There have been a trio of terrapins that have been eluding Steve and me on our way into the village, beside Nino's on the Beach there is a ditch, and if you are quick when you peer over the wall beside it you can catch them sun bathing. But all too often all you get is a synchronised dive and the sound of them hitting the water. However yesterday morning I caught this one all alone, just looking up at me as if to say 'who are you for disturbing me'. I think it is a Balkan terrapin, which is getting rare on the main land but is still common here. Very rarely we might get one of the bigger terrapins exploring our ditches after heavy rain. So lucky to have so much wildlife on our doorstep.
