Good morning from Roda. I have to make an apology, I have only just noticed that I haven't done a new thread for 2018. I have rectified this as of today and will try and put this year's posts in it later on ( I need to scratch my head and think about it first). Anyway back to today. We are sandwiched between two banks of clouds. There is a huge bank that is almost completely hiding Albania, and the other one is hovering over our hill tops. In between there is a good amount of clear blue sky and the sun will be seen when it emerges from behind them. It has had one or two little forays so far. It is a cool morning will no real wind and the sea is flat calm. We are going to take advantage and have a walk to Acharavi along the sea.
Yesterday, started off with lots of clouds but they did fade away to give us a mostly sunny afternoon. We went down to Almyros to gather sea grass for the garden and it was very pleasant but cold. Way too cold to be thinking about swimming. We watched as the afternoon Grimaldi Lines ferry headed passed Corfu on its way to Italy. By late afternoon the clouds were gathering and we only just got back in the house and the wind sprung up from nowhere and the heavens opened. It was only spotting with rain as we headed into the village for a meal at the grill room, but the sky was being lit up with lightning and we could hear thunder rolling about. The thunder storm and rain lasted for a hour or so then petered out mostly. We managed to get home before the start of another shower. It was a mild evening however with the temperature at 11pm 12°C.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Tuesday 16th January 2018 was 10.6°C, real feel 10°C, and the humidity 79% giving a dew point of 7°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 9.5°C
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 13.9°C (real feel 13°C), and the minimum was 9.8°C , the dew point 7°C. The maximum humidity was 78% and the minimum 71%.
The reported UV for today is 2 ( Range 1- 11+).
UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice).
The maximum temperature recorded by us in Roda in 2017 was 31.9°C (real feel 34°C) on 29th June The maximum recorded temperature ever in Corfu was 42.8°C The lowest recorded temperature was -8.8°C

Good morning from Roda. It is not what you would call a beautiful morning here today. We have a complete coverage of lumpy grey cloud without even a hint of breaks anywhere. Albania has disappeared into the murk across the relatively calm sea. Our hills behind us are disappearing into the murk with the clouds coming down the valleys. There is quite a breeze blowing which is due to strengthen into a gale later on tonight. On a positive note it is dry and the temperature is quite mild.
Yesterday was a pretty good day overall. The clouds stayed on the north and south horizons leaving us under an almost clear sky. Therefore we had good long spells of sunshine which felt very pleasant. We enjoyed a lovely walk to Acharavi and back. It was a lovely temperature for walking. Albania also got some sunshine with big patches chasing each other across the flanks of the mountains, now devoid of all snow on their peaks. We enjoyed a lovely sunset, but the star of the show was the bank of cloud to the east that was bathed in beautiful light. The evening got cloudier but was mild with the temperature at midnight a mild 12°C. The first two photos are of the sunset last night and the other one is the one I promised from a couple of days ago. I know they are a bit fuzzy, but I hope they give an impression of the lovely scenes.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Wednesday 17th January 2018 was 13.8°C, real feel 13°C, and the humidity 78% giving a dew point of 10°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 10.0°C
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 14.0°C (real feel 14°C), and the minimum was 8.8°C , the dew point 10°C. The maximum humidity was 80% and the minimum 77%.

Good morning from Roda. We had gale force winds here last night, gusting between gale force 7 and 8. The things on the balcony were being blown around and Steve had to go out in the middle of the night to tie things down. The noise from the wind and the waves was so loud it kept us awake at times. We awoke to the same strong winds, sunshine and a clear blue sky with only one or two token clouds. The strong winds had cleared all the murk away and we had amazing clarity. Albania was beautiful with a topping of fresh snow on the high peaks, seen across a very turbulent sea. Huge waves could be seen as far as the horizon causing the local ferries to Igoumenitsa to be cancelled. The big ferries from Italy are still running though. The storm has caused a lot of damage to the beach and beach roads. The diggers were hard at work clearing the roads this morning. On the very sheltered south facing balcony we were still able to enjoy breakfast in the sun.
Yesterday stayed mostly grey and cloudy, although the sun did make an appearance for a short time in the early afternoon. It then clouded over again and the wind started picking up in the late afternoon. By evening Albania was still missing from the horizon apart from the lights from one small village. The clouds were starting to break up and one or two starts could be seen.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Thursday 18th January 2018 was 11.2°C, real feel 7°C, and the humidity 53% giving a dew point of 2°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 10.8°C
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 15.6°C (real feel 16°C), and the minimum was 11.4°C , the dew point 13°C. The maximum humidity was 79% and the minimum 70%.

Up in Sfakera as the gale force winds eased in the late afternoon the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore could be clearly heard.
The gales have resulted in nearly all the seaweed having been removed from the main beach and also the harbour.
At Alexandros the wind pulled apart the outside piping of the sombre in the night, the result the bar full of ash in the morning. Christina and Antonis were left with a big clean up before last nights darts and pool.

Good morning from Roda. What a difference a day makes. Gone are the storm force winds we experienced yesterday and we awoke to fairly clear blue skies, great visibility and a calm blue sea. The breeze started off being very gentle but increased a bit to chase me indoors when enjoying my breakfast cup of tea on the balcony. The clouds are increasing especially to the south, but it is still sunny at the moment and we are due to remain dry for the rest of the day. Some of the snows seen yesterday on the Albanian peaks have disappeared.
Yesterday stayed dry but extremely windy for the best part of the day, only beginning to ease by mid evening. The sea remained wild until, again by evening it had settled into long rollers. The storms had pitched up a different type of sea grass, long thin ropy strands. There was a lovely sunset despite the lack of clouds, but the stars of the show were the Albanian mountains. The whole expanse of the mountains that we could see were flushed rosy pink in the dying light. The night sky was entrancing with a billion stars on view, even the well known Orion constellation was fighting to be seen.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Friday 19th January 2018 was 9.9°C, real feel 9°C, and the humidity 61% giving a dew point of 3°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 11.6°C

Good morning from Roda. It is a double report today as we suffered almost continual power cuts or extremely low voltage for the best part of the day. There wasn't enough power to light the fluorescent lights, but enough for normal bulbs to be very dim, and with all the flickering internet was a problem.
Saturda's Report
The morning was mostly overcast, with the sun trying to break through with a slight breeze coming and going, though it was mostly calm. The sea was almost flat calm with Albania missing on the horizon, and our hill were threatening to be murky with clouds skimming their tops.
Friday after a lovely start had got increasingly cloudy so by the time we got to sunset it decided not to try and force its way through the thick clouds. The sea remained flat calm all day as did any wind. There was some break up of the clouds in the evening to allow a few stars to glimmer through some thin clouds.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Saturday 20th January 2018 was 13.4°C, real feel 13°C, and the humidity 75% giving a dew point of 9°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 13.7°C.
Today's report This morning we awoke to another grey but calm morning. Albania is just about visible on the other side of the channel and the sea is flat calm. There is barely a breeze. There had been some slight rain during the night. Our hill are fairly hazy, but the sun is making a determined effort to break through the clouds. It is still quite mild.
Yesterday stayed mostly grey, with mizzly rain on and off all day. It wasn't enough to call it a shower, or even a drop or two, it was as though the air was too full of water to hold it. The weather did dry up and the skies increasing cleared to give us a lovely sunset. I stood on the back balcony watching it listening to the call of the circling buzzards. Albania was mostly absent during the day but the murk cleared enough to reveal the village lights in the evening. the skies cleared quite to give quite a show of stars ,even though we were still getting a few drops of rain. It was still quite a mild 11°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Sunday 21st January 2018 was 12.1°C, real feel 12°C, and the humidity 78% giving a dew point of 11°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 11.7°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 15.2°C (real feel 15°C), and the minimum was 12.4°C , the dew point 11°C. The maximum humidity was 75% and the minimum 67%.
The reported UV for today is 2 ( Range 1- 11+).
UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice).

Good morning from Roda. We had a very wild windy night with the wind singing through the wires outside the apartment. The heavy rain of the previous evening died away. We awoke to clear blue skies decorated with a few complimentary clouds. The Albanian peaks with their fresh dusting of snow stand proud across the channel. The sea is a wild turbulent mass of white crested waves. There is still a stiff wind blowing lowering the real feel, but on our sheltered south facing balcony we enjoyed our breakfast in very pleasant warmth.
Yesterday started off quite dull but calm with poor visibility. It did brighten up for a while with the sun making valiant attempts to burst through the cloud layer. Then the clouds darkened and started to descend on our hill tops and a drizzle started late afternoon. The rain stayed for the rest of the day getting very heavy at times. Fortunately the wind stayed away so it we didn't have to struggle to keep the umbrella over us. The sea was still placid, just gentling rolling onto the shore.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Monday 22nd January 2018 was 10.9°C, real feel 8°C, and the humidity 59% giving a dew point of 3°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 12.3°C.

Good morning from Roda. It is a fairly good start to the day. We do have quite a bit of cloud around, mostly of the thin high variety, with some lumpier ones mixed in. The sun is successful at breaking through in some of the many blue patches. We have lovely clear views of Albania across an almost flat calm sea. The snow topped mountain peaks are gleaming when the morning sunshine hits them. That strong wind of yesterday had all but died away, thankfully as it did make it feel quite cold. Today though the temperature is quite low, so no breakfast on the balcony, instead our bowls of porridge were eaten in front of the gas fire.
Yesterday stayed sunny all day, with only one or two clouds at any one time. The very strong overnight wind took its time in dying down, only really being noticeably calmer by the evening. There was a lovely red sunset, followed by a clear starlight night, with a nice crescent moon adding to the effect. The lights from the mainland and around the bay added to the overall effect. I know I keep boring you all with repeating myself, but two of the things we appreciate most about living where we do is one, being able to sit up in bed with a cup of tea and watch the sea and the mountains of Albania, the other is the walk back from the village on a clear night. At this time of year we don't see another person the whole way.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Tuesday 23rd January 2018 was 6.5°C, real feel 6°C, and the humidity 61% giving a dew point of 0°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 12.5°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 12.9°C (real feel 13°C), and the minimum was 10.7°C , the dew point 4°C. The maximum humidity was 78% and the minimum 53%.

Good morning from Roda. It is a glorious morning here. We have clear cloudless blue skies a gentle but cool breeze and amazing visibility. The sea is a lovely shade of blue with the merest hint of white horses and I can hear waves reaching the shore. Albania is beautiful and clear still with its capping of snow on many of its peaks. A good day for a walk to Acharavi. It was cold first thing this morning but as soon as the sun was shining on the back balcony the kitchen door was open and we enjoyed our breakfast outside.
Yesterday started off promising, but the clouds steadily built up to give complete coverage by the afternoon. The sea remained calm all day with just a few floppy waves appearing by the evening. The winds was also gentle, so a so- so sort of a day. There wasn't a sunset but the clouds were thinning a bit in the evening to give us a few stars and the sight of the slightly hazy crescent moon.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Wednesday 24th January 2018 was 9.1°C, real feel 9°C, and the humidity 52% giving a dew point of -1°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 10.2°C. Good morning from Roda. Steve suggested I headline this report with ( hot 'ere cold 'ere), and suggested I bought a pair of earrings with H on one and C on the other for walking or sitting facing west. the reason for the suggestion was my comment that my left ear was burning in the sun whilst my right one was saying 'lucky you'. I will explain. We awoke to a ground frost which quickly melted away in the morning sun. We do have some pretty white clouds dotted around and some thin high stuff, but by breakfast time it was beautiful on the south facing balcony so we enjoyed breakfast there, needing only a jumper over a T-shirt. That sun was so hot on the side of my face, making me say that comment. It was is hard to believe that we have had breakfast comfortably outside and the south facing kitchen door is wide open, yet the temperature on the opposite side of the house is a chilly 8°C!. We almost have three seasons in one day, winter spring and summer. Though the frosts and the generally haziness we have at the moment could be autumnal. Albania and our hills are partially obscured by haze, with bonfire smoke adding to ours. There is little in the way of wind, but the sea looks quite ruffled.
Yesterday was lovely all day, wall to wall sunshine with only one or two tiny clouds daring to appear in the late afternoon. The complete absence of any real clouds led to an OK sunset with the usual deep band of orange/red on the horizon. A lovely backdrop to the rooves and palm trees. The evening sky was filled with many stars and a lovely crescent moon. The waves had increased to low long rollers gently hitting the shore. The temperature was falling quite rapidly.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Thursday 25th January 2018 was 6.1°C, real feel 6°C, and the humidity 64% giving a dew point of -1°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 12.7°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 11.9°C (real feel 12°C), and the minimum was 4.5°C , the dew point 5°C. The maximum humidity was 59% and the minimum 51%.

Good afternoon from Roda. It was a beautiful dawn this morning. The new light shone pink on the Albanian mountains, across a flat calm but also pink sea. There wasn't much of a breeze so we had a slight frost. We had to go into town and so enjoyed the sight of the mist filled valleys and plains, making those village higher up seem to glow in the morning sun hovering above the sea of cobwebby mist. the dawn sky was almost free of clouds but as the morning progressed the sky got increasingly covered.
Yesterday afternoon stayed sunny all day. So with little in the way of wind and a flat calm sea there is nothing really to report. There was the usual sunset you get when there are no clouds in the sky, nice but not spectacular, and we drifted into an equally calm evening. There were some clouds gathering once the sun had gone down, but not enough to stop us seeing the stars and the crescent moon. It was a good job too as the street lights were out along the beach front near us. The day however did have a cool feel to it when not in the sun.
The temperature at 8.00 am on Friday 26th January 2018 was 4.2°C, real feel 4°C, and the humidity 66% giving a dew point of -1°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 11.4°C.

Good afternoon from Roda. It is a beautiful if cold start to the day here. There was a light frost first thing even though, one floor up, the temperature only dropped to 4.3°C. The frost soon melted away from around the apartment block, but not so quickly from the nearby fields. We have a blue sky only marred by a few clouds, a very gentle wind, i.e. almost non-existent, and a blue calm sea that is soundless in that I can't hear any waves. There is a general haziness about our hills and the snow capped peaks of Albania are seeming to float in mid-air. Though the temperature on the north facing balcony was a chilly 9°C we enjoyed our breakfast on the opposite one in an almost too hot 30°C!!. OK the reading was taken in full sun, but it certainly felt that hot as we only needed a light jumper. The sun was hot on my leg through the material of my trousers.
Yesterday stayed very nice all day if a bit hazy. There were come clouds gathering towards late afternoon, just in time to add interest to the sunset. The evening pink light was pretty with the snow on the Albanian mountains flushing a delicate shade and appearing to float weightless in the sky. The chilly evening was calm, no wind and the sea barely moving. We had a star strewn sky with a half moon shining away. Again it was most welcome as the street lights are still out!
The temperature at 10.00 am on Saturday 27th January 2018 was 6.9°C, real feel 7°C, and the humidity 73% giving a dew point of 3°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 11.3°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 11.3°C (real feel 11°C), and the minimum was 4.2°C , the dew point -1°C. The maximum humidity was 73% and the minimum 65%.

Good morning from Roda. And so the brilliant weather continues. Chilly in the shade but oh so warm in the sun. Breakfast was enjoyed on the balcony again, enjoying the peace and quiet with just the birds and a few distant dogs to keep us company. Well that is what it felt like. The air is so still there is nothing to take away the heat of the sun. However it is quite hazy with Albania and its remaining snowy peaks only just visible across the channel. The sea is a lovely shade of pale blue and almost ripple free.
Yesterday stayed beautiful all day, with only the occasional thin wispy cloud drifting aimlessly around. The breeze barely stirred at all, and as for the sea it was mirror like. But the general haze would have been too much of a challenge for the little camera I use, and the photos would have not captured the scene. There were a couple of fishing boats in the bay, casting their nets. One was so close to shore opposite the Aphrodite that you could see the water glistening on the nets. One of the gift shops behind The Harbour Bar has been temporarily into a repair room where Socrates has been busy mending his nets. I think the same has happened at Agas jewelers. All will be returned to normal well before the first tourist arrive. The sunset was fairly average leading onto a chilly night with plenty of stars and a just over half exposed moon. These last few days have been perfect and I am sure many of our summer visitors would enjoy them as much as we do.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Sunday 28th January 2018 was 7.5°C, real feel 8°C, and the humidity 77% giving a dew point of 4°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 10.7°C.

Good morning from Roda. It is still beautiful out here. We have cloudless blue skies the merest of breezes and a calm pale blue sea. Though I can hear some small waves coming ashore. We opened the doors to the song of the small garden birds and the call of the buzzards riding the early morning thermals. Breakfast was enjoyed on the balcony, basking in the heat of the sun. There was just a hint of ground frost when Steve got up, but it was well gone by the time I stirred myself. The hills behind us are very hazy aided and abetted by the smoke from many bonfires in the higher olive groves. However Albania is much clearer than it has been recently with the sun still gleaming on the snow capped peaks.
Yesterday stayed gorgeous all day, so pleasant in the warm sun. However in the shade it still said winter is not done yet. Though the general air is that spring is here and there are more flowers every day. The breeze stayed away all day, but the sea is gradually increasing the size of its waves, though they are still very small, so we can hear them coming ashore. The sunset was a standard deep orange band on the horizon, leading into a bright but still hazy night. There was a very bright moon and a good sprinkling of stars gleaming through the haziness. All outdoor surfaces were dripping with condensation once that sun had gone. The patios and paths and cars were drenched, not surprising because of the high humidity.
The temperature at 10.00 am on Monday 29th January 2018 was 7.8°C, real feel 8°C, and the humidity 76% giving a dew point of 3°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2017 was 10.7°C. Yesterday's maximum temperature was 12.9°C (real feel 13°C), and the minimum was 5.3°C , the dew point 9°C. The maximum humidity was 79% and the minimum 69%.
