This is probably in the wrong thread, but I am going to copy a piece from last year about the wind. At some time in the future, we will try to explain all of the winds of Roda, to be accompanied by a video.
'Nikos was right, not that he’s an expert weather forecaster or anything, he’d probably seen it on the television. I wonder if his brother, Mikailis, ever put his nets out after all because, if he did, they’ll be half way to Calabria by now.
We awoke today (one day in November 2007) to an increasingly gusty, crazy southerly wind, the one that howls and whistles through our apartment like a screaming banshee. Not that we are weather watchers or anything, but living on the water’s edge does tend to heighten the senses a little and we take our guide from Eftichia’s duck – that steel chimney cowl that turns its bottom into the wind for safety.
These are winter and spring winds, rarely seen in summer and just another feature that makes Corfu so special. As far as we know, they are sirroco-like and bring with them orange, red or green dusts straight up from Africa and, being in the lee of the mountains, Roda often gets the rain as well. The good thing is that these events are usually quite warm and they bring with them the first contingent of migratory birds hitching a free ride from further south.
Being used to the summer maestros, when the waves and white horses roll in from the north-west and any rain goes to Ipsos, it is fascinating to see the sea ‘going’ the other way. We are sure that there is somebody in Italy collecting all the inflatable beds, last week’s kites and countless odd sandals before matching them up, cleaning them off, repackaging them and selling them back to us at the start of each season!
At the back of our apartment, it’s been getting steadily blacker by the minute and all the hatches are battened down, chairs stacked and plants pushed out to get some dusty water if it comes. If this posting doesn’t appear for a couple of days, you will know that the winds were accompanied by a little light rain!'
More soon.

My apologies Pete, you are right. In wind terminology, it is the direction it comes from. OOps. Chris
