A clump of wild grape hyacinths growing on the side of the beach road going into Acharvi, obviously very happy with the salty enviroment.

I saved this photo up for Easter as it has a strong link to this season. This is a Judas tree, a beautiful plant that flowers direct from the branches and stems. There are two varieties here on Corfu a pale pink and this much darker one. It is called the Judas tree as he was supposed to hang himself rom it after his betrayal of Jesus. The sap of this lovely tree also is red the colour of Jesus's blood as the legend goes. I first saw this tree outside the Palace of the Popes in Avignon ( which was their residence until they moved to the Vatican in Rome).

Poppies in a sea of camomile in a friend's garden in Roda. So pretty I just had to take a photo.

My landlord hasn't strimmed the front garden so far and we have an amazing profusion of wild flowers including beautiful stems of purple orchids. The meadows and olive groves around the village are just a mass of flowers and buzzing with insects and butterflies.
I caught this trio of terrapins sunbathing by the bridge at the carpark. Love seeing them.

A stunning display of poppies at Angelina's apartments and wild cerise gladiolii in the olive grove near me. Steve used to call then Byzantine Lilies.

The stream coming out under the affectionately called 'smelly bridge' is full of wildlife at the moment. We have terrapins of all sizes, several varoeties of very vocal frogs, lots of hatchling fish, some of quite a decent size and loads of insects. A couple of days ago I saw this family of moorhens paddling around. I don't see many of them around though.
Shame about the water bottle

That brought back a distant memory Jan - many years ago (late 70's) we attended the obligatory - in those days! - welcome meeting with a Grecian holiday rep in the Aphrodite. One couple were making loud complaints about the 'animal' noises during the night which were so loud it stopped them sleeping and they wanted something done about it. The rep was obviously sick and tired of this particular complaint and rounded on the bloke and screamed ' for G---s sake, it's the b----y frogs f-----g! Suck it up!' We never saw her again until a good few years later when she was in Roda on holiday. We were in Golden Sands and I recognised her and couldn't help it - I had to ask what had happened - she had been reported by the customer and got the sack. We had a good chat though and ended up laughing and wondering of that couple had got a life-long hatred of frogs and Roda.

Love that story about the mating frogs lol. They can be so load. I heard a tale that Pipitsa thought they were ducks from the sounds they made! She quickly ralised the noise came from the frogs enjpyong the abandoned pool next door. A not great photo of a very large terrapin sunning itself by the 'smelly bridge' it must have been well over a foot or 30cms!

Not the best photo but I almost trod on this rather large hedgehog on my drive way this morning as I came home. I struggled to get the flash to work on my phone!

There are large splashes of bright yellow flowers around the village. I am sure they are the flowers of the Jeruselem Artichoke which is actually a member of the sunflower family. Steve used to plant them for shade in the vegetable garden.

A little clump of wild cyclamen outside Theodoros Apartments yesterday. Some areas of woodland and olive groves have turned pink with these little beauties.

Lovely photo......masses on the road into Sfakera from mine and in places a wall of pink when you go up to Nymphes on the road from the Platonas mini market. They are so nice to see and let us know summer has ended and we've had some rain.

There is a large Oak Tree in Sfakera with very large acorns. I think it is a Burr Oak which would make it rare in Greece as mainly we have smaller Oaks like Holm and Kermes. Take a look at the acorns and shells and if you think it is a different tree let me know. Thanks.
