It may not suit everybody, but for rail enthusiasts and lovers of spectacular scenery, what better way to visit your favourite island than to travel by train. What an adventure! Two or three days travelling and ten days in the sun. You can leave London in the afternoon and 25 hours or so later be catching a ferry at Brindisi. The route requires a change or two, but not too many for intrepid adventurers. Eurostar to Paris, a quick change on the Metro, and then off to Milan overnight. Early morning and another quick change to TrenItalia for the last leg to Brindisi. From there, a six hour ferry crossing and you're in Corfu. Alternative routes include Milan to Bologna and the other ferry ports of Venice, Ancona or Bari. has anybody considered this way of getting to Corfu? Let us know - and what about journeys from other European countries? Take a look at RODA 'BY RAIL'

Me ? Make a wish ? Seriously Lynda - if you have a look at the site, the prices are not much more than some airlines are asking at the moment - I would still want my 14 days in Roda - time off work for me is just a matter of swapping however many shifts i need but Debbie doesn't get enough holidays to be off for 17/18 days . I fancy seeing something of the French & Italian countryside so maybe this will be an option one day. pete.

As you know I am considering driving to Corfu via Venice, through France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy etc. I was referred to this website some time ago and though what a good relaxing idea. One could probably shorten the trip more by using the AirSea Lines from Brindisi to Gouvia.
Might give that a thought and costing.

Hi Chris - we will look in a little more detail at the 'Roda By Rail' and, in particular, the advantages of booking months in advance as per the old 'eurodomino' scheme. We will also look at the possibility of 'Roda By Bus', and when we are satisfied we'll add a page to the 'Roda Travel' section covering both. If anyone has personal experience of either, their input would be invaluable.

I should have said that we were with someone last night who has done the rail journey from Milan to Brindisi many times and he said the journey is fantastic. I guess that part of that journey is along the east coast of southern Italy, so the views will be spectacular - certainly enough to keep you awake!
