Good morning from Sfakera; I am just covering for a couple of days. The news is just rain.
It has been raining on and off all night, the showers heavy at times. There was the odd loud thunderclap to wake you as well and lots of lightning around. Dawn broke to reveal full cloud cover and a lighter shower; there is a light wind but it has eased as it was stronger before this latest shower. In fact when the wind is stronger you know another storm is blowing in; once it arrives the wind drops off completely. Puddles have formed on the garden which will drain away before the next shower arrives. It is however mild, 18.9c as we approach 9am. It is forecast to rain on and off all day but with it easing in the afternoon and the weather front possibly passing us by early evening......we will wait and see.
Yesterday as Jan reported we started with rains and they continued, almost torrential at times all morning. The St Spiriodon procession in Town was cancelled. There was the odd, just a minute or so, glimpse of sun in little patches. In the village we had one short spell. The dogs went out to stretch their legs but within 5 minutes they were back in and it was heavy rain again. It was a case of heavy rain, a break, it would get windy (up to F5) and then the rain would return, sometimes with thunder though not a lot of it. Sometimes some lightning. The wind would then drop. This cycle continued all afternoon and it did seem as if each shower got a bit heavier than the previous. Late afternoon it finally stopped for a longer period; lightning returned before 9pm indicating another storm was on its way and it came before 10pm and was again heavy but eased after just half an hour or so. By midnight it was raining again.
The maximum temperature was 19.8c the minimum was 17.8c.

Good morning from Sfakera where it is a fresh morning with a light breeze. The sun is up but there are plenty of white fluffy clouds around and Albania is again barely visible. The sea looks calm and dark grey in colour. The roads are dry but there are plenty of big puddles still around. At 9:30 it was 18.3c. My washing is out to dry. Today (any maybe tomorrow morning) is time to do what needs to be done outside and batten down. The forecast is not so good from tomorrow afternoon...………..if fact it shows rain (be it thunderstorms, heavy showers or light showers) everyday through until at least the 17th November. They also mentioned this on the tv weather on the local channel. Despite the heavy rains we have had the local winter stream in the village is only a trickle at the moment; that just shows how dry it was and the water soaked through rather than ran off.
Yesterday the short sharp showers and even shorter sunny intervals continued all morning. I was on duty at the recycling and managed to walk there and back when it was fine; whilst there we had 3 showers, one of which was very heavy for 20 minutes. After 1pm the clouds began to clear and the sun was out; there was a light wind. they continued to clear for the rest of the day but there were always the odd clouds around. As sunset there was a grey band of clouds to the NW. We were treated to a bright half moon in the West and a starlit night. It was mild but there was a light breeze making a jumper or light jacket necessary.
The maximum temperature was 22.1c and the minimum was 18.3c

Good afternoon from Sfakera; maybe Jan is not back on track yet so I will continue. This morning we awoke to a light wind, and 95% cloud cover of varying colours but mostly light grey. ALbania was still hidden. It was dry; it had sounded like rains in night but I think it was actually just the wind through the trees and of course the leaves falling like confetti at a wedding!. It was mild and 19c by 9am; a lot of smoke in the air from woodburners……….Greeks seem to light from 1st November irrespective of the temperature; personally I think it is far to warm for a house fire. By 10am there were glimpses of sun as patches appeared in the cloud but other areas were getting much darker. Over our lower hills behind Acharavi the clouds were rolling down and were evident below 250 metres. The rains are due towards evening and it looks like we will be very lucky to miss them!
Yesterday the clouds increased in density to grey but there were still sunny intervals. The wind also picked up and was constant with stronger gusts. It got my washing dry in next to no time. As we moved into the afternoon it slowly cleared but there were always clouds around; especially over Albania which stayed almost invisible all day. Clouds were also very low over our hills and Pantocrator was hidden. By sunset there was a long grey layer of clouds to the WNW but we could still see the sunset below them briefly. As night fell so we could see the half moon very brightly in the Sw and it stayed bright as it moved to the West well until after midnight. The wind had dropped and it was still 19c after 11pm.
The maximum temperature was 22.1c again and the minimum was 17.0c.

Good afternoon from Sfakera where it is raining and has been for some hours. We had some short sharp showers in the early hours accompanied by thunder rumbles and lightning but they had passed well before dawn. There was a light breeze and full cloud cover; we could see the Albanian slopes but the tops of the peaks were hidden by clouds. Grey misty low clouds rolled down our own lower hills giving a misty look above 250 metres.
Yesterday the sun lasted the rest of the morning and a light wind was clearing the clouds. Despite that there were spots of rain in the air; enough to feel but not to dampen the ground. They soon stopped and the sun improved giving us a nice afternoon but there were always clouds around over the hills and more so to the SW. Gradually the sun disappeared and the clouds began to build and it began to darken after 4:40pm. It was totally dark by 6pm and seemed as if the clouds were increasing. Just after 10pm we could see lightning to the SW and this stayed around but there was no thunder. Just before midnight we had a short shower for about 20 minutes.
The maximum temperature was 22.3c and the minimum was 18.2c.

Good morning from Sfakera. Today I was woken early, around 5am, by the sound of torrential rains. I had finally got to sleep about 1am as the dogs had wanted to stay outside as it was mild but there was lightning in the SW from 11pm. After midnight a light wind picked up so I knew a weather front was coming as the air is usually still. These rains continued, easing slightly until well after 9am though surprisingly there were glimpses of blue sky to the North. By 9:30 we had some sun and there are sunny intervals since 10:30.
Yesterday we had a few glimpses of sun in the late morning before the winds brought in the dark weather front from the SW and rains began at 12:45. Initially a shower with rumbles of distant thunder and lightning it slowly increased in intensity. By 3:30 it was torrential and the thunder rattled the house.....fortunately this only lasted for some 20 minutes. During that time the visibility was very short but it soon cleared as the rains eased. It continued to rain until almost 4:30pm and incredibly there was sun in the West just a minute later. It didn't last too long as the clouds were again rolling in and after 7pm distant thunder could be heard. It began to rain before 7:30pm and was heavy. After 8pm there was thunder and lightning. There was a short lull before it continued with heavy rains until nearly 10:30. Even then there was always lightning on the SW horizon turning the clouds a creamy white and these continued until well into the early hours.
The maximum temperature was 21.1c and the minimum was 17.6c.

A secondary weather report from Roda
Good morning from Roda. It has been a strange old day with regard to the weather and it isn’t even coffee time yet. We seemed to constant thunder during the night, distant rumblings never getting menacing. There was a very strange yellow light around dawn which quickly went as the light level increased. There were patches of blue up there amongst some not very threatening clouds. The sea was a flat calm sheet of silver heading off towards Albania which had a crest of thick clouds and valleys looking as though they were steaming. Our hills were much the same. Then the heavens opened to give us a short - lived deluge. And now the sun is making another appearance. Think it is going to be ones of those mixed bag days! Yesterday saw the dry morning give way to an increasingly wet afternoon with very heavy showers at times. We had thunder and lightning mainly from the mainland. It died away around early evening when the wind sprung up from a different direction. It churned the sea into waves and white horses and fair rattled the remaining leaves. Then the wind shifted again, the sea calmed down, but the heavy rain returned with thunder and lightning. Some of the lightning lit up the whole sky. Despite the cloud Albania was quite clear with all the village lights strung around the coast.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 20.0°C and the minimum was 17.4°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2018 was 17.8°C and the minimum 12.3°C a mostly cloudy day with drizzle at times clearing in the afternoon.
The reported UV for Today is 2 (Range 1- 11+) UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice).

Good afternoon from Roda. Many thanks to Dave who stood in for me at very short notice and who does such a good job of doing the reports.
Steve and I were on recycling duty at Roda this morning and it was a question of dodging the heavy showers and keeping dry. It had been quite a wet night judging by the amount of standing water we have around. Waterproof shoes or wellies are very much required footwear at the moment. Mind you, you would think that with all this rain the stream alongside Theodoros resort would be full, but not so. There is a trickle but not the full spate we have seen. The ditches alongside our apartment though are full. There was quite a haze meaning that Albania had disappeared and our hills were well covered with murk! The sea was dark slate green and topped with white horses as there was a bit of a breeze blowing.
Yesterday started off very cloudy with a few blue patches and a sun determined to be seen. It remained like that for the morning, but in the afternoon the clouds quickly melted away leaving lots of blue sky and some cotton-wool clouds. Not only did the clouds disappear, but the haze did too and we had amazing air quality for the rest of the day. Albania looked close enough to touch. The evening saw a clear star strewn sky with a 2/3 moon shining and so many lights from the villages of Albania, making up for the much fewer lights on our side of the channel. It was mild with the late evening temperature 18°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 9.00am. was 17.2°C
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 19.6°C and the minimum was 15.0°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2018 was 19.1°C and the minimum 9.8°C a mostly clear day with some clouds, cold evening.

Good afternoon from Roda. Steve and I were on recycling duty again today. This was our normal shift as we were covering for friends who went on a day trip to Ikea at Ioannina. The start started off with promise with good amounts of clear sky and rosy clouds bubbling over the Albanian mountains, and I set my washing machine off. However, the gods did not smile and we had quite a short sharp shower with thunder. But I was brave and hung my washing out and kept my fingers crossed when we went off to work. And, as it is Sunday, we went for breakfast after our shift finished. We had to go to Ilo in Acharavi as nobody in Roda is doing them at the moment. Then we went to check out Fuego on the front as we had heard an old friend was working there. We enjoyed a lovely coffee and a catch up. They are doing brunch now but didn’t indulge this time. The morning was very pleasant with plenty of sunshine even though there were quite a few clouds around. There was a slight breeze and waves were beating their way onto the shore. There was enough heat in the sun to only need a cardigan.
Yesterday was a day of heavy showers and lots of thunder rattling around by the end of the afternoon. Although it was mostly distant over the Albanian mainland. We did get to see the sun occasionally, and it was warm if you were out and about. In the evening the storm put on a dazzling lightning display over Albania. We had no rain for our walk into the village, but we might have fallen into a puddle as we kept our eyes on the mainland. You couldn’t see much in the way of bolts of lightning, but the clouds were constantly being back lit by large flashes, almost lighting up the whole northern sky. As we walked back from the village the lightning storm had shifted more towards Corfu, and we were almost home when the heavens opened. My jeans are still drying out!
The temperature at 9.00am on Sunday 10th November was 15.7°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 19.6°C and the minimum was 16.8°C.

Good morning from Roda. It is a lovely morning here. We have blue skies with some clouds around, there is a gentle wind and the air is so clear Albania is so clear across the deep blue of the ruffled sea in the channel. Second load of washing in as we are due another long spell of wet weather. It was so warm sitting on the balcony enjoying our breakfast in the sun, almost too hot, but not enough to chase us indoors. As I write this the doors and the windows are wide open to let in the warmth of the sun. It is 18°C outside and 21°C inside, not bad for almost the middle of November.
Remembrance Sunday here saw services at the English Cemetery, and at the Serbian memorial on Vidos Island. Steve and I always remember visiting Thiepval where there is a memorial by Lutyens, (who did the cenotaph) to all those missing from the battle of the Somme, whose bodies have never been found, over 73,000 British and South African soldiers are commemorated on the pillars of the memorial. The memorial is built on a hill and from that vantage spot you can see war graves where ever you look. My maternal grandfather was wounded and taken prisoner at Ypres.
Yesterday stayed lovely after the hiccup of that heavy rain shower and cloudy spell. The sky remained quite blue although with quite a few clouds around. It was very pleasant down at Fuego, but a bit too cool to sit out with the afternoon breeze, but with a bit of shelter it was glorious looking out over the amazing colours of the sea to Albania. Day slipped into a clear night with lots of stars and an almost full moon. The gardeners here are getting ready to plant their onions and garlic at the full moon. We might not be planting the garlic but Steve will definitely be planting his broad beans for our return in the spring. It was a cool 13°C at 11pm.
The temperature at 10.00am on Monday 11th November was 17.0°C.

Weather Warning: Tropical Cyclone will strike Greece, Torrential rainfall and floods in the next 2-3 days.
Looking at the maps we will get the tail of the storm. We already have the strong winds and warm air...…..it was nearly 10c warmer this morning than yesterday !!!
Hopefully Jan will have more details of this Storm......called "Victoria".... in her report.
From my balcony this morning, while visibility allowed, I could see a tanker at anchor off Roda. Probably going to sit there and see the storm pass.

Good afternoon from Roda. We were on duty at the recycling this morning and then went for a much-needed coffee and sandwich. It was extremely windy first thing with a cloudy but bright sky, but very warm. The channel was covered in white horses and Albania had disappeared from sight. The tanker that had dropped anchor in the channel last night was still there this morning. Corfu was under a warning that the medicane Victoria, (Mediterranean hurricane) was approaching after wrecking damage in Italy. Steve had battened everything down last night, but the garden was strewn with our neighbour’s stuff from their balconies this morning. The rain started around 11am, with a darkening sky, gently at first, but we are expecting 3 inches to fall today. The closed side ferries are the only ones running today. Just as well Steve planted his onions and broad beans yesterday, there would have been no chance today. I hope he provided life jackets, or planted them deep as the garden, in places, is flooded. The strong wind is due to gradually die away by the end of tomorrow, but the rain is set to continue for at least the next 6 days with only Saturday looking to be dry.
Yesterday stayed mostly sunny with thin high clouds joining the more defined ones not really affecting the sun. It got increasingly breezy during the day with white horses appearing in the bay by evening, though the sea close in was still quite calm. A well-lit tanker appeared anchored in the channel, adding to the lights of the Albanian villages. The first snows of the season on mountain on the mainland have been reported by people living high up the mountainside. It was milder with the temperature at 10.30 17°C.
The temperature at 9.00am on Tuesday 12th November was 23.3°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 19.4°C and the minimum was 13.1°C. The maximum temperature this day in 2018 was 18.7°C and the minimum 9.0°C a mostly clear sunny day with a calm sea. Good morning from Roda. We awoke to relative calm; it was still windy and cloudy but the sun was trying to find a way through. Then the heavens opened and we had another very heavy shower. Albania has disappeared in the murk and we had two tankers sheltering at anchor in the channel. The bay is full of dirty water washed into it from the streams. Judging by the photos and video on the local Facebook pages the seas around the rest of the island have been very wild and stormy to say the least. We do have big waves coming ashore but nothing compared to the footage I have seen. All the schools on the island have been closed for today as a precaution. Waterfalls have appeared in unusual places and in many places in Roda you needed wellington boots. and the forecast is for more rain and strong winds. We will need them today just to get out of our apartment. When the flooding in the garden goes down a bit we have a lot of sorting out in the garden as the wind has played havoc. Now we are getting a patch or two of blue, but it is still looking very dark and threatening over the mountains behind us and the forecast is for more rain and strong winds up to 40kmph.
Yesterday after a not bad started descended into a very wet and windy day. It was so warm and windy when we got up that we got towels dried on the line before we set off for the recycling. Although the morning was very windy the rain didn’t start appearing until the late morning, starting with light drizzle. We went for coffee in Acharavi and the heavens opened and the winds hit gale force. It wasn’t constant, there were less wild moments to run for the cover of the camper. Another coffee in Pirates in a lull, and we got back home relatively dry before it did get very serious and we were confined to the flat for the rest of the day listening to the rain battering on our winds and the wind howling. At times the clouds and the rain were so bad you couldn't see where land ended and the sky began. The storm added flashes of lightning in the evening just to add interest! The temperature continued to drop throughout the day. There have been reports of trees down and cars crushed. Lisa from Smileys (Alexandros in the village) was flooded up in Episkepsi, but apparently it is not uncommon and she soon had the pumps working. Many places around the island have had no power, and there is a lot of debris on the roads.
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 13th November was 17.3°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 23.8°C and the minimum was 18.9°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2018 was 18.2°C and the minimum 8.7°C a clear sunny day with a sea with a slight wave.

Good afternoon from Roda. We had a wet night and the swamp that is the garden is not draining enough. We still have large areas of standing water and need waterproof shoes to get out of the flat. Albania was lost across the channel and looking extremely menacing with a covering of dark heavy clouds. To the south it looked much better with patches of blue, white clouds and the sun making an attempt to be seen. We set off for town in the dry but a heavy shower caught up with us. The road to town was clear but there was evidence of landslips and debris at the side of the road and on the land beside it. It was a morning of sunshine and heavy showers, sometimes both at the same time and of course several rainbows. At least the wind has dropped and the sea back to being calm with low waves coming ashore. We still have a tanker sheltering in the channel though.
Yesterday was still a day of very high winds and periods of heavy rain. Everything did start to ease as the day went on, enough for the local fishermen to return their boats to the harbour. It is a long time since I have seen so much water under the bridge there. The beach is strewn with seagrass and assorted debris that has been thrown ashore. The water even got over the wall and a shop got flooded and needed pumped out. By Theodoros the most of the debris had been cleared away, but there was still piles of sand nearly a foot deep left on the road and areas of mud and some detritus right across it. We were lucky in that our electricity was not affected, but the area round Oscars was still without power yesterday afternoon. I think though that we came off not too badly as major landslides and flooding have been reported all over the island including the airport and Corfu town. Reports from around the other Ionian islands and the western part of Greece seem to have been very badly affected. The afternoon brought lightening skies and an attempt at a sunset, but we still had some showers. The evening saw a hazy moon and was mostly dry, but there was another lovely show of lightning over the mainland later on It was quite mild with the late evening temperature 17°C.
The temperature at 9.00am on Thursday 14th November was 15.4°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 18.8°C and the minimum was 16.7°C.
The maximum temperature this day in 2018 was 18.7°C and the minimum 8.7°C a clear sunny day with a very cool and clear evening 12°C.

Good morning from Roda. It looked quite promising this morning if you looked out of the north facing windows with a large patch of sun on the flanks of one of Albania’s mountains. However, the sea was a deep green in places and deep grey in others and the clouds were gripping the peaks. To the south it just looked threatening with dark clouds stuck to the mountain tops. The sun was shining though, briefly, but we had a gentle mizzle at the same time. Now it just looks threatening all around and we have more determined drizzle. Our peaks have been lost in the murk, it won’t be very pleasant up in Perithia or Strinilas. On the positive side it is quite mild, though the damp air makes it seem chilly.
Yesterday saw us having very heavy showers of rain, particularly in the morning. The patches of blue were elusive, as were the periods of sun. When the two met, with showers round and about we saw several rainbows. The strong winds of the previous day had died away leaving our sea calm again. The reports of the very wild sea from around the island were of causing damage to piers and leaving beaches deep in detritus. Here, the sea wall by the Brandy shop is itself covered with seaweed. The skies cleared enough to give a pretty little sunset accompanied by a short power cut. Obviously, the electricity people trying to last minute repairs before the light went. A bit alarming when Steve was at the point in putting a casserole into the oven for our dinner.
