We are staying in Acharavi in May for 2 weeks but I'm enjoying the helpfulness of this forum. This is our first visit to Corfu although not the Greek islands. We enjoy walking so any suggestions gratefully received. I understand we are at one end of the Corfu trail. Do people have their favourite parts we should also walk? Any suggestions for tavernas that serve good vegetarian dishes also gratefully received. I love moussaka and gemista. Looking forward to my next Greek birthday holiday. Gills

Welcome to the forum, gills - there is a book on the Corfu Trail and there are lots of people we know who walk regularly. We'll try to get more details.
As you will know from other islands, Greeks love vegetables. Most restaurants will have some vegetarian dishes even though they may not be labelled as such. In any case, the majority of local restaurants are owner-run which means you only have to ask for what you want and it will be arranged. We often do this, and many of our meals are a selection of mezes - no need to look for main courses ... eat like the locals.

Hi gills,
You can find more details of walks in these three books:
- 'Walking & Trekking on Corfu' by Gillian Price
- 'Corfu Tour & Trail Map' by David & Ros Brown
- 'Walking the Corfu Trail' by John Waller
The first one is the most recent and all are available on Amazon.
There are a couple of ladies who organise walks in the winter, but most people are working in the summer months.

Still hoping to visit Corfu. Our May holiday is now booked for late September/early October. What is the weather like at this time of year? Still good for walking? Thanks

Yes very good for walking............we do however usually get some thunderstorms in September and October............they are heavy but only last hour or so then clear to sun. Often they are at night or in the early hours too. October can be good.........we usually have an Indian Summer during October for up to 3 weeks. So bring waterproofs just in case; jumpers/jackets for the evenings. The sea is still warm then too (more so than in UK) so swimming is still good though the pools will be cold after the first storms..........

Thanks. I will miss the spring flowers but a warmer sea will make a change.

Well after the rains in September we get other flowers coming out.....the wild pick cyclamen is first and you will likely see them on the verges and in the olive groves.

TUI unexpectedly cancelled our holiday yesterday. We have the option to change to Theodore resort in Roda for September. Looking at trip advisor this gets good reviews. Will see what they offer us when we finally get to talk to them.

The Theodoros resort in Roda is a good choice, big pool plenty of sunbeds, space and friendly staff. A quiet corner of Roda with lovely views and still just over 5 minutes walk to anywhere. My family have either stayed there or Angelina across the road for the last 10 years or more Jan

TUI are only flying 3 days a week from UK and from just a few airports. They are trying to get fuller planes and accommodation that way to save on their losses. Its just economics to them but its peoples holidays they are playing with......Having said that te way things are going here with new cases from tourists (and with Brits due from next week) we could well be back in lockdown and most flights cancelled by September the way things are going.
Jan will get back to you re the blocks at Theos as she knows the apartments much better than I do.

We could come from Gatwick a day earlier but it would cost another £250 each! I don't think we will be coming until next year now. I hope the tourists don't bring too many cases into Corfu.

Sorry for the late reply, your post got pushed down by another one and I missed it. Right, originally the Fiona apartments were with Olympic holidays (in fact I'm fairly sure the Theodoros ones were as well, but not swearing to it) and the Theodoros ones were with Thomas Cook. The Fiona apartments are across a narrow road to the Theodoros and are comfortably equipped. The Thomas Cook ones were all modernised over a couple of years and are all around the pool. This year the Fiona apartments are not being opened, and the others are with Thomson Small and Friendly. Where ever your accommodation is you will have a great holiday in this very friendly little complex.

Thanks. We have booked for next May and are staying at the Coral beach hotel. I hope that tourists don't bring covid19 to Corfu and we will look forward to coming next year.
