Good morning from Roda. And so the storms continue. We had thunder storms during the night with lightning that lit up the room and gave us a power cut. There must have been a fair drop of rain as well judging by the ground. We still had the thunder storm rolling around us when we got up. We have brief periods of sunshine, usually followed by more rain and thunder and lightning. It is due to last at least for the rest of today, but the rest of the week is looking very similar with maybe only a brief respit tomorrow (depending on which forecast you look at). The temperatures are all over the place. At 10am this morning, the maximum temperature was 18.2°C, the minimum was 15.3°C, whilst the actual temperature then was 16.8°C. As i write this the temperature is falling and is now 16.2°C!
Yesterday was extremely wet and stormy. There was torrential rain at times, thunder and lightning directly overhead, as well as far away and all points in between. But the wind was so strong at times and the destruction of parts of the garden continued. There was a bit of a break in the late afternoon, and we went into the village to stretch our legs and get out of the house for a time. We got to Pirates dry for a cup of coffee. Then the light went so strange, it was like a sepia filter had been placed in front of our eyes. The sea got whipped up in white topped waves, and it went the funniest of green colours. Everyone went to wonder at it. The strange light had been preceded by a magnificent rainbow, in fact a double rainbow, and I am convince I saw a hint of the triplet. We actually managed to get back home in the dry, but then the wind got violent, with the trees being whipped about like mad, and because the wind direction had changed we got rain on the northern balcony. This morning there have been reports of a strange type of cloud formation happening over Corfu due to the storm. Mammatus clouds, where, due to cooling temperatures, you get a globular appearance to the underside of the clouds.
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 8th November 2017 was 16.8°C, real feel 16°C, and the humidity 79% giving a dew point of 12°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 18.1°C (real feel 18°C) and the minimum was 15.4°C , the dew point 14°C. The maximum humidity was 79% and the minimum 70%.
The reported UV for today is 2 ( Range 1- 11+).
UK range 1- 8 The UV Index does not exceed 8 in the UK (8 is rare; 7 may occur on exceptional days, mostly in the two weeks around the summer solstice.
The maximum temperature recorded by us in Roda in 2017 was 31.9°C (real feel 34°C) on 29th June. The maximum recorded temperature ever in Corfu was 42.8°C The lowest recorded temperature was -8.8°C

Good morning from Roda. What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours, as the song goes. We awoke to blue skies with a few fluffy white clouds hanging around, mostly over the mountain peaks both here and over in Albania. To be truthful the whole range of the Albanian mountains are capped with clouds. The sea is blue and calm and looking very pretty. The air is clear so Albania seems so close and in detail. Our hills are a bit dark, but that could just be the effect of the clouds hanging over them and a sun still in the east. There is very little wind, and although the temperature on the north balcony is at 15°C, on the south balcony we enjoyed our breakfast where it felt almost too hot! The forecast however is for a chance of showers later on in the afternoon. Yesterday started off as a continuation of the day before, with thunder, lightning, and rain. There were the occasional blue patches of sky however, and an easing of the rain. The sea was calm, but close to shore it was muddied from the water coming down off the mountains in the streams. Further out the sea was inky blue/ black as we watched storms out there. There were reports and photos of severe hail storms in parts of the island, with the ground being turned white! During the afternoon there were gaps appearing in the rain and we managed a walk into the village to get bread and milk, dodging the heavy showers. We had a coffee at Pirates, were told about a horse having broken free from its grazing trying to get into the shelter of Pirates!! The drying process continued with the clouds disappearing to give a very nice sunset. The evening was cold but very clear with the lights of Albania shining bright. The heavens were strewn with stars. Yesterday was a very strange day temperature wise, where the maximums and minimums weren't in their usual place, i.e. before dawn and mid afternoon. Here goes at 10am it was 16.8°C, with the minimum then at 15.3°C and the maximum 18.2°C, but by 10.30pm the minimum was now 12.6°C and falling and the mid- afternoon temperature 17.0°C.
The temperature at 10.00am on Thursday 9th November 2017 was 13.6°C, real feel 11°C, and the humidity 79% giving a dew point of 12°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 18.2°C (real feel 18°C) and the minimum was 12.6°C , the dew point 13°C. The maximum humidity was 79% and the minimum 69%.

Good morning from Roda. It is a beautiful clear morning today. Albania is perfect in all its detail across the calm blue sea, with the clarity belying the humidity reading. We can just about see the faint line of white that is the first snow of the season. There is barely a breeze, but there are quite a few clouds lurking around. It is much better than the rain that was forecast, so breakfast was again enjoyed on the balcony. The heat of the sun is always appreciated at this time of year. We roast on the south balcony, whilst the north one shivers at 15°C. The photos show Albania with a touch of snow and Karousades basking in the sunshine.
Yesterday was fine and dry. We had a lovely sunny morning so we decided to walk to Acharavi. My phone says that if we walk there and back, plus my normal everyday stuff I can easily do the 10,000 steps. So we plan to walk several times a week, weather permitting. And it is such a lovely walk. Yesterday, the sun got hidden behind a large cloud for most of the afternoon, but it gave a lovely soft light. The sea was flat calm and it all looked like a beautiful watercolour painting. Even the clouds were reflected in the sea, it was that calm. We sat enjoying a lovely cappuccino at Fuego and watched the Anek ferry glide along the channel towards Igoumenitsa. We had a very pretty sunset leading into a very chilly evening with lots of stars twinkling overhead, and the lights of Albania and around the bay reflected in the calm waters. These high humidity levels are causing a lot of condensation on the paths and roads, making it look like it has rained.
The temperature at 10.00am on Friday 10th November 2017 was 13.0°C, real feel 13°C, and the humidity 80% giving a dew point of 10°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 16.3°C (real feel 16°C) and the minimum was 10.3°C , the dew point 12°C. The maximum humidity was 80% and the minimum 76%.

Good morning from Roda. What a night! The small hours were disrupted by a massive thunderstorm, it was almost a constant rolling of the thunder and the sky was lit up with the lightning for long continuous periods of time. The rain was lashing down, particularly on the north facing windows, I had to go out and decant the saucers under the plant pots this morning. However we got up to 100% cloud cover and it was surprisingly bright but chilly. Albania is quite clear across the channel with a good cap of extra thick clouds, and our mountains are also capped likewise, and have mist running down the valleys. There is surprisingly little wind, and the visibility is quite good. The sea is steel grey and very choppy. The rain has started again as a steady drizzle and so has the thunder, rumbling away in the background. Yesterday wasn't a bad day overall. We got some good patches of sun in the morning, but as the day progressed the cloud cover increased to virtually 100%. The sea was flat calm with barely enough energy to form a ripple. The day was surprisingly light despite the cloud cover. The night remained calm as we walked back from the village, with the lights of the bay very pretty with their reflections in the calm sea. The temperature began to rise in the late evening with the approach of the storm, getting to around 16°C. I took some photos around the bay yesterday, showing the view from Pirates, the harbour with its flotilla of small fishing boats and the view along towards Almyros.
The temperature at 10.00am on Saturday 11th November 2017 was 14.4°C, real feel 14°C, and the humidity 84% giving a dew point of 11°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 16.6°C (real feel 17°C) and the minimum was 9.8°C , the dew point 13°C. The maximum humidity was 81% and the minimum 77%.

Good morning from Roda. We have a very unsettled morning. There must have been some rain as the paths are wet, more than just condensation. The sky is mostly 100% clouds but with the occasional break giving us spells of sunshine. The wind was calm but we are due for a very windy time any time now. Visibility is poor as Albania has disappeared from view, in fact half the channel has. Our hills are topped with heavy dark looking clouds with mist and rain spreading down the valleys at times. The only good points are that it is dry, at the moment, and it is war, at 18°C. The forecast is for almost another week of thunderstorms and heavy rain.
Yesterday after the very stormy night settled into light rain during the morning and not much wind so we head out to get some groceries from the village after a coffee at Pirates. However the coffee was barely finished before the heavens opened. So we were stuck. We decided to sit it out, but eventually gave up on the groceries (after all we had enough in our cupboards and freeze to last), and waited for a quiet spell to go home. Eventually it came and we made it home without getting very wet. However, no sooner were we in than the heavens opened again, and stayed that way until the early evening when it all started to die down and gave us a dry night with little wind.
The temperature at 10.00am on Sunday 12th November 2017 was 17.5°C, real feel 18°C, and the humidity 91% giving a dew point of 11°C.
Yesterday's maximum temperature was 16.6°C (real feel 17°C), it had also been 16.6°C at midnight, and the minimum was 13.7°C , the dew point 15°C. The maximum humidity was 86% and the minimum 78%.

Sadly the Saturday thunderstorms were much worse in south Corfu where a man died as his car wash away in flood and overturn, 3 others in car escaped safely. There was a tornado and damage to roofs, trees uprooted, and floods broke away sections of tarmaced roads. Disruption to water and electricity, the latter for over 24 hours in places. These storms are all over Island but in places very bad weather. When i went to Town Thursday there were mounds of ice on the grass on the hairpins going down from Trompeta.
Lets hope the worst of these storms have now passed.

Good morning from Roda. It is another unsettled start to the day. We have almost 100% cloud cover, but it does break up to give patches of blue and some sunshine. The wind is swirling around and there are occasional showers. Our hills are shrouded in clouds with mist and murk descending down the valleys. We can see Albania across the steel grey choppy sea, but not too clearly and it too is shrouded in clouds. One good thing is that it is mild, so we can't complain.
Yesterday stayed dry most of the day with some good sunny spells to cheer us up, giving some lovely warmth to the day. Towards mid-evening there was a scattering of raindrops, but no more than that. A quick check of the sky showed some cloud but lots of stars, so not sure where the wet came from!. The village lights of Albania could be seen, which was an improvement over the lack of visibility earlier on. The sea had calmed down to give us those very long rolling waves. The mildness continued into the night with temperatures of 18°C right up to midnight.

continues. We had a night of thunder and almost continuous lightning, with sporadic rain. We got up to a very dark, stormy looking landscape. The sea was steel grey topped with white horses, the wind is very blustery and whistling around the house. The visibility is generally not too bad, we can still see Albania, but our mountain tops keep getting swallowed in mist and clouds. There are some occasional blue patches where the sun can briefly shine through. It is mild though which is to the good.
Yesterday turned out a much better day than expected or forecast. The early morning clouds mostly cleared away to give a nice sunny day for the most part. It was warm enough the previous night for at least three cicadas to chirp away in the evening. We had a power cut in the early evening last night so we headed into the village in search of light and warmth. Everywhere we could see around us was dark, with the exception of some lights by Roda Beach. On our walk back, power restored, it was a lovely clear starlit night with the lights of Albania seen across the channel. However as we turned towards the house the sky to the south and west was being illuminated with sheets of lightning.

lightning and distant thunder, we awoke to a clear, grey and overcast day. It was still extremely windy, but that does seem to be dying down. The temperature has dropped from a high of 17°C overnight, and is scheduled to continue dropping from now on. We are still warmer at the moment from this time last year. The humidity also has dropped and the dark outline of Albania is clear across a very stormy. white horsed topped sea. Not much detail can be seen, but clouds top the mountains and mist is reaching down the valleys. The clouds are too high to be caught on our mountain tops. The villages high up the mountainside will be getting a bit of a reprieve. These high winds and storms won't be helping the clear up in the south of the island.
Yesterday was a day of storms, thunder (distant) and lightning, with the wind getting extremely strong at times. The rain lashed down at times, but we did manage to get some shopping done in the breaks. What with the weather and camper problems we hadn't had a proper shop for over a week. I also wanted to get the dried fruit to start my Christmas cake off. As the day progressed the wind and the rain just got worse and by night time we were battened down in the house with torches and the camping stove handy in case of power cuts. Apparently the thunderstorms have been triggered by warm moist air at the surface combined with dew points around 15°C. This set of conditions cause super cell thunderstorms and hail. Corfu has had the lot these past week, hail, ice, storms, very high winds causing trees to up root and damage to property and (very sadly) life.
The temperature at 10.00am on Wednesday 15th November 2017 was 16.5°C, real feel 16°C, and the humidity 69% giving a dew point of 11°C. The temperature this day in 2016 was 13.1°C

Today was declared a day of National Mourning following severe flash floods in outskirts of Athens, 15 dead, 3 missing. Serious damage, a coach where 12 rescued sink in flooded underpass, countless cars washed away, piled up or sunk. No doubt many of you will have seen on the BBC News.
The weather's not improving, we have a 'medicane' approaching, due on Friday and over weekend. These are rare, like hurricanes but in Mediterranean, caused by warm air under colder air basically. Please visit Keep Talking Greece website for full description and map.
Its time to batten down even more, stay indoors and ride it out. Lets pray there is no more loss of life.
