It has been confirmed that the Newport restaurant has changed hands recently with the family who had it for many years staying on the mainland with the parents retiring and the sons taking over a local restaurant there. Roberto from Pirates Bar will now be running it from this season. I will report on the changes expected.

When I walked into the village I could see that there had been some general clearing of the terrace and the beachside area with everything stripped back to the building itself. I will take photos as the work progresses.

Work is continuing apace at the former Newport restaaurant. There was a big pile of concrete rubble yesterday after a relatively clear terrace from the day before. Looking forward to seeing the changes once it read opens.

Where abouts on the mainland do the parents live ? I have an idea it’s Thessaloniki.

Like a few families who have summer businesses here the family from Newport come from Ioannina. It could be a day trip/ overnight visit from Corfu as there are buses that run there from the bus station.

When I walked passed the former Newport the roof had been removed on the right-hand-side, with new framework being put in place. You can't see him but Roberto was on top of the ladder slotting metal beams into place. They must be doing extensive re-modeling behind the scenes as many bags of cement have disappeared and huge quantities of rubble appeared on the terrace. A new step has been made alongside the gentlest wheelchair ramp I have seen in Roda.

I spoke to Roberto last night outside his restaurant. He was telling me hopes to open in 10 days. It looks like he'll be on track as it looks like the tables and chairs need to be put out and a general last minute tidy up. It is looking good.

I spotted Roberto in the local supermarket buying supplies for his restaurant. I am always surprised that a €100 and €50 note are accepted without blinking! The restaurant looks ready to go.

I went to Seaport to eat yesterday to support Roberto and his team. The restaurant looked lovely and modern though there is still work to be done to the toilets and some of the internalnon-public rooms. The menu includes pizza, pasta, burgers, grilled meats and Greek favourites. I had the vegetarian mousakka and it was well presented and tasty.

Can any of our readers remember the names of the brothers that used to run the Newport restaurant and the family name. I am very bad at remembering names but I'm sure there must be someone who remembers them. Thank you in advance Jan
