Hello everyone, I'm looking for any information about the Panorama apartments! I've found some older reviews, which seem a bit mixed so was wondering if anyone had been this year? Also, what is Roda like? My first foreign holiday was to Sidari in the mid 1990s but since then I've not been back to Corfu. I've read that Sidari is plagued by mosquitos so that's putting me off a bit and I imagine it has got a lot busier since I was there. How busy is Roda - I'd be travelling with my boyfriend and we both like having plenty of bars/tavernas to choose from with a bit of life in the place but nothing like 18-30s. We also like Greek food so wouldn't want to go somewhere where it was very British (we don't want a "Blackpool with sunshine"!!) We're limited on travelling dates too so are struggling to find something suitable - is Sidari very rowdy these days? (I'm looking to maximise choices so can add it to the list if both Roda and Sidari would fit the bill!) For a comparison, we like Tsilivi in Zakynthos if anyone has been there. Looking forward to any help you can provide

My personal opinion is if you dont want a "Blackpool wirh sunshine" avoid Sidari - dont know what it was like in mid 90s but now it does resemble "Blackpool with sunshine".
Roda has something for everyone whilst not being rowdy. There are plenty of bars and restaurants with lots of choice. If you have a good look around this site you will get loads of information about the different bars and restaurants and all they have to offer. We were in Roda 23 July for 2 weeks and it was definitely quiet for the time of year - which was replicated all over the island.
We werent too bothered by mozzies this year I must admit and all we used was DEET spray and the old faithful plug-in tablet thingy for night times.
I'm sure someone will be along soon with specific info re Panorama apartments.
I would not hesitate to recommend Roda - our daughter and her fiance (both 24) love the place as much as we do so it must have something going for it.
Enjoy your holiday wherever you decide to go.
regards, Kath.

Hi Kath and Kaz,
Thanks so much for your very helpful replies.
Sidari sounds like I imagined it (which is a shame as I think I'd found some nice apartments!) so what with the Blackpool connotations and the mossies, I think we'll cross that one off the shortlist!
Roda does sound nice though, and I'll definately have to have a look on the boards and see if I can find some nice accommodation there.
Hopefully someone will be able to tell me about the Panorama and then my problem may have been solved!

Hi Katiesam, let me know what type of accommodation you want and I'll try to point you in the right direction. There's a bit of everything in the village, so it wont be a problem. Let me know approximate dates, length of stay, room only or whatever, swimming pool, location etc,. and I'll do what I can. I live in Roda and can speak directly to the owners. Start by looking at 'Roda Pages', and take it from there.
Best Wishes, Steve

Hi John and Cris, thanks for your reply. Not what I was hoping to hear but very helpful nonetheless! I think I'll have to go back to the drawing board! Thank you for your reply Steve, it's very kind of you to offer to help. I do have some dates in mind but I'll be honest and tell you that my boyfriend is hoping to keep costs down as much as possible so I wouldn't want you to go to a lot of trouble and then for us to be unable to book something. Also, I've been advised to get a package holiday this year in case anything else happens with the volcano etc like earlier in the season (although usually when we go abroad, we go to Zakynthos and do book it all independantly ourselves directly with the accommodation owner). That said, ideally I'd love 14 nights away, which would mean we'd be tied to travelling out between 2-4 September (leaving it all a bit last minute but unfortunately that's the way things have gone this year!). We like eating out in different places on an evening but also often get a few provisions to make lunch ourselves and cut down on costs a bit so a self catering studio would be good. We'd need a fridge at the very least. As for location, our ideal would be somewhere fairly central (but not too noisy) with a great pool and also on the beach (us? fussy? hehe!) Can you use pools at other hotels in Roda if you're not staying there? (We've done that in Zakynthos where you just have to buy drinks/snacks at the pool bars). Also, what are the prices like this year for eating out/drinks/groceries etc? I'll have a look at the Roda Pages as you suggested but in the meantime, thatnks again for all your help eveyone

Hi katiesam - I'm not sure what difference booking a package would make in respect of ash clouds etc. Do you get better insurance cover? I'm a bit out of touch - what are the risks of another eruption?
I'll get back with answers to your other questions tomorrow. Don't worry, there is still plenty of time.
Steve

Hi katiesam, if you have a browse through the site 'justrcorfu' you can view Roda, Sidari and other places to see what it's really like. I can heartily recommend Roda , which although quiet this year, has a few ''hot spots'' which are well worth a visit. I am going back to Roda on 13th Sept and will be staying at the Panorama with Shirl and three friends. I was intrigued by the post by 'johnandcris' as I have had some very good reports from friends, and other sites, about the Panorama. I wonder when, exactly, johnandcris stayed there? With the 'noise control' in force these days I can't see how there could be a problem. I've heard that the rooms are on the small size ( I don't spend very much time awake in my room !!), but are spotlessly clean. The location is in the centre of the village, so you don't have a 'pony treck' to the bars/tavernas or the beach. The pool is a reasonable size and immaculate. If you fancy any of the other pools in the village, they are all free to use, just wander in, the only stipulation being that you don't bring in your own food and drink, but that you buy it from their poolside bar. Hope I have been of assistance..... Johno

We didn't actually stay at the Pamorama studios on this year's visit but we were in their other apartments nearby. We used the Panorama pool everyday with no pressure to buy anything, although we did get water and the odd snack and it is lovely as are the owners, they also have a great restaurant in the block. I am also surprised about the noise issues as the Drunken Sailor opposite is very well soundproofed and the apartments are not exactly on top of the road. The position of the Panorama is great, everything, including the beach is easily accessible and its so close to lovely greek, italian and mexican restaurants, but nowhere is very far in Roda lol. Please do try Roda we have been coming for 16/17 years and adore the people, the atmosphere and the choice of food and entertainment.

We stayed there last year.We know the Drunken Sailor is sound proofed that wasnt the problem is was the noise caused by peolpe leaving the premises when it closed at 4-5 am and fighting in the street.

Wow - so many replies since last night Steve - I've been told that a package holiday would give us more cover in the event of things like the ash cloud happening again. Apparently we'd be covered for accommodation as well as flights (and if we were already in Greece, the tour operator would get us accommodion if we were were stranded etc). Whereas if we booked it all ourselves, we would have to reply on travel insurance to cover the accommodation and often they don't cover for 'acts of god'. However, I'm not sure what the likelyhood of it coming back is but that's the advise I've been given! Lynda - thank you so much for your helpful reply. I'll have a look at all the accommodation you recommended. Johno - thanks for your response, it's always good to have other people's opinions. Did you friends stay at the Panorama this year? Debbie - thanks for your comments - the more I read, the nicer it all sounds!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9vz5Y63OzU&feature=relatedI adore Roda, but don,t dismiss Sidari....... I live there now, and I assure you it is not Blackpool with sun Sidari has lots to see, walks in orange and lemon groves , sunset beach, tavernas so quiet you can hear a pin drop . its as diverse , as lively, or as quiet as you wish 200 yds of noisy tavernas and shops , only noisy after 10pm /// if you don,t like it plenty of other areas to visit, for the evening Blackpool, no, how do I know we lived there for 20 years , Sidari is now my home , peace, and tranquillity, donkeys, ducks, dogs, only noise making things in our valley
