Tui Travel have just signed a deal with Air Berlin who, in turn, will take a stake in Tuifly. Thomsonfly remain unchanged, but the group is thought to be moving away from no-frills flights to concentrate more on Charter business. A few extra flights to Corfu might be nice.

This is part of the press- announcement...I found on www.tourpress.nl/materials/pers_pages/090328_090328_TUI___Air_Berlin_strategic_alliance.pdfTUI Travel PLC and Air Berlin seal strategic alliance for their German flight business "The central component of the agreement is for the previous city flight busi-ness of TUIfly to be transferred to become the commercial responsibility of Air Berlin starting with the winter flight schedule 2009/10. Of the in total 38 aircraft that TUIfly will operate from 2010, 17 planes will be chartered to Air Berlin via a long term wet lease (i.e. including the crews). The remaining 21 aircraft will be operated in future under the TUIfly brand purely for TUI Deutschland tourism flights."

This sounds like a good merger alliance. Lets hope it does culminate a few more aircraft or routes to Corfu. Certainly needed. Even if it is link via Germany, with out the delays, would be something.
