Good afternoon from Roda. We have had a busy day, starting with two hours at the Roda recycling centre, then meeting friends for a leisurely brunch and a catch up. Today is a very calm day with clear skies and barely a cloud to disturb the sunshine. A gentle breeze stirs the leaves, occasionally exerting itself a little before failing miserably. The sea is calm, and the little beach in front of the Coral had at least 5 groups on it. There is quite a general haze with Albania barely making its presence known, and the temperature is creeping up a bit, but again feels more because of the high humidity.
Yesterday was a pretty much perfect summer’s day. Cloudless skies, calm seas a gentle breeze and endless sunshine. We had the usual build up of clouds over the mainland, but they mostly gave up leaving juts a few to add interest to the lovely sunset. The evening felt warm and balmy with the beach side businesses doing well with people dining under the night sky. It did cool down a bit later on with a temperature of 22°C approaching midnight.
The temperature at 8.00am on Sunday 21st. July 2019 was 22.5°C. Real feel 24°C and dew point 18°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 25.5°C (real feel 28°C), and the minimum was 19.5°C, a dew point of 21°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 28.7°C and the minimum 21.6°C. A hot, sunny and humid day.
UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice). We have now reached that time of year were the sun cream has to appear, so easy to burn with this high UV.
DEW POINT Less than 10°C feels dry Between 10°C and 18°C Feels comfortable Between 18°C and 26°C Feels increasingly humid and uncomfortable. At the highest it is unhealthy and even fatal for people with asthma

Good morning from Roda. It seems that the temperature is being to recover after that cooler spell. The morning temperature is back to where we expect it to be. We have a calm sea, a very gentle breeze and sufficient haze to reduce a shy Albania to little more than an outline. It feels like it is going to be a hot and humid day. The cicadas are drowning out most noise, except when a very noisy bus comes down the next lane. Steve and I had a wander round our vegetable garden this morning, it was alive with insects and pollinators with a gentle hum being heard. His garden is unlike any other one I have experienced. There are tracks leading between towering tomatoes, courgettes and sweetcorn. Every inch has plants thrusting skyward, great bunches of cucumber, aubergines and tomatoes dangle in your face. You feel that to stray from the path you would soon be lost and need a guiding rope to find your way out. Steve says that this jungle style has taken many years to develop.
Yesterday was another hot and sunny day with the breeze barely stirring itself. The sea remained calm only playing with a few low waves so as not to lose the knack. The sea is still lagging behind heat-wise, but is very refreshing in deep water. The lack of any clouds didn’t stop the sun from going out with a blast of colour. The sky was awash with deep purply reds fading to orange in graduated layers. Just yet another evening to stand and stare with like minded people and be grateful that we can enjoy such pleasure. It was a balmy evening, quite humid like the daytime with the temperature at 11pm a warm 25°C.
The temperature at 10.00am on Monday 22nd. July 2019 was 24.5°C. Real feel 26°C and dew point 20°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. Apologies for a late report but we did a four hour shift at the recycling centre and needed a coffee and some food and a relax on the beach. We did see the tail end of the dawn which looked very pretty with a rosy glow over the hazy mountains of Albania. The air was still and the sea soundless as we drank our tea and ate our toast bleary eyed. If you are up and about it is a lovely time of day, still cool from the night, the heat of the day still to come a time to gather thoughts. Back to reality though later on as the fire spotter planes flew over head as we were working.
Yesterday the summer continued un-abated with wall to wall sunshine a cooling breeze that rose in the afternoon before giving up and fading away all together. The sea was calm in front of Roda with some small waves further out, which got a bit bigger as the afternoon breeze kicked in. It was a hot and humid day, with only a few clouds creeping over the mainland in the late afternoon. Despite a few clouds being around the sunset was just ordinary, but pretty leading onto a clear night with a few stars twinkling in the not quite dark sky. It was a warm 25°C. at 11pm.
The temperature at 7.00am on Tuesday 23rd. July 2019 was 22.0°C. Real feel 23°C and dew point 16°C.

The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 30.0°C and the minimum 23.3°C. A cloudy start to the day before mostly clearing with very high winds with a rapid drop of 6°C in an hour. Lovely sunset with sea and wind both calming down. Very hot and humid. The reported UV for today is 9 (Range 1- 11+)

Good afternoon from Roda. Apologies for another late report but we had a good FGT this morning and after a lunch at Skouna and a snooze after my fridge had defrosted and needed urgent attention before it flooded the kitchen out. So, we had clear skies this morning after another beautiful dawn, briefly seen, with Albania a tad more visible. The was a bit of a breeze, perfect for drying my washing, and noisy waves. It was quite warm and threatening to get warmer.
Yesterday was another perfect summer’s day, probably not as hot as some parts of the UK and definitely not as hot as some parts of France and other parts of Europe. But, for us it was lovely, not too hot, though there was some humidity making it feel uncomfortable for some and not encouraging any kind of activity other than sunbathing and maybe a gentle paddle to cool down. We are seeing quite a lot of pink sunburn around the village as the UV is still very high. We had another amazing sunset with the western sky suffused with all shades of reds, oranges and purples. The haze acting as a mixer to merge the colours together, and the whole lot reflected in the, by then, flat calm sea. It was a warm and humid evening with some stars strong enough to make their presence felt. The temperature at midnight was a very warm 25°C.
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 24th. July 2019 was 25.0°C. Real feel 26°C and dew point 20°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. A morning trip into town during which we managed to pick up our driving licences, super efficient at the licencing office. An early morning start was necessary, but so enjoyable once you are up and eyes are open. We saw the final glow of the dawn and enjoyed the lovely cool temperatures as we drove to town. We had cloudless blue skies, a very gentle breeze and a quieter sea. The humidity has fallen and so we have less haze so we can see more of Albania, and it feels a bit less humid. The sea is an amazing blue colour, enhanced by the white foam of the numerous speed boats dashing around.
Yesterday was gorgeous and not too hot. We can be thankful that, here on the north coast, we do not get the higher temperatures of other parts of the island. It is hot don’t get me wrong, but just that bit more manageable. The skies stayed cloudless for all of the day, with barely a wisp of a high cloud to mar the surface. The wind didn’t get as strong as forecast, just stirring itself a bit in the afternoon as is its wont. The sea hd gentle waves coming ashore here but were a bit bigger towards the end of the bay towards Almyros. The sunset was good but not as great as this one from the 23rd. which was such a delight to stand and watch. The evening continued warm and humid, much more tolerable by the sea, giving us a very warm 26°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 11.00am on Thursday 25th. July 2019 was 25.7°C. Real feel 27°C and dew point 19°C.

Good morning from Roda. It was a bit of a cloudy start here this morning with the sun playing peek-a-boo behind the clouds. There was barely a breath of wind and we have a noiseless sea. As the morning aged the clouds melted away to the east, leaving us mostly cloud free. We have quite a significant haze with Albania being reduced to barely discernible ridges. Seeing the soaring temperature being experienced in the UK and across Europe I might suggest that you come here for a cool down! Roda, as is nearly always the case, is just a tad cooler than Corfu Town and the west coast, so a pleasant temperature.
Yesterday was lovely all day. A trifle humid, with some clouds gathering in the afternoon. Those clouds soon melted away to leave a cloudless sky for the sun to hold court as it set in what might not be the biggest blaze of glory, but still in a very impressive way. Neither the sea nor the wind had any energy or inclination to stir, so it was a calm peaceful day. The only things seeming to have enough life to do anything were the plentiful cicadas. It is on days like these that I am grateful I am not one of the busy bar staff running about in the heat. The evening was warm and sultry, perfect for whiling the time away with a cold drink or lingering over a tasty meal. The haze had retreated enough for more stars to decorate the night sky, the moon at the moment is a daytime entity.
The temperature at 10.00am on Friday 26th. July 2019 was 24.9°C. Real feel 26°C and dew point 20°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. A series of unfortunate events have led to a late report. The first of which we had been suffering from low water pressure, or completely absent at time, so the washing-up accumulated. Then, when we had got good pressure, I found we had run out of fairy! So, this morning was spent ploughing through the mountain of pots. And, much as I love the forum, with this heat a cooling swim was a necessity. Any way back to the weather. We had a beautiful dawn, with golden/ orange light flooding the Albanian mountains and the flat calm sea. I saw sense and turned over! We awoke to a cloudless sky, the merest of breezes and a calm looking noiseless sea. The haze had eased a bit and Albania had at least some detail to it.
Yesterday was lovely, sunny and quite humid as the humidity reduced to Albania to a smudge of the horizon. There was a small build up of clouds which melted away from over us, leaving some to the east, but they soon followed suit. The day felt warmer than the thermometer said due to the high humidity giving us a very uncomfortable dew point. There was a so-so sunset at the start of a calm and balmy evening with a flat calm sea and hardly a breath of wind. It was 24°C at 11pm but quite a sticky 29°C in the house. Memo to self, try not to use the oven when it is the summer! But the lamb fricassee with fried garlicy polenta was delicious.
The temperature at 10.00am on Saturday 27th. July 2019 was 24.0°C. Real feel 25°C and dew point 18°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. It’s been a funny old day. We were up bright and early for our two hour session at the recycling centre. It was strangely quiet until the last 15 minutes when many people arrived with a lot of their recycling. So, we were late leaving, so rushed back home, my flip flops going ninety to the dozen. The rush was because some friends were coming to have a look at our vegetable garden. It is like a jungle in there, I thought at one point, Steve and Jane had been lost for ever! Then we went for a very extended brunch, usually followed by coffee but the heat had racked up so much that is was beers all round. The wind was so hot from the south, and so strong and gusty adding to the sun blasting from the sky, the only thing to do was retire to the house and have a siesta. We are just watering all the plants and checking that our plant support frames are still working. LUckily my washing had stayed on the line, I was half expecting it to be in Ipsos, the other side of the mountains!
Yesterday was a very hot and hazy day, with a high humidity that made it feel uncomfortable. We went for a swim along at Almyros and watched as a thick mist descended on Roda, almost hiding it from view. The mist then proceeded to climb the hills behind the village. I expect in the village you couldn’t really see it, though some people did say how hazy it had got before clearing a bit. There was a standard monochromatic sunset with a flat calm and very clear silvered sea. The haze had reduced such that some details of Albania appeared and the stars were able to twinkle in the night sky. It was another warm and balmy evening with the temperature at 11pm a sticky 24°C.
The temperature at 8.00am on Sunday 28th. July 2019 was 23.0°C. Real feel 24°C and dew point 17°C.

Good morning from Roda. It seems that today we had the highest minimum temperature, at 24°C, of the year so far. Which probably explains why it was so hot and humid so early. We have a goodly amount of blue skies over us, but there are quite a few low-lying lumpy clouds that keep hiding the sun from us. We have a good amount of haze such that Albania is just about there with a thick topping of clouds on its peaks. There is a gentle breeze and the sea in the channel looks calm but we have noisy waves coming ashore. I can’t see them, but can certainly hear them. The cicadas are in fine voice drowning out most other noises.
Yesterday was hot hot hot, recording the highest temperature I have recorded this year at 31.3°C. Bearing in mind that this recording is taken on my 1st floor north facing balcony, it was probably hotter in Roda itself. We suffered a very hot and strong wind for the best part of the day, very gusty, with ever-changing directions. A very slight bonus was that the humidity had dropped, but the hot winds almost completely negated that fact. The sea though was flat calm as is always the case when the wind is from the south. There was quite a build-up of clouds, both from the north and from the south, but they started melting away before a decent sunset and left us with a mostly clear night sky with some stars shining. We still had quite a haze as the lights from the Albanian mainland were missing. It was a sticky 27°C at midnight!
The temperature at 10.00am on Monday 29th. July 2019 was 26.4°C. Real feel 28°C and dew point 20°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 31.3°C (real feel 32°C), and the minimum was 21.7°C, a dew point of 19°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. Whoever said retirement would not be busy is misguided. We seem to be always on the go. Yesterday we had a marathon session at the recycling centre, what should have been two hours ended up being five and a half hours. We seemed to get van load after van load. We had to call for assistance to help sort plastics nd flat pack cardboard. Too exhausted after that but to go buy a bite of lunch and have a siesta. Unfortunately, we stirred ourselves too late and had to rush to meet friends for an excellent dinner at Roda Park. Kostas has introduced some vegetarian dishes, so I had a meze of the new dishes, baked aubergines with a tasty vegetable and cheese topping, aubergine dip and courgette croquettes. Steve had lamb wrapped in aubergine slices served on a bed on thickly sliced potatoes and a tomato sauce. We tried the chef’s version of baklava, delicious. A call at Pirates for an after-dinner drink and it was nearly midnight before we got home! So, a double report today.
Tuesday
There was an unusual cloud layout in the morning, with our mountains having their tops buried in not very nice-looking clouds, whilst to the north it was a clear sky with similar ones on the Albanian mountains. Initially there was little wind and the sea was calm, but as the morning wore on, we saw the wind stiffening, bring white horses to the channel and waves coming ashore. The sky cleared, and after a lovely monochromatic sunset we had quite a display of stars and the re-appearance of the coastal village lights of Albania. It was generally a humid day lasting into the evening, and we saw a temperature of 25°C at midnight. The temperature at 7.30am on Tuesday 30th. July 2019 was 24.3°C. Real feel 25°C and dew point 19°C.
Monday's maximum temperature was 27.9°C (real feel 29°C), and the minimum was 24.3°C, a dew point of 22°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 28.5°C and the minimum 22.6°C. A sunny start to the day with clouds edging over from the mainland to give us complete cover by the evening. The reported UV for Tuesday was 9 (Range 1- 11+)
Wednesday
We had lovely clear skies this morning with only one or two token clouds blighting the wall to wall celestial blue. There was almost no wind and the sea looked calm, even though we could hear waves hitting the shore. Albania was fairly clear across the channel, we could make out some of the detail. We are now experiencing typical summer temperatures with it being in the mid-20’s from very early on. The pre-dawn low temperature hasn’t been below 20°C for nearly two weeks now. The dew point has persistently stayed in the uncomfortable range for the same length of time. Any cooling breeze is gratefully received.
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 31st. July 2019 was 26.0°C. Real feel 28°C and dew point 21°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 26.9°C (real feel 30°C), and the minimum was 23.4°C, a dew point of 23°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 28.4°C and the minimum 23.2°C. A sunny, hot and humid day with enough clouds to give a lovely sunset. The reported UV for Today is 9 (Range 1- 11+)

Good afternoon from Roda. It was another very early start this morning as we headed to Corfu Town. The sun wasn’t up as I supped the first cup of tea of the day. We did however have a cloudless sky, some haze and a gentle breeze. The gods were with us and we sailed through all the lights, not meeting any lorries or buses or other hazards. We took the scenic route back along the coast. It had been quite a while, over a year, since we had come this route, so much new building work is almost along the whole route. We could see the ferry from Venice heading into port, glimpsed through the passing olive groves. We stopped for coffee at Sinies, to await the recycling centre opening as we had our eye on several feta tins to replace the rotting ones in the garden. The view over Kaloura is back as they have trimmed back the bushes that were threatening to hide it from the purpose-built viewing point.
Yesterday was hot and sunny and quite humid all day, with a fairly calm sea washing ashore in gentle waves. What small fluffy clouds there were were restricted to the Albanian peaks. One fluffy cloud per peak, it looked most unusual. They did thicken a bit as the afternoon wore on, but had completely dispersed by the time the sun went to bed in a blaze of orange lighting up the whole of the western sky. The clear night sky allowed quite a few stars to shine, but the lights of the Albanian coast were reduced to those of one large village. It was a balmy 26°C at 11pm, with barely a hint of wind.

Good morning from Roda. Sorry it is another double report, we had an earlyish start yesterday as a valuable feta tin had been handed in to our recycling centre so we went to pick it up during opening hours. They were very busy close to closing time with people still arriving and product needed to be sorted. So, we volunteered to stay so the next shift would have a clear start. We also needed to go to the computer shop to exchange a cable for our phone after the phone company changed our service. All-in-all too hot to go back home so went to the beach instead. Also, due to the heat a siesta was called for, essential when we were going to make moussakas and water the garden, two hours work for each! So, no time for the report. Well they are the best excuses that I can come up with.
Friday
The day started off with clear blue skies, a pleasant breeze and a ruffled looking sea with noisy waves coming ashore. Albania was barely a presence on the horizon due to the haze. In fact, the early morning sky had almost looked white with it, but the blue did return as the day got hotter, and hotter it got! It was still humid, but not as bad as the day before. It is on days like these that I have respect for the people serving in the bars and on the beach. Any exertion got the sweat dripping off me. The sea by Roda had pleasant playful waves rolling in, but further round the bay where there is deeper water and rocks, we couldn’t get in. Younger fitter people were able to withstand the power of the waves, but not for us. The best we could do was find a convenient rock where we could sit and splash cool water on hot bodies. The day eased into a very warm evening via a pretty sunset enhanced by a few strategically placed horizontal thin clouds. The breeze had died away and sea became flat calm, reflecting the sunset on its mirror. The haze had also receded so that the village lights of Albania were all present surface and correct, supplemented by the bright lights of a cruise ship gliding past and all the lights toad the bay. Beautiful as always. The temperature at 11pm was a lovely 26°C.

The reported UV for Today is 9 (Range 1- 11+)
Saturday It was quite cloudy when we first got up. Nothing serious, just plenty of small insignificant clouds floating in front of the sun. That sun soon put paid to them and they quickly melted away to give our standard summer cloudless skies. There is a pleasant breeze and the sea looks slightly ruffled but is quite silent. Well I think it is, but it is difficult to hear anything above the cicadas. There is still a bit of a haze, but Albania is fairly clear across the channel and the humidity is down a touch, so it is less humid.
The temperature at 10.00am on Saturday 3rd. August 2019 was 27.0°C. Real feel 28°C and dew point 19°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. Yet another busy morning at the Roda recycling centre. We are definitely a product of our own success. When we started seven months ago, we could count the number of bags picked up for processing in a week on two hands. We now have over 60 cubic metres of material and around twelve cubic metres of cardboard, which roughly translates as ten times the quantity. A full English breakfast was a due reward for hard work, shared with friends and a cooling beer afterwards. This all necessitated a mid-afternoon nap. This morning was brought in with mostly clear blue skies, with a few small harmless clouds added for decoration. There was a definite breeze and the sea was responding by looking not quite calm and sending noisy waves onto the shore line. There was still sufficient haze to partially disguise Albania across the channel, and this haze was reflected in the high humidity which was making us all feel just that little bit sticky and uncomfortable.
Yesterday was another almost perfect day. Clear blue skies, a cooling breeze and a calm sea. The downside was that it felt very humid and the slightest activity resulted in being soaked in sweat (or as us ladies say ’glowing’). The late afternoon saw the accumulation of heavy clouds over our mountains, even going so far as to edge someway down their sides. On the other side over Albania it was still clear. Then, something changed and the clouds started melting away and were all gone in the matter of half an hour or so. The monochromatic orange sunset faded into a starlit night with a new moon making a brief appearance before handing the skies over to the stars. These stars were ably aided and abetted by the lights of the Albanian coastal villages, those of a passing cruise ship and the lights around the bay. We, therefore, were able to enjoy a warm, slightly humid evening, suitably decorated for a romantic night. It was a balmy 26°C at 11.30pm.

Good morning from Roda. It was lovely and sunny first thing with what few clouds there were confined to the mainland and gathered round the mountain peaks. One or two stragglers made it across the channel and hid the sun for a time or two. The sea looks calm, but there are noisy waves coming ashore. A swim later on is by no means assured as the wind is due to get up again, starting this afternoon. Thankfully the slightly cooler mornings are continuing, and this morning feeling a lot less humid.
Yesterday was a beautiful day if a bit humid. Not quite a hot as a couple of days ago but still very hot indeed, and feeling quite humid with it. The forecast wind arrived causing parasol edges to flap and be in danger of being blown away. The wind caused the waves to increase and there were plentiful white horses further out in the channel, these rough seas did edge further in shore, particularly to the east of St Georges bay. Once the wind had peaked, they did have the decency to start moderating, but the waves were still quite active in the evening. Oh boy! What a sunset, we just stood in awe. After the initial flush of pinks and lilacs the lower half of the western sky was suffused with all shades of orange, deepening into red as the sun finally sank behind the headland. The colours lingered before finally giving way to the night sky. The winds had blown all trace of clouds away leaving it crystal clear for the back drop of a panoply of stars and the crescent moon. It was a very pleasant 25°C at 11.30pm

Good afternoon from Roda. We had a much easier session at the recycling centre this morning. Still we were kept going for the whole three hours, what a good work out it is and we do enjoy doing it despite everything. The only thing is that when we get home, we need a shower, a nice late breakfast and head for the beach to have a cooling swim and relax. Such is our hard life out here. It was such a nice day for the beach, hot, but not too hot, a gentle breeze fanning hot skin and a cool sea that still has a slight chill as you enter it. The blue skies that had greeted us as we got up soon after dawn, stayed with only a few tiny fluffy white things trying to get into the act and failing completely. There was some haze with Albania struggling to make her presence felt on the horizon.
Yesterday was yet another lovely summer’s day, with a persistent haze that threatened to hide the Albanian coastline from our visitors. The sun did what it is supposed to do, and if things got a bit too hot for comfort there was a gentle breeze to waft over sunburnt skin. It was still a bit humid, but mostly not oppressively so. I was not constantly reaching for the water bottle anyway. There were enough clouds having accumulated during the late afternoon to give us a very pretty sunset, that ended in a blaze of crimson. The rest of the sky was clear enough for the crescent moon to glow gently and for the many stars to twinkle prettily. It was however, a bit cooler evening with the temperature late on being 24°C at 11pm.
