It has been said that one travel company rep in Roda is offering her company's clients a 10% discount off meals at certain restaurants - in Sidari! Whether this is with or without the company's knowledge is unclear. Roda is renowned for its excellent restaurants and affordable meals and, if this is happening, it is quite unreasonable and totally unacceptable. The same person is also pointing people towards a certain section of sunbeds on the beach, leading us to assume that there is some incentive for her to do so.
If either of these 'offers' have been made to you, then please let us know.

Unfortunately, chrissey, reps recommend all of the time and I have no problem with that if their advice is completely impartial and well-intentioned. The problem is that they receive minimal wages plus commission on anything they can promote - including coach tours, vehicle hire, house sales and much more. It even backfired on us when one rep gatecrashed our get-together in May, accused us of taking business away from her and reported us to her company for doing so in spite of it being untrue. She has now been moved, but the legacy of what she said remains. We can no longer use that venue for meetings. This is a shame, because we were actually bringing in business on the day and introducing people to the venue who had never been there before.

I have to agree with Steviejay on this matter Steve. It would be worth a try and beneficial for all if you could get back to that venue. A similar matter happened a few years ago in another resort I was staying at, where by the Manager of the Hotel and organised something. The rep for the company (no longer in existence) reared up at the Manager, and ordered the said event to be closed, and she reported the matter to the company. She too was moved on, and the Manager spoke a few days later to the company, and all was revealed. There was no problem with the event or any events organised, the Rep was making a fast buck behind the companies back.
As they say it is good to talk.

No can do, Stevie - the owner has been warned off by the tour company on whom he depends for most of his business - maybe next year?

That's shocking that the tour companies can dictate WHO you allow into your apartment/pool/bar. All it is, is a load of friend's meeting up. Why should the tour companies be worried about that?

Small problem it maybe, but this is the sort of thing totalled up that is causing problems for the Tourist Industry. The idea of the tour operator is to get people to that destination, what happens after that is got nothing to do with them. Yeiamas, Chris

How do you think we found out about the problem, Chris? It was when we went to speak to the owner about another meeting, that he told us of his decision. Tour companies put a lot of pressure on accommodation owners and they now even 'offer' them advertising in brochures and in-flight magazines that is hard for them to turn down. By doing this, they are effectively getting a rebate on the room rate which is far from generous to start with. It also takes any spare cash they might of had to advertise independently. The answer about the meetings is a firm 'no, for now!'

On our variuos trips abroad we have been unindated with reps trying to giving out a discount to recomended restaurants and i have always come to the the conclusion that by giving discount that there is something amiss with that restaurant. IMHO.

I am disgusted at this as I was actually at the meeting and witnesed the whole thing. At the end of the day we were a crowd of friends meeting for coffee in hind sight steve we should have never explained anything to her and told her she was rude and gate crashing. I feel bad for theo as Im sure there are lots of people who would not venture round and discover his lovely appts and poll area by themselves. This has made me very angry Im so glad she has been moved on !! lynda 101

You are bang on Lynda, no one, including Reps should have barged their way in on what was really a private gathering of people on holiday. I have a daughter who worked in the Rep business, for a well known Tour Operator. At first she said it was a great job, but then they were asked to do things that she felt was at most an intrusion on peoples holidays and private lives. Consequently she left, and now flies with Virgin.

Totally agree with you, Lynda.
What right did she have to even dare to ask what people were doing there. As I said b4, it was a group of friend's meeting up - nothing to do with her!
If she was still there, I'd be wanting to go round & get her, while I'm there! lol
