Who needs a watch or a calendar when there are certain things that give away clues about the time of year? For a few nights now, we have had fireflies in increasing numbers, the orchids in the tall grasses are adding an ever-growing purple tinge, and the water tastes different!
Many years ago, my landlady came down, about this time of year, and said ’Stop drinking the tap water - it’s not safe any more!’ It turned out that she was informing me that, with the tourist season almost upon us, the water was being chlorinated, as in the UK. In the winter, they don’t seem to bother and, in her opinion, it was safer to drink then. Well, today we got the chlorine - probably not noticeable if you’ve just arrived from northern Europe, but very different if you live here.

Nip up to Platonas with some empty bottles and fill up at the spring - the water is from Nymfes and is the best on the island. Clean as a whistle and fresh. OR - nip up to Nymfes via Gill's and get a coffee on the way!!

I always drank the water from Xanthates, Wendy - if this chlorine continues, I might have to start going there again.

I agree the water at Nymfes is so clear and lush to drink. Since we moved to Nymfes we go and get the water on a regular basis. and by all means if your passing you can call in for coffee but not in coachloads as parking would be a big problem
