly hazy day with a flat calm sea.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 9.6°C (real feel 6°C), and the minimum was -0.3°C , a dew point of 0°C. The maximum humidity was 66% and the minimum 45%.
The reported UV for today is low at 2 ( Range 1- 11+).

Good morning from Roda. We were still in this cold snap and awoke to frozen pipes and sub-zero temperatures. We have clear blue skies with the merest hint of clouds, the merest of breezes and a calming down blue sea. We had a heavy frost and Albania and our top peaks are still white. Such is the perversity here that a couple of hours later I am sitting with the door wide open to let in the warming sun having just enjoyed breakfast on the balcony and the temperature is still on 4°C. OK in the shade it is bitter cold, but in the sun it is pleasantly warm and only a thick jumper is needed. By the way the pipes have thawed out, thankfully. It wasn't a problem as we have always have spare bottled water ready for such emergencies, though usually broken water pipes. Electricity and water are never guaranteed here. We have been lucky as many parts of eastern and northern Greece, and in particular the island of Evia have seen very heavy snow with schools being closed. Two years ago we had identical temperatures and an ice fountain in the lane opposite. The maximum temperature that day was 4.2°C and the minimum -2.2°C.
Yesterday was a sunny day for the most part. We did see a some clouds around and the y did get in the way of the sun from time to time, but nothing serious. The wind died away during the day with the sea being slow to follow. It was noisy all day. Despite the sun it felt bitter if you got out of it as the humidity was low. There was some general thawing seen on the lower slopes of Albania and ours too, but our mountain tops remained white despite the sun. We had a gorgeous sunset as enough clouds had gathered to pick up the colours, which were also picked up by the white mountain slopes on both side of the channel. This led onto a very clear and dark starlit night. The low humidity allowing more than the usual quota of stars to perform. We were seeing more lights around the bay, particularly those of the Albania villages. It felt very cold and was a chilly 3°C at midnight.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Tuesday 8th. January 2019 was 1.0°C, real feel 1°C, and the humidity 48% giving a dew point of -8°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 16.5°C and the minimum 11.4°C. A mostly sunny but at times cloudy day with a calm sea.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 7.9°C (real feel 6°C), and the minimum was 3.3°C , a dew point of -5°C. The maximum humidity was 50% and the minimum 36%.
The reported UV for today is low at 2 ( Range 1- 11+).

Good morning from Roda. We had a very wet night with a power cut some time during it. So we awoke to complete cloud cover with low clouds down the mountainsides and Albania completely gone across the stormy sea. It was dry for a while but is now raining steadily fortunately with little or no wind. It is much warmer than yesterday but doesn't feel it. We are due for this to continue for a few days at least but with stronger winds.
Yesterday was very cold but sunny. We had mostly clear skies with a few clouds around, but they didn't really get in the way. It may have been 6°C in the shade but in the sun it was 16°C and quite pleasant. We ended the afternoon with a lovely sunset, which led onto a clear and starlit night with just the start of a crescent moon. All the lights around bay and across the channel were present and correct. It remained clod with the temperature during the day never getting near double figures.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Wednesday 9th. January 2019 was 7.5°C, real feel 3°C, and the humidity 70% giving a dew point of 3°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 16.2°C and the minimum 12.3°C. A mostly cloudy but bright day.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 6.3°C (real feel 7°C), and the minimum was -2.6°C , a dew point of -4°C. The maximum humidity was 49% and the minimum 36%.
The reported UV for today is low at 2 ( Range 1- 11+).

Jan, my powercut that started in the early hours of this morning didn't see me reconnected until 5:40pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I too saw that strange phenomenum low over the sea a few days back from my balcony; I could see the cloud forming on the surface of the water and floating up to join the very low cloud that as you say was heading towards Italy while the much higher cloud cover was heading in the opposite direction. I have never seen it before and your photo catches it nicely; I stood watching it for over quarter of an hour.
