It seems that easyJet are saying that all of their flight slots are dependent on confirmation by air traffic control authorities and next summer's schedules are currently being released in batches. They conclude by stating that all routes should be confirmed by Christmas. I guess that means that we will all have to be patient. We should receive email confirmation in advance of any general statement.

News out today. Easyjet report a 45% loss in full year profits, compared to last year. This calculated a a cost of £2.37 per seat for 2008, compared to 2007, at £4.30 per seat. Easyjet also report the blame is on the rising cost of fuel which calculated at £4.08p per seat, a considerably loss.
Bookings for Winter 2009 early flights are up, but however, the outlook on summer flights for 2009 is uncertain due to the difficult macro-economic environment.
Talks mentioned this morning could mean a cut of up to 20% in flights to Europe.
It is not looking good is it.

So what is the average age of the easyJet fleet, because engine efficiency is improving all the time, and fuel costs are now coming down?

Very true Steve, but most airlines buy their fuel in advance, even up to two years in advance. Easyjet has done this, and paid the higher price. Now the prices are dropping, airlines such as Easyjet still have to reap back their money they paid out, which in turns comes down to the punters. This is not a new practice, it has been going on for years. It is just recently with the fuel hype, this is causing problems.

I'd not heard about airlines buying fuel in advance - seems a bit of a scam by the fuel companies, or do they simply not trust the airlines to still be there on pay day?
Having been in sales for many years, I find that the first reason people give you for something in business is often not the real one. That lies buried under the surface. A bit like appreciating that the opposite of a politician's statement is often nearer to the truth.
If 'Kiss' are merely exploiting (in the true sense) an opportunity in the marketplace caused by the demise of 'XL', how do the fuel companies find the fuel for them at short notice? One assumes that the fuel companies then have kept the money they received from XL, without actually supplying the fuel. Somebody's making a lot of money and playing games with our hard-earned holidays!

It does make one think Steve, and I agree on what you have said. I was unaware of the fuel purchase scheme until recently when I read about it, and it was on a documentary programme about airlines.
It is along the lines of, if they want the slots, which have to be booked in advance, then they have to prove in many ways that they will be flying. Probably one reason as to why they buy the fuel in advance. The other is the cost. If the barrell price is down, it is beneficial to the airlines to buy in bulk, and for a period of time. Sometimes they buy when prices are up, and then the prices drop, but they still have to reap that money back through the passengers.
Scams alround if you ask me. However, we want our holidays, so we pay the prices.

Although I belong to every mailing list Easyjet must own, I have not received any email notification of their schedules from Gatwick for 2009. On the 1st December, Easyjet changed their schedule email date from the 2nd to the 5th December. Typical Easyjet response, nothing. There seems to be a lot of complaining about Easyjet, probably by people who have never used them to get to Corfu. So far they have told me that they will email me when the schedule to Corfu is announced, as yet they have never let me down. I have been very pleased with their service and prices booking ten flights with them last year, perhaps a little less moaning and more support for them would more beneficial or even book tickets with them before complaining about them. I agree with you Cuthbert. I accept that we do need to know easyJet's schedules sooner than this and I suspect their excuse that Air Traffic Control is delaying the process. However, if operators like easyJet and Kiss can act in a businesslike manner and adequately address our concerns, they deserve our fullest support. Let's face it, we need them to get to our favourite resort, Roda.

CC I think that is rather unfair of Cuthbert to assume a lot of complaining is taking place regarding Easyjet. I can see no complaining on this thread, or other forums come to that. I have been watching and waiting for the schedules to be published, so that I can as a member, notify other users of the outcome. It is like Steve says, one would expect airlines who say one thing, to keep to that. I have yet received nothing in reply to my emails, or mailing lists from Easyjet, and I still have not received any communication for Kiss. Further to my posts above regarding Easyjet. I have received this information which has somewhat taken me aback. It appears that one can book Easyjet flights to Corfu via the Thomas Cook website at this address: EASYJET FLIGHTS VIA THOMAS COOKComplete the details of dates etc in the box on the right, and you will receive a list of flights using Easyjet/Easyjet Tickets. What does this mean. Is Easyjet not using their own orange fleet, but keeping the routes and offering them out to other airlines and tour companies. Yeiamas, Chris

Thanks Chris, that's very interesting, popped my dates for September in & it came back at £158 each compared with T.C./Monarch/First choice all wanting +£300 each. Still not much use for those of us "up north" when you add on the cost of rail fare or petrol + parking + journey times but a pretty good deal for anyone local. Will this mean fewer seats to Corfu in total though & more importantly will it make the others reduce their prices ? We live in hope. pete.

Cuthbert, please refrain from being so pedantic. Your question was noted, and duly accepted that you were referring to flights on Easyjet, but no particular destination. The fact that Easyjet has only been flying to Corfu for 2008 after taking over the GB Airways routes, by then most would have booked up their 2008 holidays, again waiting for Easyjet to schedule its flights.
I have like many on this forum, have flown Easyjet, and I am the first to admit, that the majority of my flights have been good. Mainly to Spain and France. Then I am a believer you pay for what you get.
But like I said, I did not see anyone complaining about Easyjet during this thread, but mentioning that they give dates for schedules, offer an email service for notification, and nothing happens.
