Good afternoon from Roda. We went to Skouna in case anyone turned up for the FGT, and some friends joined us for a very pleasant coffee and light lunch. Then we had to call into the recycling centre as there had been a collection and 40 builders sacks had been left blocking the gate. Then, hot and sweaty, we headed to the beach for a swim. Such is retired life out here. This morning felt quite a bit fresher than of late, with a lower humidity and a slightly lower temperature. We had clear cloudless blue skies, a barely-there breeze and the sea just whispering as it came ashore. You could hardly hear it above the morning chorus of the cicadas. Albania was just a bit more than a series of interesting ridges as the haze had lightened a bit.
Yesterday was just perfect all day. The one or two cheeky clouds that were trying their luck in the morning had seen sense and drifted away to bother other people. The usual late afternoon breeze got up and saw white horse appear in the channel. Well, to be honest they were not that big, so maybe, we will call them white ponies. The breeze did the right thing and calmed right down for the evening. The air was so clear that it seemed that I could see every tree on the hillside opposite, almost able to count every leaf. We were blessed with another amazing sunset, with the sky turning a deep crimson behind the headland. The magical effect was enhanced by the sight of the fluttery flight of the bats over the stream catching their quotas of mossies. A fishing boat was caught in relief against that amazing sky as a Christmas tree of a cruise ship glided passed us. The evening did feel a little cooler but was still very pleasant for the evening strollers. It was 24°C at 10.30pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 7th. August 2019 was 24.1°C. Real feel 25°C and dew point 17°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 27.4°C (real feel 29°C), and the minimum was 20.1°C, a dew point of 20°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 29.1°C and the minimum 22.4°C. A cloudy start to the day then sunny.
The reported UV for Today is 9 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice). We have now reached that time of year were the sun cream has to appear, so easy to burn with this high UV.

Good afternoon from Roda. I have just spotted that, due to some spam, I posted yesterday's report on the 2018 thread, so I reposted it to keep continuity. Hopefully the last very early trip into town this morning. The only good point about it is that we get to see the glorious dawn flush the sea and mountains golden orange. It was feeling lovely and cool and fresh at such an early hour. The sky was clear apart from some streaky thin things draped across the western edge over Karousades. There was some haze but it was remarkably clear with a reduced humidity, so that Albania had more detail than recently. There was no real wind or breeze and the sea was flat calm and silent. Going over Troumpeta and looking back Ericousa was looking particularly clear. Coming down the other side we could see a cruise ship stealing into port.
Yesterday was another perfect summer’s day. Hot, but not too hot, only slightly humid and a gentle breeze. And, so it stayed for the rest of the day. Sunset was the standard lovely monochrome affair, which, as usual, we stopped and watched for a while. The new beach between the Coral Hotel and the Ammos Grill Room had some Greek families and their children enjoying splashing around in the warm sea in the rays of the setting sun, whilst their elders enjoyed a good catch-up. The evening was calm and still with a lovely half moon silvering the land from a clear sky. The wind had hardly any breath to stir and the waves had no energy to move. It was still 25°C at 10pm.
The temperature at 7.30am on Wednesday 7th. August 2019 was 20.3°C. Real feel 20°C and dew point 13°C. The temperature at 11.30am on Wednesday 7th. August 2019 was 25.7°C. Real feel 27°C and dew point 19°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 26.8°C (real feel 29°C), and the minimum was 20.1°C, a dew point of 21°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 30.6°C and the minimum 23.3°C. A sunny day with just a few clouds by sunset.

Good morning from Roda. It is a cloudy old start to the day. We have a sky full of inoffensive looking clouds that are all rushing to hide the sun from us. For a while it looked like the heat of the sun would see them off, but they are obviously made of sterner stuff and have regrouped and advanced. On the positive side there is hardly a breath of wind and the sea is flat calm and the heat is climbing steadily. So, I don’t think anyone will be too disappointed with the day, and it may be of some relief to the many people going around doing very good imitations of lobsters!
Yesterday was mostly cloud free, the early wishy-washy efforts in the west were soon mostly burnt off. However, the afternoon breeze dragged in more of their friends. That breeze had whipped up some waves, but they collapsed through a lack of energy as the wind died away completely to give us a calm breathless evening. The air cleared to give us lovely clarity, with Albania springing out before us in much detail. Due to the swirling and striated clouds the sunset was an ever-changing picture for more than an hour, with golden oranges to the west and earlier, reflected pinks and lilacs to the east. There was a partial clearing of the clouds to give us a bright half moon and stars. The lights from across the water joined in with the lights around our bay. But it was a cooler evening with the temperature at 10.30pm a mere 24°C.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Friday 9th. August 2019 was 24.3°C. Real feel 24°C and dew point 18°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 26.9°C (real feel 29°C), and the minimum was 20.1°C, a dew point of 21°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 30.9°C and the minimum 24.5°C. A sunny start soon clouding over with rain reported around the north, before clearing.

Good morning from Roda. The report is late because we went to help the Acharavi recycling centre to open. It was the official opening and the mayor elect was there for the all-important photo. There was a lot of support from passing traffic with lots of horn blowing. Unfortunately, there was no shade so after nearly three hours we were hot sweaty and dirty. A nice Greek man kept supplying us with bottles of cold water, and another person brought a selection of small cakes in. We had a quick change of clothes and headed for coffee and a bite to eat before dashing to the beach for a refreshing swim. This morning saw another calm and still start to the day. We had clear blue skies an almost there breeze and a calm looking sea, however, we could hear waves coming ashore. There was quite a haze with Albania barely making an appearance. It was shaping up to be another hot and sunny day.
Yesterday, after not the greatest start with lots of thin cloud around, that tried to melt away before accumulating again. The sun however, won through and the clouds were soon sent to rout. What clouds remained were huddling together to the east on the mainland. The afternoon breeze did its usual thing before wearing itself out and dying away completely. The increase in wind had dispersed much of the haze so Albania and our trees and hills behind us appeared in much sharper detail. There was another good sunset leading onto a clear night with the half moon shining brightly in the darkening evening sky, allowing a scattering of stars to shine. We could see the coastal Albanian village lights as a backdrop to yet another highly illuminated cruise ship drift slowly across the channel. It was a lovely balmy evening with the temperature at 11.30pm 25°C.
The temperature at 9.00 am on Saturday 10th. August 2019 was 24.8°C. Real feel 26°C and dew point 19°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. We had another session at the recycling centre this morning, this time our own at Roda. It is hot and physical work for the most part, but we find satisfaction in doing our little bit in keeping some of the rubbish from the roadside, and knowing that it is going off the island for processing. After a quick wash and brush up we headed for our weekly meeting with friend over brunch. The heat here is stifling, though the temperature isn’t that high, with the high humidity it feels very hot and uncomfortable. So, we had a little nap with both fans going full blast.
This morning arrived with clear skies, sufficient haze to almost hide Albania, barely a breath of wind and a calm sea looking for all the world like shot silk. First thing in the morning it feels quite fresh, but as the heat builds up it quickly get oppressive.
Yesterday stayed cloudless for all the day with the wind being absent nearly all that time, only stirring itself for its usual afternoon playtime when parasols are fair game and can end up being chased down the beach. But, in this heat, the effort was too much and the end of the afternoon saw the wind nearly spent. The waves that were kicked up by the wind persisted into the evening but they were losing force all the time. This late afternoon time is when many Greek families find the time to go the beach and have a reviving splash around, and a catch up on the local gossip. Their silhouettes against the setting sun are magical. The sunset was another tapestry of colour. The first sign was the gradually change of colour of the mountains and sea s they turned pink and lilac. These then gave way to the fierce oranges that coloured the whole of the western sky. The final show after the sun had finally given up for the day and sunk beneath the horizon turned the sky flame red, gradually paling to leave only a hint as the moon took over. The clear sky was dominated by the 2/3 moon and a few bright stars and some of the more vigourous Albanian village lights. It was a very warm 27°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 8.00 am on Sunday 11th. August 2019 was 24.8C. Real feel 26°C and dew point 18°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 28.9°C (real feel 33°C), and the minimum was 22.0°C, a dew point of 24°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 30.2°C and the minimum 24.5°C. A sunny day with a cloudy spell before clearing.

Good morning from Roda. It is another hot and humid day here. We have significant haze with Albania barely an outline across the channel. We sat eating our breakfast watching the zephyr bring the dark blue ribbon of sea ever closer from Albania. The sea turned from flat calm to ruffled and choppy. A day for expending as little energy as possible whilst trying to stay cool and hydrated.
Yesterday was much the same as the days before, that is very hot and humid. We never saw a so much as a single cloud, even over the mainland where they tend to accumulate. There was some relief when the afternoon breeze kicked in, but even it didn’t have the inclination to continue and we sank once more into the hot and humid stupor it had raised us from. The waves pushed up by that breeze continued into the evening, losing power all the time. The sunset was stunning as we reached the end of our lane to the beach road. There was the sun, a golden orb, balanced on the headland whilst all around it the sky turned fiery, you just had to stop and gawp and marvel at the wonder of it. The night settled into a clear pattern with a growing moon, several stars and the usual lights from around the bay and the ubiquitous cruise liner.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Monday 12th. August 2019 was 27.0°C. Real feel 30°C and dew point 23°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. Yet another late report mostly due to the three hour session we did at the centre in Roda this morning. It is almost getting to be like a job, and we are retired supposedly! Even though there is shade there, three hours working in this heat is more than enough for us, hats off to all the workers here who have to work outside now. Once the shift was finished, we made a quick dash home to change, wash and headed for essential frappe and the beach. This morning, after a lovely dawn, started off clear and still hazy though it felt nice and fresh at 7.30am. There was no wind, the sea was flat calm and Albania was just an outline. Then somebody turned the oven on, as it quickly got hotter. I don’t think we have seen a cloud for days now. Hopefully it stays good as the village panayiri is being held over the next two days.
Yesterday was hot, humid and sunny all day, with the real feel quite a bit more than the actual temperature. So far the hottest day of the year as recorded on our balcony. There were many hot and sweaty bodies around seeking shade or the pool and sea. The afternoon breeze failed completely; it just didn’t have the energy to stir itself. The day eased itself into evening via yet another spectacular sunset. A beautiful backdrop for the wedding at the Coral Hotel. The night sky was clear with an almost full moon gracing the heavens with some of the brightest stars. The lights around the bay hardly got any support from the light from Albania. The temperature at 7.30 am on Tuesday 13th. August 2019 was 22.2°C. Real feel 22°C and dew point 16°C. However, the temperature at 11.30am was 27.7°C. Real feel 30°C and dew point 22°C.

The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 30.5°C (real feel 38°C and dew point 26°C) and the minimum 23.3°C. A sunny hazy day with clouds over Albania and a stiff wind.

Good morning from Roda. It seemed a very hot night last night, with both fans going full blast and neither doing more than moving hot air around. This morning it is very calm with barely a breath of wind, a flat calm sea and a lot of haze probably caused by the high humidity. Hopefully the strong winds that are due alter today and tomorrow will clear some of this away. Albania is just a ghost across the channel and our hills are also spectral. Hopefully they will get the large multiple fires on the Albanian mountains opposite under control before that wind hits them. At this time of year, we get frequent fly-overs by the fire spotter planes and fire engines are placed strategically around the island close to potential fire hotspots. The fire planes have just flown over us.
Yesterday stayed hot, breathless and with a very calm sea. I so enjoyed the first long sea swim I have managed this year. The sea was smooth, waveless with barely any swell, warm and crystal clear. Several dips were called for to cool overheated bodies. The haze did retreat for a while and Albania came into vision again as the humidity feel a little. The sunset was another glorious one enhanced a little by the very slightest suggestion of a thread of cloud, the first we have seen for a good few days. The night was illuminated by an almost full moon, several stars and the wildfires raging on the Albanian mountain sides. They appeared to be racing through the upper valleys as we could see at least three separate areas, two of them with very clear super-heated centres. The temperature at 10.00 am on Wednesday 14th. August 2019 was 26.3°C. Real feel 28°C and dew point a sticky 23°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 30.1°C (real feel 36°C), and the minimum was 22.1°C, a dew point of oppressive 24°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 30.1°C (real feel 36°C and dew point 24°C) and the minimum 23.4°C. A cloudy day with a drop or two of rain before clearing later on.

Good morning from Roda. It is a big religious festival day here in Greece as they celebrate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, all offices and major supermarkets are shut, only the tourist shops and cafes will remain open. Many Orthodox people will end their fast today, hence the many panayiris around the island. There was a big parade in Corfu Town with St Spiridon on one of his outings. We will go to the panayiri here in Roda tonight. It was a very warm night with the temperature at midnight 27°C and the dawn temperature a warm 24.8°C. The humidity has fallen so we are getting a better view of Albania, where the fires of the other night seem to be out. Though the fires on Evia Island to the east of Athens are still a problem. We, here on Corfu, are on high alert so please be careful with discarded cigarettes and matches when away from towns and villages. We have some streaky pathetic clouds tracing across the sky, the wind is just about noticeable and the sea is ruffled with almost white horses and noisy waves coming ashore. The high winds that were forecast are due tonight and for the next two nights, being their strongest in the evenings, with the strength dying away over the following days.
Yesterday was hot and humid all day, with the only relief coming once the sun had set. The humidity levels were very high resulting in any effort leaving me literally dripping. There was a bit of a breeze in the afternoon, so the beach was a good place to be with the sea calming down as the afternoon wore on. We managed a couple of short swims which helped cool us down. There was another magnificent sunset, with the dying rays reflected in the harbour full of little boats. The very balmy evening saw us with a full moon and a scattering of stars and some lights from across the water. The fires from the previous night looked out as I mentioned before. It was a very sticky 27°C at midnight.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Thursday 15th. August 2019 was 27.1°C. Real feel 29°C and dew point 19°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 29.4°C (real feel 35°C), and the minimum was 23.4°C, a dew point of oppressive 24°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 29.8°C (real feel 36°C and dew point 26°C) and the minimum 22.7°C. A sunny start before clouds rolled in to give a quick shower and a roll or two of thunder before clearing.

Good morning from Roda. After a rather cool, if not downright chilly night, we got up to clear skies, a gentle breeze and a beautiful looking calm sea in shades of jade and indigo, and we can just about hear waves breaking on the shore. Albania is much clearer today as the humidity has dropped and the air is clearer. It is still a degree or so cooler than we have had, so feeling nice and fresh. We will enjoy the calm before the forecast wind builds up again this afternoon.
Yesterday was a very peculiar day with regard to the temperature. It started off in the usual way hot, but less humid and no real wind. Then the wind started and built up to quite a gale with the sea pushed into big waves and standing on the beach, if you wore glasses, made you think it was a cloudy day as the lenses were misted over with spray. The temperature dropped with the wind, loosing a couple of degrees by the mid-afternoon. The winds did bring quite a lot of cloud overhead, but it was soon gone leaving us with clear skies. We were worried that the panayiri festival would be cancelled. But by the time it started it was nice and calm again. Whilst the wind had blown the humidity away it left us with a decidedly chilly evening. I wished I had taken something warm with me to the festival. It might have been 23°C, but it felt much cooler. The festival was blessed with a clear sky with a full moon, many stars and a lack of wind. By the time we walked the long way back along the sea the sea was calming down nicely into long long waves gently breaking on the beach.
A couple of photos taken at Almyros yesterday.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Friday 16th. August 2019 was 24.7°C. Real feel 26°C and dew point 18°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 27.7°C (real feel 31°C), and the minimum was 23.0°C, a dew point of 22°C.

Good morning from Roda. It was another cool night with the temperature falling to just over 20°C, which necessitated the fans being switched of and the sheet back in use. However, we awoke to a glorious morning. The skies are clear, there is a pleasant breeze and the humidity has fallen, so it feels more comfortable, fresh even. The drop in humidity means that we have good views of Albania across a quite ruffled looking sea. The sea may be ruffled but we can just hear waves hitting the beach. Fingers crossed that the sea is calm enough for a swim, but we are not that hopeful as we are expecting another 40km/hr wind starting in the afternoon before dying out overnight. Next week sees us having much calmer southerly winds, so hopefully, we’ll get lovely flat calm water for swimming in.
Yesterday was a cooler day than recently with the temperatures a good 4°C lower than of late. The lower humidity and clear air gave us lovely views of Albania, across a sea that was still on the choppy side with white ponies (small horse) out in the channel and breaking waves on the shore. No swim then at Almyros, just a splash to cool the skin as it was too breezy to put up the parasols. The wind didn’t reach the strengths forecast and died away as predicted by the evening. There was yet another beautiful sunset, clearing the way for the moon and the stars to shine with all the lights around the bay joining in. It was a cool 23°C at 11.30pm, so if you are out and about late you may want a wrap or something warm.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Saturday 17th. August 2019 was 24.7°C. Real feel 25°C and dew point 19°C.

The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 28.0°C (real feel 30°C and dew point 21°C) and the minimum 19.9°C. A sunny day with a calm sea which got waves in the evening.

Good afternoon from Roda. The cooler nights are continuing with the dawn temperature dropping to 19°C from a midnight temperature around 23°C. We had an early start again with our session at the recycling followed by a well deserved breakfast and a catch-up with friends. This morning saw mostly clear skies with traces of high clouds that soon burnt off in the sun. We still have quite a lot of haze, with Albania only just putting in an appearance across the ruffled channel. It may look calm but I could hear waves crashing on the shore line.
Yesterday, for the most part, was lovely and sunny with clear skies and a pleasant breeze. The haze had reduced so that we could see Albania much clearer. However, in the afternoon we saw clouds gathering that at times obscured the sun before the wind chased them away. Sitting on our balcony we could see the indigo strip of water in front of Albania covered in white horses, and as time went on the white horses spread towards us bringing the wind with them. It was not the strong wind that had been forecast, more like a very stiff breeze, which had the decency to die away before doing any damage in the garden. The glorious sunset was surpassed by the moon rise. The first inkling was a golden glow to the east with striated clouds in front of it. In a matter of three minutes the moon had fully risen to float proud and joyous in the night sky, soon to be joined by a retinue of stars. It was a coolish 23°C close to midnight.

Good afternoon from Roda. Another really busy morning at the recycling centre, this time at Acharavi not Roda. The users are still getting used to how it works and some volunteers need training as well. Because there is no central facility to do this, we have to separate out four different common plastics, as well as aluminium, tin, cardboard and paper and tetra style packs. The manufacturers don’t make it easy either with any numbering being mostly indistinct or missing. Sorry, rant over.
We had lovely clear skies this morning, maybe with a hint of thin high cloud, a flat calm sea and an almost non-existent wind. There was enough haze to reduce Albania to a series of pretty ridges, the overall picture was enhanced by a large three-masted yacht gliding along the channel.
Yesterday was a lovely day, just about perfect. It started off feeling quite fresh due to the low humidity, but as the heat racked up it started to feel a bit more humid, but still quite bearable. We had another episode of the white horses far out in the channel being herded towards the shore as the wind increased. It was probably a good thing that the wind didn’t get too fierce as there were a couple of wild fires up by Old Perithia. The spotter planes and fire-fighting planes were in action and one fire was soon out. The other took a bit longer. The planes are still circling the island as I write. It was however, a short-lived affair and we settled down for the evening with gentle winds and a flat calm sea. The sunset was muted with shades of pinks and lilacs flooding the sea and mountains, before dying away quite quietly. We had a good show of lights, both above our heads, and from around the bay. It was a cool 23°C at 11pm.

Weather Good afternoon from Roda. We had our early start at the Roda recycling doing three hours from 8 until 11am. We were both kept busy for the whole shift. This recycling lark is almost turning into a part-time job. After three hours in this heat we headed back for a quick change before heading for the all-important iced coffee and a cooling swim. A quick bite to eat and Steve is off to water his vegetables, off which we have many. In fact, we can’t move in the kitchen without falling over tubs of tomatoes!
Dawn was a very pretty affair, with rising sun flooding the mountains opposite and the sea golden orange. By the time we had had our cup of tea there were clear skies, a calm sea and a light wind. There was enough haze to just about hide Albania from view, but we could see some of the mountain ridges emerging it. The mornings are beginning to feel a little fresher, but once the sun gets into its stride the temperature rise nicely.
Yesterday stayed lovely all day, with no real change in either the lack of cloud, or the breeze or the haze. It didn’t feel too humid and the temperatures were kind. Hot enough to satisfy the sun lovers cool enough to walk about in. The day drifted into evening via a very muted and pastel sunset, with the colours changing from pinks and lilacs to more peach and orange as the sun sank below the headland. We had a clear night sky with many stars turning up to add their mite. It was a cool 23°C at 11pm. The temperature at 11.00 am on Tuesday 20th. August 2019 was 24.5°C. Real feel 25°C and dew point 19°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. We met up at Yummies for a FGT with a couple of friends and had a good natter. Nikos and Louise’s coffee and rolls as good as ever. Poor Nikos isn’t getting much sleep these days as it was 6am before he closed! The fire plane has just gone over as we are still on high alert and will be until the first real rains. An afternoon report because the weather was so nice and the sea so calm it was much nicer having a gentle sea swim followed by eating fresh figs, apricots and nectarines on the beach. The alternative was sitting in the apartment typing this report, there was no choice in the matter. It is a hard life this retirement lark.
This morning had a very calm start with a nice breeze and a slightly ruffled but silent sea. Albania was just a little bit more than a series of ridges across the channel. The haze and humidity causing it to feel humid and sticky. Fortunately, the temperatures are staying a couple of degrees cooler than this time last year, but with the high humidity it is still feeling very hot in the sun. I have two thermometers I use to check the temperatures as we are just that little bit cooler than those reported on the west coast.
Yesterday was just another consistent day with clear skies, a gentle breeze and some humidity but not to the extent of being oppressive. The afternoon breeze was barely noticeable, and we slipped into evening via yet another stop and stare sunset. This time we had a glassy surface in the harbour, reflecting the changing colours, first the soft pinks and then the stronger oranges as the sun retired. We had a clear night with many stars and plenty of lights around the bay. The moon these days is up during the day! The cool evenings are here to stay I believe with the late-night temperature barely reaching 23°C.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Wednesday 21tst. August 2019 was 23.9°C. Real feel 25°C and dew point 20°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 25.8°C (real feel 27°C), and the minimum was 20.2°C, a dew point of 21°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 29.7°C (real feel 33°C and dew point 21°C) and the minimum 21.9°C. Started of sunny but got cloudy later on, 25°C at end of evening.
