Can you tell us anything about the Corfu-wells Steve or Julie? Somewhere I read something about pollution (in the past) can't remember where, maybe a magazine I bought this summer.

Almost all except the newest of properties have their own wells to collect rainwater. With many people cultivating their own fruit & vegetables, these wells play an important part in sustaining plants during the long hot summer. Most of them are not used to provide potable drinking water. Unlike many northern countries, even though Corfu has a plentiful water supply, it is treated as a valuable resource not to be wasted and everybody plays their part.
Although there is an adequate mains water supply in Roda, many people, ourselves included, draw drinking water from one of the numerous fresh water springs around the area. The springs run freely throughout the year and the water is very good.

There you go then, Petra - even the newer houses are still having wells built. Dave, any idea about depth, construction or capacity? .. and who do you get to build it for you?

OK I understand now, I was a bit confused because of the meaning of the words well and spring. in Dutch, the translation is the same. I meant spring (I think... ) I also asked about the wells, because my brother in law Gert is working in this business. He is a specialist in making wells of 13 to 40 or even 100 (for drinking water) metres deep with machinery. Because we live in the low-lands, whenever houses are built, they need the company Gert works for ,to install pumps to keep the groundwater away until the buildings are completed.

Steve,The well was built by Spiros(the one who used to be site foreman& his son another spiros) I don't know how deep it is but I do not think it is very deep.We have had it done mainly to take up some of the garden & also to use on the garden. We also drink some of the spring water when we go to help Suzanne fill up her many bottles.
