Reported in the Daily Telegraph today. Luton Airport is proposing that drivers are to pay £1 to park in a dedicated drop off zone for upto 10 minutes, which will be controlled by a barrier, where one pays on leaving. Luton Airport already charges £1 for Trolleys, and the same for clear plastic bags for carrying liquids onboard. This is obviously another way to fleece the already cash strapped tourists. Luton already charge £3 if you want to jump the check in queues.
So lets go on holiday. A family of four. Uncle Frank will drop us off, £1. Grab two trolleys, £2. A clear bag for water bottles each, £4. Look at the queues, oh come on then, £12. Total before going through to departure, £19. Not a lot for a family of four, but then multiply by the number of families going through the airport in a day, a week, a season.

I agree another rip off.
I bet if you ask the airport they would say its what the customer wants.

This drop-off scheme was in operation at Manchester two years ago. The area was little more than waste ground, the access to the airport was difficult and there were no concessions for the disabled. Bearing in mind that you can't push a wheelchair and a trolley at the same time, especially across uneven ground and up a slope, there was insufficient time for a third person to help us within the meagre time limit. They call it 'customer service'!!

We have always flown from Manchester Steve and have never had to pay for Drop-Off in the dedicated zone. You only pay if you are actually parking the car. I agree with you all regarding 'rip-off' at Luton, It won't be long before they all cotton on........where will it end?

When will it all end eh. All these companies probably employ people just for this purpose(how to scam some more money out of people)

Yeah, you get 10 mins for free at Glasgow, but if you were to be a minute longer, I think it jumps up to £1.50.
It's a nightmare if you're there to pick someone up!
But it is MUCH better than other airports.
