Good morning from Roda. We seem to be in a long, settled period of hot and sunny summer weather. Today seems to be no exception, with a cloudless sky and barely a breath of wind. The sea was a pale blue with a heavy mist trying to hide the mainland, first thing, but as the day progresses it is assuming its usual turquoise and deep blue mantle. The temperature rises quite quickly, getting from 21°C at 6am to 25°C by 10am. A day for taking it easy, so why have I decided that today is the day for cleaning the tops of the kitchen cupboards!!!
Yesterday stayed hot and sunny all day with the afternoon heat mitigated by the afternoon breeze. It stayed cloudless but still managed to produce a truly stunning sunset with bands of deep orange merging into the darkening sky. It was a balmy evening with the sky decorated with its moon and stars. There were plenty of lights around the bay to add to the magic that is Roda. Fireworks lit up the late evening sky, so some lucky couple had got married here. What a place to start a married life. It was a tropical 25°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 10am on Thursday 30th July was 25.4°C, real feel 27°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 27.0°C (real feel 28°C (feeling humid) and the minimum was 20.3°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 26.9°C and the minimum 23.4°C, a clear day with clouds over mainland, a breeze gave white horses but cleared clouds away. A very warm night.
The reported UV for Today is 9 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around and around the summer solstice). Heavy duty sunscreen essential.

Good morning from Roda. Summer continues, though there is a forecast of a thunderstorm next week, but that’s a long way off and may never happen. It was slightly warmer this morning after quite a warm night, tourists would have been thankful for the aircon, me, I stirred, thought about putting the fan on and went back to sleep as it was too much effort! The night time temperature only dropped to 21°C before rising quite quickly to 25°C. The haze is such that Albania is barely registering on the horizon, there is a cloudless sky, barely a breeze and a flat calm sea. It is going to be so hot out in that sun.
Yesterday was yet another perfect summer’s day, which I spent the best part of cleaning my kitchen cupboard tops. I feel very virtuous though having done it, it looks quite bare now so will have to get a few things back up there. It stayed a calm day with just a stirring of a breeze in the afternoon, which cleared most of the haze away. My friends and I sat and watch a lovely sunset from the Ammos Grill. Some threads of clouds had appeared which gave interest and I’m afraid my photos don’t do it justice. It was a lovely warm evening causing us to linger over the meal and then a drink at Skouna, before I wended my way home via The Coral and a quick drink and a chat to Adonis. The moon was still waxing amongst a scattering of stars and a multitude of lights around the bay and the channel. It was a balmy 25°C at 11.30pm.
The temperature at 10am on Friday 31st July was 25.1°C, real feel 27°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 28.0°C (real feel 28°C (feeling humid) and the minimum was 20.3°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 27.2°C and the minimum 22.7°C, a clear day with a scattering of clouds mostly over mainland.

Good morning from Roda, and kalo mena for August. Somebody opened the oven door and forgot to close it here. The coolest temperature during the night was a steamy 24°C, with the midnight temperature a very balmy 27°C!!! I opened all the windows and doors to try and get some of the breeze in to cool the house, but the breeze is warm even though it is coming from the usual north east. There is a lot of haze with the mainland hiding behind it. The breeze when it stirs is very warm, but the sea is blue and calm. On Monday and Tuesday, the wind is forecast to be coming from the south so it will feel very warm and the thunderstorms are expected on Wednesday. So glad I did the cleaning yesterday would have been way too hot to do it today. Have plans to get to a pool and stay there this afternoon.
Yesterday stayed very warm all day, though my north balcony did remain a refuge from the heat for most of the day until the sun crept round in the late afternoon. The afternoon breeze was strong enough to give a choppy sea and small white horses in the channel. There was a standard gorgeous sunset followed by a clear moonlit and starlit sky. It was so warm walking back from the village around 9pm, perfect for al fresco dining. I must admit though I had mine on my knee watching the tele! It was a very warm 27°C at midnight.
The temperature at 10am on Saturday 1st August was 28.6°C, real feel 30°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 30.2°C (real feel 32°C (feeling humid) and the minimum was 21.9°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 29.0°C and the minimum 23.1°C, a very hazy humid day with clear skies and only the afternoon breeze to bring relief.

Anybody who was an early riser would have wondered where the sun had gone, as we had quite a cloud covering. You get used to waking to clear and mostly cloudless skies so this morning was a bit of a shock. We had a warm night, though not as warm as the previous one with the midnight temperature a balmy 26°C and it didn’t drop below 23°C. It has remained hazy with the mainland only indicated by residual clouds over its peaks. The early morning breeze has strengthened considerably as the morning progresses giving a nice cooling effect.
Yesterday was so hot and so humid it would have been uncomfortable for some people with chest problems. Even my usually cool balcony didn’t give me any respite. The afternoon breeze brought some relief and large waves coming into the bay. The breeze also brought clouds with it, and by early evening we had lost half the sky to them, though it didn’t seem to do much to the heat! I sought the cool of a pool at the end of the afternoon when there are less people in it. The clouds added interest to a hazy but beautiful sunset. There were enough gaps in the evening clouds to allow the moon and some stars to make their presence felt. The evening remained very warm and humid with the temperature a very warm 26°C at mid-night.
The temperature at 10am on Sunday 2nd.August was 27.0°C, real feel 29°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 31.0°C (real feel 36°C (feeling extremely humid) and the minimum was 24.2°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 30.2°C and the minimum 23.4°C, a cloudless, hazy and sunny day, with gentle breezes and a calm sea with the haze clearing in the evening.

After another very warm night we awoke to clear skies and a thick haze that just about succeeded in hiding the mainland from view. The calm sea was streaked different shades of blues due to the play of wind on its surface. As the morning aged small cotton wool balls of clouds appeared to decorate the sky and the wind stiffened to such an extent that I had to close the front door as everything went flying. It is a very warm and humid start to the day, but the wind will make it a bit more tolerable. I got very hot getting all Steve’s feta tins into the camper to take to the re-cycling. It took me two trips, but it needed to be done as we are due rain by tomorrow evening.
Yesterday was hot, sunny and humid all day once those early morning clouds had gone. Relief could be found on the beach by taking advantage of the prevailing breeze. We sat in Skouna and watched a super yacht motor into the bay and a group of ten people came ashore in their dingy. They didn’t even try and dock in the harbour, mind you it has got very shallow in there now. The evening didn’t really give any relief from the heat, not the best night for walking up to the cemetery to keep Steve abreast of all the news. I bumped into the Clayton family coming to the end of their meal at Nikos family taverna, so I joined them for a glass of wine and a catch up. It was a warm 26°C at midnight, with a clear sky and a full moon and a few of the brighter stars, and it didn’t cool much during the small hours.
The temperature at 10am on Monday 3rd August was 26.5°C, real feel 29°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 27.2°C (real feel 29°C (feeling humid) and the minimum was 23.2°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 28.2°C and the minimum 22.8°C, a cloudless, hazy and sunny day, with gentle breezes and a calm sea with clouds coming down the mountains behind us, before clearing to give a starlit evening.

We must make the most of today’s sunshine because the forecast rain is still due to happen overnight and tomorrow. It was a slightly cooler night, but the temperature soon reached almost 26°C by 10am this morning. We have cloudless skies, a flat calm pale blue sea and barely a breath of wind. Albania has slightly emerged from the haze to give us a hint of ridges and valleys. It is not unusual for the haze to be so profound that people have had two whole weeks here and not known that the mainland was so close, or even there. Mind you we have had people ask if Roda was on the shore of a lake, and were even amazed Corfu was an island. And we have been met with total bafflement when we said that we drove here. It is a very generalistic statement to say that some ladies do the booking of the holidays and their men just come along not entirely sure where they are.
Yesterday was a mostly hot and sunny day, with clear skies with only a very occasional cottonwool cloud drifting across. The breeze did get a lot stronger a one point, resulting in banging door and me rushing to shut the front door before there was any damage. But it all settled down again and normal service was resumed. The haze lifted a bit and we had a very smudged sunset. But the star of the day was the full August moon rising in a golden globe behind the mountains between us and Ipsos. There were few stars around to compete with such a show. It was a balmy and windless evening with a flat calm sea, and bathers taking full advantage of the warm water and swimming well into the evening. It was one of those evenings when I set out to join friends in the village and I got no further than the Boathouse. Dave and Paula from the forum stopped me and we enjoyed a couple of G&T’s on Jon’s lovely terrace, then I joined long-time friends Joan and Arthur before belatedly heading home to video chat to my family. It was about the third time I have tried to get into the village in the evening and failing badly. The late temperature by the end of the night was still 25°C.
The temperature at 10am on Tuesday 4th August was 25.5°C, real feel 27°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 29.6°C (real feel 33°C (feeling humid) and the minimum was 23.8°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 27.2°C and the minimum 23.5°C, a cloudless, hazy and sunny day, with a strong breeze for a while in the late afternoon, followed by a clear starlit night.

Good afternoon from Roda. It is a late report because we had that threatened thunderstorm this morning. It was a very warm and muggy night, and I certainly needed the fan to keep cool. I was just stirring when the first huge bang of thunder finished the job off. The rain was torrential, and even though I shut the French windows I still had small floods in both the bedroom and the lounge. I got wet just rescuing my thermometer from beside the door. I could hear Steve telling me off for not removing the cushions of the outdoor furniture last night. They are soaked and are propped up, hopefully drying against the balcony railings. There were reports around the island of hail stones, and it was reported that the north of the island was experiencing 170 lightning strikes an hour. The thunder and lightning just seemed to be continuous at one point. The wind was wild for most of the storm and the sea was lashing the shore with constant big waves. It went very dark during the storm and I needed to put the lights on. For safety I unplugged computers, router and the TV aerial. Then it all died away and the clouds melted, the wind went and the sea calmed down completely. By Mid-day you could say ‘what storm’, apart from the fact that all the businesses were mopping out and there was standing water. The storm eased the haze considerably and the temperature has dropped to the low 20’s, but feeling very steamy with all the evaporating rain water.
Yesterday, was a bit of a mixed bag with the clouds. We started off with the usual clear skies and haze towards the mainland. We had a spell of strong wind from the south around mid-day whipping the trees before fading away. Then the clouds started building up to make it dull for a while before they too mostly faded away, but not enough to give a good sunset. The evening saw mostly clear skies, with a reduction of the haze but an increase in the humidity, and only the merest of breezes. It felt very humid with the temperature 26°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 10am on Wednesday 5th August was 19.2°C, real feel 19°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 30.9°C (real feel 33°C (feeling humid) and the minimum was 22.1°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 26.7°C and the minimum 21.7°C, a mostly cloudless and sunny day feeling a bit cooler, with enough clouds around to give a brilliant sunset.

Yesterday there was an almighty thunderclap (sounded like an explosion) at 8:20am. Turned out it was the power circuit being blown in Sfakera. There were without power until nearly 10pm last night.....the Neon had to have its freezer with ice creams and food removed elsewhere to save the stock! Most houses were also without water. I am just outside village so come under Platonas and was unaffected by the powercut or water supply. Still had my garden (except my veggie plots) flooded; some beans blown over and dogs balcony blankets waterlogged.........so the afternoon was spent clearing up and drying out. Its always a bit worse when you get such a big storm after no rain for a while.....last rains before was 5 minutes on 5th July.....last proper shower of any note was on 8th June.....so the ground if not watered meantime becomes compact and floods easily.

Good afternoon from Roda. A late report as I was out for coffee with a group of ladies that is getting a regular event. Several nationalities are amongst us but we all enjoy a good natter. It was another cool night with the dawn temperature around 21°C . We had a beautiful start to the day with pink tinged speckled clouds across the sky melting away as the heat increased. There was a ruffled sea with noisy waves coming ashore, and the usual haze masking the mainland. Thunder storms were forecast but we had blue skies when we started with our coffees and teas with homemade black forest gateau, but we were soon chased inside by increasingly heavy rain. Soon the villa was being battered by torrential rain and we were being deafened by the thunder and blinded by the lightning. The villa was on the slopes near Saint Spiridon beach. The storm was passing as we left with the rain having stopped, but we called in at Acharavi and it was still drizzling, but had stopped by the time we got to Roda. I don’t think Roda had nearly as much rain as we had because I didn’t need to wade along the stepping stones to get home. My cushions left out on the balcony were still dry. However, I can still hear distant thunder, so the storm hasn’t quite finished yet.
Yesterday, after the spectacular thunderstorm, the skies quickly to their usual bright blue, with clouds mostly melting away. The wind dropped to a barely there gentle breeze, and the waves very quickly dropped to gentle ripples leaving piles of debris across roads and paths near the sea. The temperature climbed from the low 20’s to the high 20’s feeling very much like a sauna due to all the evaporating rain water. The haze never returned to its normal coverage of the mainland, but with increasing clouds at dusk there was only a very indifferent hazy sunset. The evening was warm and very humid, with the late evening temperature 24°C.
The temperature at 10am on Thursday 6th August was 24°C, real feel 25°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 27.6°C (real feel 32°C (feeling extremely humid) and the minimum was 19.1°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 27.4°C and the minimum 20.1°C, a mostly cloudless and sunny day with a strong afternoon breeze.

Am thankful for the rain as I need to did up some plants before they get the tractor on the garden.

Yesterdays storm was most odd; I was sat at the Neon and the thunder, lightning and clouds passed towards Acharavi way and then they returned being pushed back from the NE and dumped a heavy but fairly short thunderstorm upon us. It now seems that the air is cleared and more normal summer weather can resume.

Good morning from Roda. It had all the prospects of being another lovely day when I peered bleared eyed out of the windows this morning. We had blue skies dotted with pretty white clouds, with the bulk of the clouds stuck over the mainland, which was mostly hiding in the usual haze. I could hear gentle waves coming it ashore and there was just a slight breeze to ruffle the surface of the sea. However, we are getting a build-up of clouds to the south east over Ipsos which is starting to mask the sun. To the north we still have clear skies. It was a cooler, more comfortable night, and the day is staying just that little bit cooler. Still lovely and hot without that oppressive humid feel to it.
Yesterday, after the heavy rain, hail in some places, thunder and lightning, the rest of the day turned out to be service as normal. I think than to the east of Roda towards Kassiopi they did have heavy rain for much longer, with the storm seeming to be circling overhead. Once the rain had stopped it did feel very steamy and sauna like for a while with the heat and the fast evaporating water. There were still plenty of clouds around to give a pretty, but hazy, sunset. It was a pleasantly warm evening, perfect for al fresco dining, or pleasant strolls along the beach front or around the village. It was a pleasant 23.5°C as we approached midnight.
The temperature at 10am on Friday 7th August was 24°C, real feel 24°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 26.7°C (real feel 29°C (feeling humid) and the minimum was 21.2°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 26.8°C and the minimum 20.1°C, a cloudless and slightly less hazy day feeling a little less humid.

Good morning from Roda. We had quite a cool night, waking to a pretty dawn, partly hidden from me by the bulk of my next-door neighbour’s house. The sea is calm a pretty blue and has gentle waves coming ashore and we have the merest of breezes. The sky is streaked with quite a lot of thin high cloud across the whole sky. It was a cooler night with a fresh feeling to the morning, with the temperature just reaching 23°C by 10am.
Yesterday started off very well with mostly clear skies and gentle winds and waves. However, we saw a build up of clouds steadily during the morning into the afternoon to give a cloudy spell, when we even had a few drops of rain and distant rumbles of thunder around 3 to 4 o’ clock. Then the weather saw sense and the clouds melted away to give a very pleasant end to the day. There were enough residual clouds to give a very pretty. It was a warm evening ending the day at a pleasant 24°C.
The temperature at 10am on Saturday 8th August was 23.3°C, real feel 23°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 25.6°C (real feel 27°C and the minimum was 20.3°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 26.9°C and the minimum 20.1°C, a cloudless and sunny day with some clouds later on.

Good afternoon from Roda. It is Sunday, when I go for breakfast/ brunch with friends like I did when Steve was here. One of the few things I still do that we did as a couple. We normally follow it with a coffee of cold drink, depending on the season, at Skouna. I am also having problems with the internet dropping out at the least excuse. Back to the weather; after a cool night we awoke to a very calm morning with an almost complete covering of cloud. There was barely a breath of wind, and the sea looked flat with the gentle sound of breaking waves reaching me on the balcony. The heat soon started increasing and the clouds melted away, quickly giving up the fight.
Yesterday started off very nice indeed, with nothing to predict anything other another lovely hot summer’s day. I enjoyed a little trip to Kassiopi to give the camper a run and to have a few hours away from Roda. I didn’t realise that the ferry to Italy came so close to Kassiopi , usually they are much further out in the channel. The photo of the harbour just shows what a lovely day it was and how pretty Kassiopi is. The black dots in the last photoa was a flock of crows flying over the harbour.
I left There around 3pm to do my Saturday shopping in Acharavi on the wat home. It was only once I got home I could see the cloud gathering from the mainland with low rumbles of thunder and lightning in the clouds. It got increasingly closer and louder with the sea turning a beautiful emerald green before the rain started. Gently at first then getting very heavy indeed, so that by 6 it was chucking it down. It was all over by 7pm with the clouds gradually going, leaving enough for a lovely sunset, that the photo doesn’t do justice. The rain however left it quite a cool night, with stars glowing in the mostly clear sky, and the late evening temperature a lowly 21.6°C.
The temperature at 10am on Sunday 9th August was 25°C, real feel 26°C.
Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 26.0°C (real feel 28°C (feeling humid) and the minimum was 20.0°C. This day last year the maximum temperature was 26.9°C and the minimum 20.1°C, a sunny day getting cloudier towards evening.
