Just 26 cases in Corfu in last 7 days (and only 6 on the last 4 days of the week). Really encouraging sign. Just need some visitors here and places open...........I walked to ALexandros (Golden sands) yesterday....Robella closed....Roda Beach about 15 in sea and I see about another 20 or so walking past. Just 5 in taverna at lunchtime (incl me and a local Greek couple)......walk to Alexandros in Roda and I only customer although there were four using sunloungers. About 10 at Pirates all other places along front not yet open though New Port were getting ready and Skouna were preparing and measuring out ready to set out sun loungers (and looking where they had put in poles I think they are going too near the sea......(thought there was meant to be a 5 metre gap at least). Very few tourists walking about......so sad for the locals who are open. Sandy was having Tony singing last night....I hope she got some customers along......I was only one there in early afternoon. Hopefully with Covid down we will get some more tourists soon but basically it is down to the UK and their quarantine Rules as to whether Roda gets a good end to the season.

Hi Dave and Paula, checking things today it appears that the 'no quarantine for double vaccinations' hasn't been implemented yet. It looks almost certain to be implemented in late July though. Well as certain as we can be in this pandemic. So, it is looking as though I won't get back to celebrate my daughter's and my big birthdays in three weeks. I am sure we are all keeping everything crossed for a sensible way forward with a negative test and double vaccinations meaning no quarantine.

Just to let you know how the vaccination program against Covid is going in Greece. It did get off to a very shaky start with a problem with the supply of the vaccine and only 3 centres across the island operating. This has since picked up dramatically as the government wanted all adults to have had a vaccination by the end of July to protect the tourist season.
These are yesterday's figures from the official Greek government site.
Greece has approximately a population of 11 million people Up to date there had been 7,925,253 vaccinations done. 4,678,468 have had at least 1 dose and 3,461,165 have had 2 doses. Some of the single dose people will have received the Johnson and Johnson single jab. They are now vaccinating the over 18's. Here on Corfu they have set up many pop-up places for vaccinations including a big sports hall in town.
It must have been a big task with so many islands to deal with, but the numbers are looking good. Those vaccinated can get a certificate from the pharmacy or by going on line. Mine is printed in both English and Greek.

And meanwhile the cases on the Island and in Greece as a whole are still dropping. Just 18 new cases on Corfu in the last 7 days and 8 of them were on one day. In the whole of Greece just 2,630 new cases in last week but there were 133 deaths.

We’ve been trying to work out how to drive to Corfu in our motorhome but the different border crossings and restrictions in different countries are a nightmare to understand so it looks like a long wait to fly out as our flights have already been cancelled 3 times by Jet2 who will not fly to amber countries. Does anyone know any airline that is flying out at all ?

Ryan Air - or go via Athens, which sometimes actually works out cheaper - good luck

EasyJet from Gatwick or Manchester is still flying as I recently flew back with them Maudy.BA to Athens or even use Olympic from Heathrow to Corfu via Athens and they handle the baggage. I know about the difficulties of the journey using the motorhome when me and my son travelled back last autumn. We came to the UK via Italy, through Switzerland (no getting out of the camper), into Germany, which was OK then. Then a dash for the Chunnel via Belgium and France(again no getting out of the camper). Aachen in Germany is the closest point in Germany to Calais. Hope you do find your way here by whatever means. Well despite the controversy at the moment I decided I was booking no matter what and hopefully will be in Roda on the 16th for 3 weeks and if things do get worse and go red we will stay until it’s not , well that’s what I told Tony and he’s in total agreement , he just doesn’t know it 🤣

Oh dear Covid is on the rise again in Greece now..........not sure if it has anything to do with Delta strain. New cases in Greece for week were 4752 which is over 80% increase. On the plus side deaths were down to just 61.
Not many of the cases were linked to tourists arriving either at boarder entries or airports. However it seems the average age of these new cases is just 27 so it may have something to do with easing of rules re masks and people now forgetting to social distance.
Lets hope it is a blip and not leading to something worse and a return to lockdowns just as the holiday season is hoping to pick up a bit.

Change made: The FCDO no longer advises against all but essential travel to the whole of Greece, including all the Greek Islands, based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.
Time updated: 5:35pm, 8 July 2021

And when cases are on the rise still in Greece and Corfu............in Greece now in the thousands daily (2107 yesterday) and on Corfu 15.
Some areas are already insisting sit down in bars, tavernas etc only. Cyprus has done that. Expect changes in Greece too shortly.
On the plus side Injection rates are higher in the Ionians than anywhere in Greece.

Disappointing figures from Greece in last 7 days..................just over 12,300 new cases in Greece and 79 in Corfu (was 30 week before) with 26 of them yesterday! They are doing rapid flow tests on some arrivals at airport but I dont know if that is reason for increase or not.
There were 53 deaths in the week which is a slight decrease.
Greece are close to announcing that any restrictions they place due to covid will only apply to non vaccinated people. They are working on an app that can be shown to venue owners to allow you admission where they only allow vaccinated people. My concern is what if you dont own an iphone! Also showing a phone app doesn't in itself prove it is yours as venue owner may not know your name, id etc. So would you also have to show passport. Guess all will be revealed very soon.
