I have stopped doing the daily reports as the numbers were quite steady and low.
As of today June 1st there are new regulations.
Masks have to be worn in taxi's and local buses, and inside when on ferries. They also have to be worn in pharamcies, hospitals, clinic and care homes. These are going to be reviewed in September.

Just a brief update re covid. The relaxations re masks etc remain until September but the fact is that since the relaxations and with the number of tourists increasing then so has Covid. The figures are quite alarming really:
Week ending 4th June - 204 cases on Corfu. Week ending 11th June - 311 cases on Corfu. Week ending 18th June - 623 cases on Corfu. Week ending 25th June - 1,415 cases on Corfu.
The figures in Greece as a whole have gone up but not so much as here and some other Islands. In Greece the weekly increase was about 62% (still a massive jump). Deaths in Greece were 70 last week (an increase in 4.5%).
I would strongly recommend that you all consider these figures and remind yourselves about staying safe. Keep a social distance; eat outside at tavernas; avoid that crowded bar of an evening. Have a mask with you that you can use in places where it is not mandatory but will make you feel safer. Basically stay safe.

And it keeps increasing..........week ending 2nd July a jump off another 63% to a total of 2,254 cases.
There is now talk of 4th dose and more widespread use of masks. We will wait to see as they had initially said no changes until September but of course if it keeps getting worse action will need to happen sooner.

Last week the figure for new cases on Corfu increased by a further 19% to a total of 2,672 cases.
In Greece as a whole they are now changing the way they show the figures. They show new covid cases and as a separate figure the number of re-infected people. So yesterday the total was 22,109 cases of which nearly 4,000 were re-infections. Now this is ok reporting wise as to me it is a worry to see the re-infections and means I mast continue to stay safe, avoid crowded areas or at very least use a mask there, social distance etc. It also gives a concern as we dont know if the re-infected were people who refused the vaccinations initially and still haven't had any or if it is a sign the the injections do not give you full protection and their protection is wearing away. The problem is the State TV now only show the lower figure (i.e. they exclude the re-infections) on the screen but the ticker bar shows the number of re-infections. Other Channels show the full total or both figures at the same time. This can mislead people to think things are not so bad and of course make people who have previously had Covid and recovered think they are safe when that is not the case.
In Greece as a whole there was a 37% increase is cases during the week to 137,014 new cases (including the re-infections) and more worrying a 63% increase in the number of deaths to 163.

The cases are still falling; in week ending 7th August it was 103,421 cases in total with Corfu having 1,095. Deaths were at 345. You may see some slightly lower figures as they are released as so many per million of population (using old population figures rather than the recently released 2021 census).
The worrying trend is the number of re-infections, i.e. people getting covid for a 2nd or 3rd time; this accounts for 21% of all cases.

In the week ending 21st August the new cases in Greece fell to 55,769 while deaths were again shown as 258 (however the adjusted figures to overall totals show there must have been 307 deaths or earlier deaths not previously attributed to covid now have been). On Corfu there was a small drop to 879 cases.

I don't know where I picked Covid up from but am still testing positve. The rules here say that as from tomorrow (day 6) I may leave quarantine but have to wear a double paper medical mask or a filtering half mask for another five days. So, apparently I am no longer infectious after 11 days which makes it Tuesday 30th as freedom day.I still have a lingering cough and slight feeling of a head cold but none of the aches and pains I thought I might get. The first day I had this aweful pounding headache and was so hot, but thought I had had a bit too much sun. No, it was covid as I tested strongly positive the next morning!

Jan you did visit the Fever Bar in Sidari............just a coincidence surely.
In the week to 28th August the figures again dropped......50,576 cases and 217 deaths in Greece. In Corfu the cases was 536.
The week to 3rd September I have only seen the new case figure for Greece so far....its is down again to 40,100. The other figures are 180 deathss and Corfu 368 cases of Covid. All figures are still going down.
