I dont know about terminal 3 where Easy Jet fly into/out of, but I flew to/from Terminal 1 in October last year, and thought I should warn you, the new security at Manchester Airport takes a lot more time than ever before to get through on arrival back in the country (going we did not notice any difference) ...It took us a good hour or more in the middle of the night to get through passport control, and we werent even the last ones off the plane! we were queueing the whole time, when finally at the desk we joked with the staff about it and were warned it was going to get worse not better, this was the first time we had ever experienced waits like this having flown from Manchester on numberous occassions. The one good thing was that atleast our luggage was waiting for us when we got through. Heres hoping that things will of improved now.

I arrived at Manchester by train recently becks, and it took exactly one hour to get from the station, through check-in and into the departure lounge at Terminal 3.

We've decided to add an extra night to our holiday, by staying in a hotel & returning by train the following day - may not be the cheapest option, but we'll not be as knackered. Least this way, we have a wee rest in between the modes of transport.

Good job you arent flying tomorrow Jacks - Easyjet have cancelled flights due to the strike in Greece!
As Greece relies so much on tourism it infuriates me that these people still think its a good idea to strike and therefore affect all the "tourists" that were due to come to their country. Rant over!
regards, Kath.

I think you are right John - Greece is the seat of the democratic process and, as such, strikes are considered to be a legitimate course of action. I support their right to do this but, at the same time, I sympathise with those who have scrimped and saved for a few days in the sun, only to have their dreams disrupted at the last minute. As I understand it, the protest is the second attempt to contest the government's austerity measures in the light of the country's economic issues. Interestingly, the national debt, as a percentage of GDP, is very similar to that of the UK and there is more talk in the village today about a return to the drachma. I have even heard a rate of 600 drachma to €1 quoted. As for easyJet, I am confused. This is a link to their website outlining tomorrow's cancellations - there is no mention of Corfu that I can see.

to be honest ihad a good idea ,regarding the reasons behind the strike.and i fully support them .yes even if it meant the cancellation or deferment of our holiday , because thats all it is ,a holiday. !!!not a radical change to job security, pensions ,wage rates and over inflated rises in the taxation system.that the greek people are expected to accept without question ,if any one is to blame its not "these people"its the goverments of the countries currently in hock to theE.U. and I.M .F. as stated in the previous post ,we are in the same boat. as for the drachma i think you ask anyone in the village ,nay greece ,i think the vast majority would return to that currency in a heartbeat .

Yes Jackie, you can check in on line but it might only be for people with no hold baggage, you can definitely print your boarding card off at home, we did this last time, then you just go to the baggage drop check in desk. As for Easyjet canceling flights tomorrow, they only fly from the u.k. to Corfu on Monday, Friday & Saturday so it's not an issue for Corfu. pete.

According to their website, Easyjet fly to Corfu from Gatwick 7 days a week.
I would be furious if my hard earned holiday was cancelled at the last minute because of a strike. We, as our government are always banging on about "are all in this together" - I have personally had a pay cut, reduction in hours and changes to my terms and conditions of employment due to OUR austerity measures but I cannot "go on strike"!
I suspect the majority of Greeks would return to the Drachma in a heartbeat but the chances of that happening are nil (in my opinion).

I'm confused now, Kath. As you have said, easyJet do fly on Wednesdays, so why were we not included on the schedule of cancellations on their website?

Hi Steve, I have no idea. I dont even know whether a "Corfu" flight was cancelled but had heard that Easyjet had cancelled flights today from UK to Greece - my original - partly tongue in cheek comment - was that I was glad Jacks wasnt travelling today as there may / may not have been a problem. However, I stick to my opinion on the broader issue about "strikes" and the disruption they cause not only to us as tourists but to the very people that rely on tourism for their livelihoods! Rant over - although not directed at you!
kind regards, Kath.
