The Minister of Development has obtained commitments from nine of Greece's biggest supermarket chains to reduce prices from the beginning of April. The goods targeted are foods and other daily consumables but each of the supermarkets involved will choose which products to include. The reductions will be strictly monitored by the government and are thought to be at least into double figures. 'Every little helps', as they say.

I have seen a list, minime, but it talked more about the controlling groups than individual supermarkets. I know that Dimitra is part of a group of supermarkets that keep their own names e.g Marcato in Sidari so, unless we know the group name.....
One I did recognize was Marinopoulos (AB) in Kontokali. The scheme is due to start today and promised to be in full swing before Easter. If I find out more, I'll post it on the forum.

Sorry, minime, I can't find the list of supermarkets straight away. I said that AB was Marinopoulos, but of course it is not Alpha-Beta, but Champion. From memory, there is also Bazaar, Carrefour, Veropoulos - part of the SPAR, Eurospar international chain, also known as HellaSpar and also Galaxias. It is quite possible that we know some of these under different names. I shall keep looking.

Hi minime, I have searched for the original article on this subject which listed all of the groups - so far without success. The follow-up article says that the effects of the reductions will be felt in the Greek economy in May. I believe that Galaxias was one of the groups and I think that Dimitra is part of that group. Hope this helps for now.
