When XL went bust a couple of years ago, Katiesam, there were many independent travellers stranded in the village. Whilst wealthy tour operators and airlines hiked up the prices of flights to ridiculous levels, the accommodation owners in Roda did everything within their power to help stranded passengers. These people get little enough from the tour operators and yet there were many stories of free rooms being offered until transport could be arranged. Do not worry about being stranded from an accommodation point of view - the people of Roda are very special, very caring and everything would be done to help you. Transport is the only issue you need to consider.

Hi Steve, that's good to know. From the helpful replies in this thread alone, it does seem that Roda is a very friendly place and the more I read, the more I want to visit And from artisan's comments, I might expand my search to include Sidari again - and if we're lucky enough to manage a stay in Roda, I think Sidari would definately be on our list to visit.

There is lots of accommodation available in Roda, katiesam, it's just a matter of finding the one that suits you best. maybe you can list eveything you want - including a budget figure - and we'll all put our heads together and make suggestions.

I stand by my comments about Sidari - in my opinion, if you dont want "Blackpool in Greece" then go to the Canal D'Amour / Peroulades area and not near the main strip. In my opinion Roda beats 'Sidari' hands down. Wherever you go - enjoy your holiday.
regards, Kath.

Hi Johno - sorry, I missed you post last night. Hope the Panorama is great and yes, maybe we'll see you!
Hi Kath, I think Roda probably sounds more like what my boyfriend and I are looking for - we enjoy trying out different restaurants/tavernas on an evening and although we like having a choice of bars to head to after we'd eaten, we certainly aren't looking for 18-30-type clubs!
Hi again Steve - following reading Lynda's recommendations earlier, my boyfriend and I really like the look of the Pegasus Hotel! I've been searching hotel booking sites and some show it as not available but I've found it for just under £700 for 14 nights, which of course doesn't include flights and I think my boyfriend was hoping for something a little less expensive as we'd have meals/drinks/daytrips to pay for on top of that!
Ideally, we're looking for something not far from the centre of the village but not noisy at night, with a great pool and close to the beach. We're not looking for half board because we like sampling different tavernas so either a self-catering studio or hotel room with a fridge would be good for us.
We'd have to travel on either the 2, 3, or 4 September and would like to be away for 14 nights. I haven't yet looked at the cost/times/availability of flights on their own as I was looking for packages!

The obvious ones are Makis Apartments & Alexandros, katiesam, with Makis being almost right on the beach itself - just a little further from the centre (5 minutes stroll) are Elizabeth, Theodoros, Melinda & Nino's on the Beach. 10 minutes away will include Venus, Metallinos, Kosmas, Pegasus & Spiros No1. There are also pool bars you can uses free of charge and near to the Panorama pool are Christofis & Eleni, both with rooms away from the road.

Thanks Steve - some more options to consider!
I was having a look on the forum last night and found the link to the google street map of Roda. I could see that it didn't cover all the streets in the village but which are the main areas for tavernas/bars?

You saw them katiesam, that was a tour round Roda.........it didn't cover the old side street where you could see the "footprints" on the ground at the side of the Dolphin.....terrific isn't it to be able to look at ones favourite places (and others of course!!).......enjoy your holiday..Kaz
