This was Thursday's report - forget to hit 'send.'!
Yesterday, there was no change in the sea conditions, no change to the pure blue sky, no change in the wind. Small changes can make a huge difference, but we are currently trapped in side a finite bubble which I'm going to call 'Dew Point 23'. Temperature & humidity are bouncing around inside our bubble, but the dew point of 23°C remains resolutely fixed. Both temperature and humidity edged up slightly on Wednesday reaching 27.2°C & 79% respectively ... it felt closer to 30°C, but we were still in our 23°C bubble. Whatever the components are doing, each day feels much the same. Overnight, we edged up a little further to 22.9°C and a fairly high humidity of 74% ... maybe today, our bubble will get bigger.
The evening saw the appearance of a few high clouds - not serious ones, but they added interest to the setting sun with a sky full of colourful swirls & scrolls ... such a peaceful way to end the day.

A succession of perfect days is edging up the nighttime conditions, be it from a temperature perspective or from humidity. Even our overnight minimums now are taking the dew point up to 18°C, classified as just comfortable, but starting to feel muggy. Beginning each day from a higher base, is bound to impact on our comfort levels during the following day and yesterday, we burst our bubble by reaching 24°C which is on the edge of oppressive.
The evening made me think that there may be a change on the way, as there were clouds on the mainland and it looked as though Sarande was getting some rain. Other than that, we had hazy hills, the slightest sliver of a moon and a totally silent Little Owl swooping up onto the roof. Overnight, we dropped down to 21.9°C at 70% humidity, but our maximum of 27°C yesterday was accompanied by a high humidity of 84%. It felt more like 30°C which caused the change in dew point. 1°C higher and we might all be complaining.
The recent UV levels have been hovering around 8/9, and there are a lot of pink shoulders around at night. Not even our normal winds have come to the rescue ...

We woke yesterday to a chorus of cicadas - they always seem to get more chirpy when the weather is hot. Freshening winds tempered the high humidity and pushed some of the moisture-laden air over to the mainland. As wind-speed increased, some fluffy fair-weather clouds built up over Albania during the afternoon. All the seafront benches were full in the evening, to watch the sun setting & the blue sky fading to orange under the watchful eye of a new moon. At last light, the picture was completed by the glittering lights of a cruise ship drifting north against the purple silhouette of the Balkans.
By 10pm, the humidity had dropped from its peak of 82% down to 60% and we were all feeling that much more comfortable even though the wind had gone. As with all similar days, claims of extraordinary temperatures were on everyone's lips and I even heard one lady say she wouldn't be able to stand it if it continued near to 40°C! Needless to say it was nowhere near that, peaking at 28.7°C but feeling like 34°C. Clearly, our bubble had well & truly burst and we reached an oppressive dewpoint of 25°C which is uncomfortable for most of us and can cause heat stress issues. Take to the shade and drink more water ... Overnight was higher too, not falling below 23.1°C & 63% humidity.

A steady light breeze took the edge off the humidity yesterday but, other than that, all days are the same at the moment. Only in the evening do we get a variation, and last night at dusk, we had a very textured sea ranging from inky in the east, to pinky in the west. There was a lonely pink mushroom of a cloud over Albania and blurred lines over the Diapontian Islands. Other than that, it had been business as usual ... It must be quite a shock for newly arrived visitors stepping off their 'planes, but most of us are just slowing right down & pacing ourselves in the heat.
We returned to our 'Dew Point 23' bubble on Saturday even though the temperature was identical to Friday, reaching 28.7°C. This was because the humidity dropped by 10% yesterday, resulting in a fall of 2°C in both real feel and dew point. Our overnight minimums dropped a fraction to 22.9°C and 59% humidity, but both started to rise again quickly first thing this morning.

It's a time of pink shoulders and blue skies and, other than some days being more humid than others, there's nothing changing in our weather at the moment. One wonders where the cooling maistro winds have gone as, typically in summer, they arrive about every ten days or so and whip up the sea for a couple of days. It could be that they are more a feature of July/August as this summer pattern of weather has arrived much earlier than usual. Having said that, we are eight days in and nothing yet.
Our evening yesterday saw a few white horses out to sea, but there were no real waves inshore. Maybe the breeze is a sign of more to come soon ... whatever, it made the evening very pleasant. There was an unusal cloud formation spreading from Albania and, with the haze, it was difficult to tell if there was a fire somewhere in the mountains behind Sarande. There was a time when the sea was flat calm and you could see it giving up it's moisture to the atmosphere as the air cooled down. It was so still for a while that you could hear every sound from one end of St. George's Bay to the other.
Yesterday's temperature peaked at 27.2°C, which may sound fairly tame until you think that the humidity reached 80% - back to our dew point of 23°C which we are getting used to. I have heard of a couple of people who started to suffer a bit when it reached 25°C recently. In the daytime, the UV index could be reaching 10, or even 11 around early afternoon, and there is a very high to extreme risk of burning ... please take care.
The minimum overnight dropped a fraction lower to 22.0°C, but at the same humidity 0f 59% ... it was a pleasant evening.

Good morning from a very damp and cool Edinburgh. Not many days now when back in the heat of Corfu. Steve has asked me to apologise but he has no Internet so no report other than the maximum temperature yesterday was 27.5C. It felt much much warmer due to the high humidity level which made it feel very uncomfortable, especially if doing anything slightly energetic.

Good afternoon from a cloudy and cool Bellshill. Steve is still without Internet. He told me that it almost got to 30C but with gathering cloud it felt humid. Hope normal service resumed ASAP.

Steve is telling me that the Internet problems are continuing and he is now waiting for OTE to fix it. Roda felt some of that storm that hit Haljidiki with an amazing lightning show a severe wind and torrential rain. Yesterday was cooler and still windy.

I think the last weather report was Monday, but I still don’t have internet and I’ve no way of checking. Maybe a summary of the last three days will fill in some gaps.
It was clear by Tuesday that the weather was due to change, with a big white dove of a cloud hovering over Roda in the late afternoon and rumblings far in the distance over the Balkans. Even our night watchman of a moon was trying to escape over the western horizon while it was still daylight. Conditions were changing and even the insects and birds were responding, giving us, in there own way, an early warning. There was a chaotic & noisy dogfight over the centre of the village just before dusk, as swallows & swifts swooped & twisted in a frantic feeding frenzy. I’ve never seen that before … Temperatures were pushing 30°C and the humidity was high.
By Wednesday, it looked as though the air had simply had enough and couldn’t absorb another drop of moisture. There was a heavy dew and more clouds than we’d had for some time. The atmosphere was well & truly saturated. By 11am it was cloudy and by noon we had the first spots of rain. Later in the day, we found ourselves in the grip of very squally winds which became very hot, pushing temperatures above 30°C. By 11pm, we were witness to a spectacular light show behind the clouds and mountains of Albania. Looking out from Roda, it covered half of our horizon and, if you’d seen the continuous flashes in a stage show, you’d have said it wasn’t real. I’ve never seen such a prolonged spell of wall-to-wall lightning. People have said that the wind direction was changing rapidly as the centre of the storm was on the move, and it wasn’t long before it made the short journey across the sea to visit us. By midnight, the winds were huge and those who didn’t see it coming were having their outside furniture rearranged into interesting new fcormations. Soon after, there was a spell of heavy rain to add to the mixture as the storm passed through the village with total disregard for people or property. Even within Roda, there were some places much harder hit than others, but we got through it in safety even though a few trees offer a bit less shade than they did before.
We awoke on Thursday to much clearer skies, a freshening wind, and our old friend the north-westerly ‘maistro’. Our overnight temperature had dropped to its lowest level for over a month. We could see the trees in Albania again, and the big waves rolled in all afternoon. Having grown accustomed to temperatures in the upper 20s with high humidity, the evening, to me, seemed quite cold, especially were you were exposed to the remnants of the breeze. Clearly, there was still turmoil in the upper atmosphere as the sun set on the western headland like a giant bonfire causing a crazy pattern of grey & orange swirls to the north-west. There was a curious ‘eye’ over the north of Albania that looked like a scary gaseous cloud above the surface of Jupiter.
More when we can …

We are sorry that the weather reports have been a bit haywire, but we first had problems with the internet and now they say we have a problem with the landline! Originally, we had a phone that worked and maybe a duff router, now we have a new router but no phoneline!! Hopefully to be fixed on Friday.
I will give a quick overview of the weather here for the last few days and get back to normal tomorrow. All I can say is that for the time of year when we usually have wall to wall sunshine, high temperatures only interrupted by the occasional brilliant thunderstorm accompanied by its usual downpour, the current weather is poor with the temperatures well down on the norm. Today we awoke to heavy clouds and steady rain and a temperature of 22°C and falling. The weather is definitely mad this year.
Saturday stared off reasonably well though not as hot as usual for this time of year. The clouds built up steadily to give us rain by around 9pm, together with thunder and the most amazing lightning show. The maximum for the day was 24.6°C with the minimum at 19.8°C, and it was still a warm 24°C at 11pm.
Sunday saw us getting very strong winds with wild seas and white horses for as far as you could see. The wind did blow the clouds away, leaving a heavy bank over the mainland, and long sunny spells for us. We ended the day with good visibility and clear skies giving us a lovely monochromatic sunset, an almost full moon, stars in the sky and the waves dying down. It was still 23°C at 11.30pm. The maximum for the day 24.4°C and the minimum 21.3°C.
Monday started off cloudy with noisy waves reaching the shore, much calmer further out. Albania was just about making its presence seen. The day had some good sunny spells but also some long periods of cloud when it felt a touch cool. However, by evening we had clear skies again with just enough cloud remnants to add interest. The sea was calming down even further and it was a warm 23°C at 11pm. The maximum for the day was 25.8°C and the minimum 18.5°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. We still have no internet so I am having to do a hot spot from my mobile. We awoke to the sight of a cloudless sky, carefully ignoring the few wispy ones loitering around the peaks. There was a gentle breeze and we had a calm sea. So normal service was resumed? Sadly no, the temperature is still very much on the cool side for this time of year, with the 10 am temperature 2°C lower than usual with the maximum around 4-5°C cooler. Yesterday was worse with the temperature a full 8°C than the average temperature for that day. The cicadas seem to enjoy this weather as they are very noisy this year. The insects seemed to have bloomed as the swifts, swallows and martins have feeding frenzies in the skies over our heads.
Yesterday started as it went on for quite some time with very low clouds and a constant but gentle rain. The valleys behind us were full of thick mist with the peaks buried in heavy rain clouds. Albania was absent on the horizon across a quite calm grey sea. The rain did peter out by around 3pm, but it stayed cloudy and quite threatening for the rest of the day. Sunset was only hinted at by some clouds getting a tinge of peach. The evening saw multiple rain storms heading wets along the channel with us staying still dry. It stayed cool though with the late evening temperature a pretty chilly 22°C.
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 17th. July 2019 was 22.5°C. Real feel 23°C and dew point 20°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 23.6°C (real feel 24°C), and the minimum was 20.9°C, a dew point of 20°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 31.7°C and the minimum 22.8°C. A mostly cloudy, hot and humid day. The reported UV for today is 9 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice). We have now reached that time of year were the sun cream has to appear, so easy to burn with this high UV.
DEW POINT Less than 10°C feels dry Between 10°C and 18°C Feels comfortable Between 18°C and 26°C Feels increasingly humid and uncomfortable. At the highest it is unhealthy and even fatal for people with asthma

Good morning from Roda. The hills may have been filled with the sound of music, but here on Corfu the trees are full of the sound of cicadas. They are so noisy at the moment. It is incredible that so much noise can come from such a small number od not very big insects. Dawn was a thing of beauty to behold with the sky turning rosy as the red ball of the sun lifted itself from its slumbers. We were awake at an ungodly hour is that we had an appointment in town. There was a cloudless sky with a few tentative wispy clouds floating around. There is a gentle breeze just stirring the leaves of the trees and ruffling the surface of the calm sea. Waiting for Steve to use the ATM in Roda I was amazed at the number of swifts and house martins wheeling around at rooftop level obviously gorging on insects. I could see over 50 at any one time. It is still a few degrees cooler than normal.
Yesterday was a lovely almost cloud free day, although there was a build up of clouds to the west, so maybe Kassiopi didn’t have such a nice day as we did. The sea stayed practically flat calm with waves only at the far end of St George’s Bay at Almyros. It was good to see the sun back again but the temperatures are still not back to normal July levels. As an aside the temperature on 16th was 8°C lower than the norm! There clouds saw reason and mostly disappeared by sunset, which started as a flush of pink in the sky and over the mountains, turning to all shades of violet before eventually flooding the sky with burnt orange. It was stunning, we just stood and watched it with Maria from The Brandy Shop. The evening was warm with the late evening temperature a balmy 24°C at 10.30pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Thursday 18th. July 2019 was 22.4°C. Real feel 23°C and dew point 17°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 24.3°C (real feel 25°C), and the minimum was 19.3°C, a dew point of 18°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 26.7°C and the minimum 24.0°C. A morning of clouds and sunshine with a very strong wind finally blowing the clouds away by the afternoon.
The reported UV for today is 9 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice). Good morning from Roda. It is not quite a beautiful morning today. There is a fair bit of thin high cloud that from time to time masks the sun. Albania is either receding into the haze or fighting to get clear of it. There is the usual gentle breeze and the sea appears to be calm and tranquil. It is however, not as warm as we would expect with the temperatures persisting at around 4°C lower than expected. Most of our visitors however are enjoying the heat and saying it is hot hot hot.
Yesterday was a beautiful day in its entirety, wall to wall sunshine, barely a cloud in the sky over us and a gentle breeze to cool the skin. The air was clear with Albania in its rightful place across the calm, slightly ruffled sea that separates us. There was a build up of cloud over the mainland but that didn’t affect our share of the sunshine and had mostly melted away by the end of the day. There was another very pretty monochromatic sunset. Not as spectacular as the night before, but still worthy of a few moments to stand and admire.
The temperature at 10.00am on Friday 19th. July 2019 was 22.6°C. Real feel 24°C and dew point 18°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 24.8°C (real feel 26°C), and the minimum was 19.3°C, a dew point of 19°C.

Good morning from Roda. We have internet again yippee!! It is quite a hazy morning we awoke to. Albania is just about discernible across the channel. The word for this morning is calm. There is barely a breath of wind and the sea is calm, and at the moment there is little in the way of human noise, all that can be heard is the song of the cicadas. We have very little if any cloud around, so it promises to be a lovely July day.
Yesterday was lovely despite the high cloud, which evaporated and the banked clouds over the mainland, which had the sense to stay there. The sea stayed lovely and calm, though it is not as warm as you would expect for this time of year. I call it refreshing when you go in. I am not complaining because it is so nice to be back swimming in the sea again. The haze developed at bit during the afternoon just enough to blur the details, par for the course in the summer when Albania can disappear for weeks on end. The day felt warmer than the actual temperature as it was quite humid. The clouds over the mainland mostly melted away, just leaving enough for yet another lovely riot of colours as the sun sought its bed. The whole show was reflected in the flat calm of the Ionian Sea. At one point the reflection from a single large cloud over the mainland highlighted a large sector of the sea with a lone fishing boat caught in the spotlight. The picture was enhanced by the shape of a young boy playing on the groyne at Nino’s, caught in the dying golden rays of the sun. As the evening wore on it became a little cool.
The temperature at 10.00am on Saturday 20th. July 2019 was 23.2°C. Real feel 24°C and dew point 18°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 24.6°C (real feel 26°C), and the minimum was 19.2°C, a dew point of 21°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 28.0°C and the minimum 22.3°C. A sunny with some haze and usual afternoon breeze. The reported UV for today is 9 (Range 1- 11+)
