Good morning from Roda. There has been a drop in the level of humidity such that it feels a bit less humid and the air is clearer. Karousades is basking in the early morning sun, you can even see the sun being reflected off the chimney cowls. Albania has re-emerged and can be seen in fairy good detail. The sea is calm and I can’t hear waves coming ashore, and the breeze is gentle. Breakfast on the north balcony listening to the numerous birds around us, mostly sparrows this year, and getting the fleeting glimpse of our resident little owl.
Yesterday was lovely all day, if a bit humid at times. The evening did see a reduction in the humidity which was appreciated. The day itself had been non-stop sunshine with a few pretty clouds floating around causing no problems at all, even adding to the overall beauty of the sky. The usual afternoon breeze came and went, causing a few white horses in the channel, before dying away almost completely. We had a low key but pretty monochrome sunset progressing to a clear evening where the lights of Albania once more joined in with ours around the bay. Despite the drop in humidity it was still a balmy evening. The dew point during the day had got as high as 24°C, before dropping to a slightly better 21°C.
This photo was taken from the terrace at Ammos Grill on Wednesday night, it was a perfect night to enjoy a lovely meal whilst watching the sunset.
The temperature at 10.00am on Friday 21st. June 2019 was 25.2°C. Real feel 26°C and dew point 20°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 27.3°C (real feel 29°C), and the minimum was 20.8°C, a dew point of 21°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 26.5°C and the minimum 21.2°C. A day of sunshine and clouds and a heavy haze with no wind and a flat calm sea.
The reported UV for today is 9 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice). We have now reached that time of year were the sun cream has to appear, so easy to burn with this high UV.
DEW POINT Less than 10°C feels dry Between 10°C and 18°C Feels comfortable Between 18°C and 26°C Feels increasingly humid and uncomfortable. At the highest it is unhealthy and even fatal for people with asthma

Good morning from Roda. It is another glorious summer’s day here. We have blue skies with some elegant thin streaky clouds decorating the sky. There is a gentle breeze to ease the effect of the sun. The sea is calm and silent and looking so inviting. Breakfast on the north balcony watching the occasional hire boat slice the sea open with a roar of the engine, white wake in the rear. The gypsy selling ‘lovely Corfu Fru-it’ has just been down the lane, preceded by yet another tourist relying on Google maps. We watch the blind panic as they think they can’t get down the next narrow bit, then we are alternately amused by the incapacity of most of the drivers to turn a small car around in our wide-open gate or terrified they will end up in the ditch of crashing into the rocks that edge our garden. Many missing the deep ditches by a hair’s breadth. We have even had more than one car drop a wheel into it. You would think that when they ran out of something that could almost be called a road onto a narrow dirt track, they would turn back. Sorry, rant over for the day, and I haven’t even mentioned some idiots on quad bikes that think it is great fun charging down the lane spraying dirt and stones everywhere and destroying the peace not to mention its surface. We have even seen them put un-helmeted children in front and letting them drive!!
Yesterday was as close to a perfect day as it is possible to get. We had constant sunshine, barely a cloud dared show its face, and the breeze did its usual thing of gaining strength in the afternoon before fading away completely. The humidity, together with the heat might have been a strain for some, but the best way to deal with it is move slowly, or better still stay seated in the shade and drink loads of water and cool off in the pool or sea. The evening arrived via a very decent sunset. It was a clear starlit night with many lights from across the channel joining ours to give a picture-perfect image. We were left with some floppy waves after the afternoon breeze went. The humidity and haze were less but the dewpoint was still in the uncomfortable range. Bedroom fans or aircon were definitely needed.
The temperature at 10.00am on Saturday 22nd. June 2019 was 26.4°C. Real feel 28°C and dew point 19°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 28.3°C (real feel 30°C), and the minimum was 21.2°C, a dew point of 20°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 27.0°C and the minimum 22.0°CA sunny start before clouding over to the south and a single loud crack of thunder startling everyone sitting in the sun. Stayed clear over Roda with a thick haze obscuring Albania.

Good morning from Roda. We awoke to almost an entire covering of cloud but the sun had found its way through. There was the merest of breezes and a dead calm sea. It is still very warm, so the lack of sun shouldn’t make a difference. However, it got very dark and menacing towards Albania with the sea going the deep blue/ green colour that precedes a storm or rain. The dark clouds moved off to the west but left us with rain and a wind that got very strong very quickly. We had to run to get in washing and close the windows on the north side as the wind was coming from the south. Steve rushed into the garden to rescue plants blown over by the wind or in danger of. The balcony parasols had to be taken down. Funny thing though, the staff at Semeli were securing their parasols before it all kicked off. Needless to say, this was not forecast! It was supposed to be a day of sunshine with some clouds and no strong winds.
Yesterday was a lovely day with clear blue skies in the morning with a few streaky clouds littering the sky. However, as the day progressed these clouds multiplied to give us a complete covering at one point. They did have the decency to ease a bit to allow the sun the reappear in the late afternoon. There was a lovely sunset because of these residual clouds. The choppy seas that had been around outside of Roda eased to give a flat calm sea throughout the bay. The whole day had felt hot and humid and was only eased by the cooling temperatures of the evening. It was 25°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Sunday 23rd. June 2019 was 26.0°C. Real feel 27°C and dew point 19°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. It was quite breezy first thing, with the sea looking ruffled and noisy waves coming ashore. Albania was just a bare outline across the channel with a creamy topping of clouds on its mountains. The sky was fairly clear but was smeared with streaks of thin high cloud. We are due to get a very strong northerly wind this afternoon. A late report because we went to the spring at Xanthates to fill up our water bottles. Our attempt to cut down on the amount of plastic we generate. The spring water was so cold and fresh, it only took a few minutes to collect the 27L we had bottles for. There is a covered area there for washing clothes in the past. We only know the French word for it a ‘lavoire’, we find so many on our travels.
Yesterday was a bit of a strange day. It started off quite cloudy, and got very dark and ominous looking towards Albania, and we did get several very short minor showers of rain in the early afternoon. The pavements dried up almost immediately once the shower stopped. The rain bearing clouds drifted off towards the west leaving us still quite cloudy, but eventually the afternoon breeze whisked the last ones of them away and we were left with nice clear skies. The breeze cleared the air a bit and it felt cooler in the evening, as the humidity eased. There was another good sunset because of the clouds. It was a pleasant 24°C at 11.30pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Monday 24rd. June 2019 was 25.7°C. Real feel 27°C and dew point 19°C.

Weather Good afternoon from Roda. We have had a busy morning with it being our first 8am start with the re-cycling centre in Roda, after our shift we then went up the hill just passed Roda Beach to gather Kalami/ bamboo to make sticks for the garden. We get some very funny looks from passers-by as they see us cutting 3-4m lengths and then feeding them into our poor camper. It was a bit hot so we came home to change and immediately went out for some food as the hard work had made us hungry. It has been a lovely morning with clear blue skies and only a token one or two clouds to mar the otherwise pristine look. Albania was an outline across the lovely blue calm looking channel. However, we could hear and see waves inshore reaching the beach. There is a nice pleasant breeze to cool you down.
Yesterday was a lovely day here in Roda, hot and just slightly humid. There was a fair bit of high cloud over us, but the mainland had a significant quantity attached to the mountain tops. It got quite cloudy for a while in the afternoon before the breeze shifted it. The breeze in fact turned into quite a strong wind with my washing in danger of ending up in Ipsos on the other side of our mountains! The wind did die away as usual in the evening to give us enough cloud for a beautiful sunset. The evening was warm and balmy, perfect for dining al fresco. It was still a mild 25°C at 10.30pm.
The temperature at 7.30am on Tuesday 25th. June 2019 was 22.1°C. Real feel 23°C and dew point 17°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 26.8°C (real feel 29°C), and the minimum was 21.7°C, a dew point of 22°C.
The maximum temperature this day 2018 was 24.6°C and the minimum 19.8°C. A cloudy start to the day with steady gentle rain in the afternoon with a roll of thunder. Eased off before evening then started again with more thunder.

I would like to share this article from the Think Like the Locals FB site. It offers good information about how the locals deal with the heat and is also helpful to tourists.
Trivia: As the temperatures rise, the locals in the village still have to tend to their animals and care for their crops. This is something that doesn't change. What does change is the times chores are done in the summer. They get up at the crack of dawn and are finished weeding, watering and picking their produce by 11 in the morning. Then disappear until late evening, about 8, at which point, they'll go back to the fields until the sun sets. Here's some handy tips for visitors trying to deal with the heat. Always wear a hat, don't forget to put on sunscreen and drink a lot of water all day. Although on holidays, try to keep your alcohol consumption down during the day as it can contribute to dehydration.Don't forget the most dangerous part of the day in the sun is from 11 in the morning to 5 in the evening. And most importantly, if you find you are suffering from something you might consider 'flu-like' symptoms, you are probably suffering from sunstroke. Stay cool, drink lots of fluids and if the symptoms worsens, a trip to the doctor might not be a bad idea. Striving for the 'perfect' tan can ruin a holiday and you could end up in hospital. Play it is safe, like the locals and indulge in an afternoon nap for the hottest part of the day.

Good afternoon from Roda. It was a very warm start to the morning and getting hotter all the time aided and abetted by a hot wind that seemed to have come straight from the Sahara! We had a lot of thin high cloud that seemed to multiply as the morning wore on. It was humid first thing at getting stickier as the day wore on. Albania was a barely there presence on the horizon, huddling under a heavy cap of lumpy looking cloud. The sea looked calm and peaceful but our ears told us another thing as we could hear waves breaking on the shore.
Yesterday was a lovely summer’s day with constant wall to wall sunshine with the clouds never daring to make more than a token presence. There was a cooling breeze that eased the heat of the sun. It was strange in that both of noticed that the cicadas were singing as though they had been absent, weird. There was a fairly standard monochromatic sunset leading onto a clear starlit night

Janiemou flew off into the wild blue yonder this morning and has just landed at Bristol airport ... she'll be away a couple of weeks, checking out the weather around the UK.
Unlike this time last year, she's left us with a period of hot, calm weather in Roda, where the combined temperature & humidity are making it feel very 'sticky.' At 8am this morning, we woke to a large circular blanket of high cloud to the south & east, which started breaking off into little puffy things before retreating to the Balkans where it is welcome to stay. It's left us with a day of clear skies, albeit a shade more comfortable than yesterday.
Overnight, we dropped no lower than 23°C which made it muggy to say the least. During the day, we have risen to 29.5°C, over 1°C lower than yesterday. Real feel has pushed the comfort zone up a bit, feeling more like 33°C at the hottest time. Our favourite, Dew Point, has hovered betwween 18-22°C, a full two points more comfortable than yesterday during that spell of hot wind.

Yesterday's near perfect day is likely to be repeated today. Although the temperature is a bit lower this morning, the humidity is on the rise again and I would expect the dew point to go a little higher yet. Much depends on the breeze, of course, and this afternoon could be really pleasant if we get our normal north-easterly between 1-6pm.
The sunset last night saw this big orange ball sinking between the silhouttes of the western headland and Erikoussa in the distance. The sky was clear, the cameras were out all along the seafront and the beachside tables were full. It really was magnificent!
Overnight, we dropped to a bearable 22.6°C with a humidity of just 58%, but at 10 am this morning we were back up to 26°C, feeling like 27°C, as the humidity started climbing past 71%.Yesterday's near perfect day is likely to be repeated today. Yesterday started with cornflower blue skies & cicadas, in celebration of a good day to come. There was a late afternoon breeze which eased as soon as the sun started heading off for the night. After the orange extravaganza the day before, the cameras were out in advance at 9pm, waiting for a repeat performance. They were not disappointed! It's good to see visitors strolling back & to through the village at night, and these evenings are perfect for it. More & more people are eating later these days, at a time when the heat is fading and a leisurely meal is more enjoyable.
Yesterday peaked at 27.7°C, but feeling more like 31°C as the humidity rose to 74% - perfect holiday weather if you are by a pool or by the sea.
Overnight was more or less identical to the day before, as we dropped to 22.8°C with a humidity of 63%. The humidity has been constant ever since and, even though this morning's temperature is higher at 27.9°C, the dew point is the same at 20°C. The dew-point is our 'feelgood' factor and it's interesting to see it remain the same when temperatures & humidity are fluctuating.

Another identical night, give or take a fraction or two ... we're still starting each day right on the edge of the comfort zone, and only those up really early are feeling the dawn coolness. Saturday began with a calm sea edged with an inky border - it was calm inshore, but there was a sea breeze clearly in sight on the horizon. It took until 11am to reach the land, and it was very refreshing when it came. By 4pm, the temperature had actually started falling and clouds had developed over the sea by 8pm. These came inland at 9pm, but quickly disappeared as the day saw the last of its sunlight.
Overnight, our minimum temperature was 22.7°C and the humidity was 62% - almost exactly the same as the two previous nights. Because the humidity was lower at 63%, yesterday's higher maximum temperature of 29.6°C left us with a dew point of 23°C again ... so everything felt much the same.
Long may it continue!

Yesterday started with light waves lapping and early birds chirping - no pear trees and no partidges! By noon, there was a little cloud to the south which never came our way. The afternoon saw the humidity dropping like a stone and it was down to 54% at 4pm. The evening was more pleasant as a result, with vivid pink skies highlighting a purple skyline. What a great photo that would have been with six couples silhouetted crossing the bridge, the last fisherman wading in from his boat, and the texture of the dark stoney foreground. I didn't have a camera, but I stood & watched as the clours faded.
Overnight was a fraction more comfortable as the minimum temperature fell to 21.0°C at 60% humidity. I haven't checked, but I wondered if the air pressure had risen at some time as plastic bottles keep getting smaller! In the daytime, our temperature rose to 28.8°C with a humidity of 71%. It felt more like 32°C and the dew point, again, rose to 23°C - still a bit sticky but very consistent.

Monday started beautifully, with cockerels, cicadas and clear skies ... there was no doubting where we were. The day performed exactly as all holiday days should, a bit humid for some, but loved by everyone on the whole. By sunset, there was a hazy orange blanket over Italy to the north, which gave us yet another mood for the sunset photo fanatics.
The weather is so different this year, and there is talk amongst gardeners that there are simply not enough insects to pollinate the veggie flowers. There certainly seem to be less bees so far, although the bee-eaters have been much more noticable. Contrast that thought also with the fact that we have had swarms of butterflies in the last few weeks, far more than I have ever seen before. Walk through the wild thyme at Almiros and you will find yourself in a wonderland of 'Painted Ladies' - - walk through my cabbages and you won't fail to notice our dear friends, the 'Cabbage Whites.'
Maybe we need a change in the weather to restore things to their normal balance, but things are very stable still. Much as the night before, our minimum overnight was 21.2°C at 58% humidity - more comfortable by far. Yesterday's maximum reached 26.8°C, and the humidity was no higher than 72%. This gave us a Real Feel of 29°C with the dew point of 21°C being much closer to the 'comfort' line than we've had for a few days.

Yesterday began with ruffles .... ruffles across the sea, and ruffles in the leaves. The sea was not dead calm, but neither were there waves, and our cooling breeze was doing its job of looking after us. Naturally, things hotted up later as both temperature and humidity tried to outdo Monday's levels. Tuesday won, by a short head and we edged a little nearer to 'muggy' than the day before. The evening brought out a rash of summer frocks, carefully packed and de-creased for the occasion of strolling and dining as the sun sets.
The minimum overnight edged up to 21.4°C, but with a much higher humidity than the night before (72%). At 7:30 yesterday morning, the dew point was a refreshing 16°C, but by the time we'd finished at the recycling centre, it was up to 21°C and starting to feel hot. Our maximum yesterday was 26.9°C, feeling like 29°C, with humidity touching 75%.
