Good morning from Sfakera where we had a heavy shower at 6am that cleared in an hour leaving grey clouds everywhere, the sea looks calm, a light breeze but still no sign of Albania. Cooler being 10c at 9am.
Yesterday can be summed up by Google. When i log in my tablet shows Corfu weather, usually says sunny, showers, cloudy etc yesterday it said 'dreary'!! The forecasted weather had been windy, very wet and cool, even low as 5c in northern mainland yet 33c in crete, a massive 28c difference in temperature caused by a strange weather phenomenon. Well it didn't happen as the strong winds brought the warm Sahara air all the way north but they also brought sand. Here we had wind, poor visibility and sand all day, had to wash car windows before i could go out! (In crete everywhere was orange, roads, cars, sky - health warnings issued to stay indoors if heart or respiratory problems, high numbers going to Dr or Hospital. Same to lesser extent in Athens and other towns and cities). At 4.30pm we had a light shower and the sandy sky started to clear, finally i could see the sea from my balcony. At about 7 there was a very heavy shower for around an hour that cleaned cars and cleared away all the sand. When it stopped you could feel the sudden temperature drop. After nightfall there was odd glimpse of moon and some stars as the clouds were passing.
The maximum temperature was 19.9c, the minimum was 10.5c.

Good morning from Sfakera where it is another grey start to the day with near full cloud cover. A short sharp shower around 7.30am that started with hailstones. Still we cannot see Albania. It feels cold, mainly due to drop in temperature from few days ago, being 8.6c at 8am. The sea looks calm, there being almost no breeze.
Yesterday saw a change in the weather following the clearing of the sandy air and the disappearance of the southerly wind. Cloudy all day, just the odd hint of sun trying to break through, a light wind. The temperature hardly changed all day and it felt cold being over 8c cooler than the previous day. Late afternoon and early evening there were a couple short light showers. By 8pm the clouds were clearing, apart from over the hills, to give a starlit night but not as clear as usual.
The day was notable due to the arrival of swallows, there were several dozen flying around over the olive groves late afternoon.
The maximum temperature was 11.5c, the minimum was 9.5c.

Good morning from Sfakera. I hope you have remembered to move your clocks 1 hour forwards.
It is a chilly start to the day with a light breeze and clouds, lighter in colour than of late and a hint of drizzle in the air. As people make their way to Church to celebrate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, they pray the day stays at least dry for the parade to Celebrate Greek Independence Day at midday in Acharavi.
Yesterday was a cloudy day with light winds. Short light showers during the morning. Late afternoon it brightened and we had some sun, before a sharp shower. Then sun again passing through bands of grey clouds tinted purple as it slowly set. Shortly after there was a longer, heavier shower. After nightfall it cleared to a starlit sky, some cloud. Strangly as i popped out at 9.30pm there was cloud shining in my headlights along the road from the village.
The maximum temperature was 13.2c, the minimum 8.3c.

Good morning from a very wet Sfakera. A thunderstorm began just before midnight and continued until nearly 6am. It was heavy rain, hail, thunder, very heavy rain then lull before cycle repeated. Lots of surface water and flooded gardens and fields today. Last shower was finished about 8.45am and it is brightening but still 95% cloud cover, hint of sun at Agros on the coast and here now. Sea looks grey hut calm, Albania still invisible. 11.5c at 9am.
Yesterday the Greek Independence Day Parades were mostly washed out. Light morning rains and full on shower from 11.45 locally, the Band did march playing from the Church to the Town Hall but no full parade, sad as all the children looked so smart be they in school uniform or traditional costumes. Rains did cesse during afternoon but it remained mainly grey with hint of sun. It soon darkened and around 6.30pm we had a thunderstorm still ongoing as i drove to airport at 7.30pm. In Town the rains had stopped, big puddles everywhere and very windy causing delays of up to hour on flights - the planes having to circle till a lull in winds, drop in quickly and come in low from the Town end of runway. My trip home was mainly dry and north of Trompeta the roads had dried in places, still full cloud cover and some distant lightning hinting at what was to come. By the time i had made a cuppa, checked friends flight still ok at delayed time it was raining here, turning into a thunderstorm by 11.45pm.
The maximum temperature was 13.8c, the minimum was 8.2c.

Good morning from Sfakera where today it is grey but the visibility so much improved, Albania is visible with plenty fresh snow on the peaks we can see, cloud covers others and is also low into some valleys. Here we had rains at 1.30am and a drizzle shower around 7.30am. It has cleared to 90% cloud, hint of breeze but B5-6 forecast for later, and bright but no sun. 11.9c as we approach 9am.
Yesterday after the stormy night it did clear, remained mainly grey but there was odd sunny interval and odd spots of rain. A light wind picked up but the air was warmer. A light shower around 5.30pm, then some late sun before it clouded over and a heavier shower came at 7.30pm for about an hour. It remained cloudy the rest of the evening and night.
The maximum temperature was 16.0c, the minimum was 10.2c.
Elsewhere the Sahara sand is again moving north bringing warmer air, currently up around Athens, Crete is orange again. One odd result of the previous sandy air has been orange snow falling in Bulgaria, Moldova, Croatia, Ukraine and Russia. Apparently it is not as rare as it sounds, happening on average every 5 years.

Good morning from Sfakera where it is a lovely start to the day. Cloudless apart from the Albanian peaks, mind you Albania was hidden early by a haze that is clearing fast. Just a hint of breeze and the sun is up and for the first day in ages tv weather only shows the sun over Corfu. 10.5c at 10am.
Yesterday we had a second morning shower, fairly light. Once this cleared a wind came that soon drove the clouds away. By early afternoon it was almost cloudless and the sun was warming up giving a glorious afternoon and early evening, big and orange as it set behind the trees outside my house. As night fell so the stars became visible along with a bright half moon. By midnight as i strolled home from the Taverna after watching football there were a few high light clouds around which the moon shone through, and there was a chill in the air as the temperature dropped.
The maximum temperature was 17.9c, the minimum 11.5c.
If the weather stays like this we will start to see the spring cleaning in gardens, fields and houses. Finally the potatoes can be planted, the gardens tidied ready for the early vegetables, walls whitewashed, windows cleaned, rugs out to dry having heen cleaned ready to put away. Of course we will start to see hotels, appartments, tavernas and shops preparing to open for the season, painting, cleaning, supplies arriving etc. Most wont open until the beginning of May, some may open briefly over Easter but now is the time to prepare and get ready for the tourists.
There is a clean up of the beach at Roda planned for 15th April. A plea for all Roda residents and those with businesses to help make it ready for the summer.
Here in Sfakera we have first arrivals to their holiday houses or visiting friends, flights from UK being so cheap at moment. This will increase as we approach Easter.

Good morning from Sfakera where it is a fresh, slightly chilly, still almost cloudless start to the day. The odd whispy white high cloud can be seen but the sun is up and slowly it is warming. The sea has calmed overnight, the snow capped Albanian peaks glisten in the sun. It is approaching 9c as we near 9.30am.
Yesterday the haze quickly cleared to give a fine sunny start with a light breeze. Slowly clouds formed, white and fluffy later thin white strips of cloud but never affecting the sun. The breeze became a light wind and during the afternoon picked up to B4-6 making it feel cooler than it was. The whitetops began to appear and got bigger and more prolific as the day passed. After another yellow sunset the temperature started to fall away quicker due to the winds, but they too soon started to ease as we were treated to a fine starlit night.
The maximum temperature was 17.2c, and the minimum was 9.1c.

Good morning from Sfakera where it is a milder start, a breeze, layers of thin white clouds, a calm blue sea and the sun rising, highlighting the snowy peaks of Albania. At 8am it was 12.2c.
Yesterday was a glorious sunny day, the odd white fluffy clouds formed and dispersed without affecting the sun. A breeze that had just the odd gust mid afternoon but never really became windy, certainly no whitetops were in view. A day of the sound of strimming as people clear up for summer, an evening of smoke filled skies as the waste branches, grass is burnt, the last official day for bonfires being tomorrow. As night fell so the stars came out accompanied buy a bright moon.
The maximum temperature was 21.1c, the minimum was 7.8c.

Good morning from Sfakera where we have a warm start with wwinds and almost complete high cloud cover, just sun showing on the highest snowy Albanian peak. Despite winds the sea hss no whitetops and looks relatively calm. It was 18.3c at 9am.
Yesterday was sun all the way, passing white fluffy clouds were few in number and didnt interfere. By late morning the wind picked up gusting F3-4 but it was warm. Afternoon saw a cover of smoke over the olive groves between me and the coast as bonfires seemed everywhere. Sounds of strimming and cultivating dominated. A layer of clouds to the west interrupted the setting sun but it was still a nice sunset, with purple edges to the cloud. As night fell so the wind picked up to F4, gusting up to 7 at times, bringing in the clouds. The combination of cloud cover and warm wind kept the temperature up. These stronger winds kept up all night, so sleep was accompanied by rattling of shutters, the rustling trees and bamboos. It did start to ease after 6.30am.
The maximum temperature was 22.2c, the minimum was 16.8c.

Kala Mina and Happy Easter (to those eho celebrate this weekend) from Sfakera. During the night the winds died down and the bank of clouds passed, now sitting over Albania with hig white fluffy tops but hiding the coast and peaks completely. The sun is up, the sea almost calmed and a light wind gives a freshness to the air though it is 14.8c at 8.30am.
Yesterday the winds cleared the clouds but they got stronger as the day went bye. It was a sunny day with passing white clouds. Early winds F4 gusting 6. These got stronger and in Acharavi at 6pm there were gusts up to F8 but the band bravely carried on with their parade, despite sand and grit being blown by the wind. Later after nightfall it seemed to get stronger still but it may just have been the darkness and noises of shuters rattling, and things moving around in the wind that gave such an impression. For those who were out late or popped outside there was a full blue moon (so called as 2nd full moon in month, the last blue moon of 2018), shining down and acting as an extra street light. It was still clearly visible right up until dawn just after 7am this morning.
The maximum temperature was 22.3c, the minimum was 16.8c.

Good morning from Sfakera where the early morning grey clouds to NE, with cloud capped Albania, have cleared to give an almost cloudless sky with the sun shining and a light breeze. Just the odd white fluffy cloud remains over a clear Albania with the sun shining on the snow capped peaks. The sea is dark blue and almost calm. As we approach 9.30am it is 13.2c.
Yesterday was a day of sunshine, passing clouds and winds of F3-4 making it feel chilly if you were not sheltered. The sea littered with small whitetops, visibility was good. There was no sunset to talk off due to clouds moving in from the West and after dark they slowly began to partially cover the starlit sky.
The maximum temperature was 19.8c, the minimum 14.7c.

Good morning from Sfakera, a clear, still start with a nip in the air. Almost cloudless, superb visibility where we can see how the rains and now sun and winds have reduced the Albanian snow to just its highest peaks. The sea is calm and it was 11.9c at 9.30am.
Yesterday was a lovely day, passing white fluffy clouds, almost continuous sunshine. A light wind, F2-3, picked up early afternoon as small whitetops started to appear at sea, but this had eased before 4pm. The sun shone until almost 8pm before sinking away leaving a yellow glow on the horizon. There followed a starlit evening and night with the moon also very bright.
The maximum temperature was 20.2c, the minimum was 11.9c.
