I arrived home on Monday from my first solo trip to Roda. My holiday did not get off to a good start as on arrival I was informed by Makis that I could only have a room for 1 week. This was disappointing to say the least as I had booked my 2 week stay back in August of last year. Ria was going to arrange for me to move into Makris after my first week but I was extremely unhappy with the room being offered. Anyway friends rallied round and on the Wednesday afternoon I moved into the Roda Inn Hotel. Helen and her team were brilliant, my stay with them was fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed the remainder of my holiday. I never felt on my own as I met up with old friends and made some new ones too. It was good to put faces to names at the FGT in my first week but unfortunately I did not make FGT the second week due to a small over indulgence the previous night!! Anyone considering going on their own should just go for it, I am certainly glad I did and am already planning my return, possibly for 3 weeks next time. I have to admit to being concerned about independent booking in the future and any suggestions as to trusted owners where I could possibly stay would be welcome. Missing Roda already Sharon x

So glad that you enjoyed it in the end Sharon, nice to have met you at the f.g.t. & you're forgiven for not making the second one - looks like you had the best of excuses! Ask Pipitsa about a booking for next year, she will go out of her way to make sure your stay is enjoyable, I'm sure plenty of other members wil have suggestions for you, or if you were happy enough at the Roda Inn, why not go there again. pete.

Hi Sharon glad you had a great time in wonderful Roda except for the mix up with Makis, did Ria explain why you had to move for the 2nd week and also did you booked with Makis direct. We are a bit concerned as we have booked to stay at Makis for 2 weeks next month having booked with Makis last September when we stayed there. From what Sharon told us Steve, it sounds very much like a one-off situation. Sharon was here alone and, even though it was a long-standing booking, Makis had a big family staying needing more than one room. All the same, it was badly handled, but Sharon coped well and dropped lucky at Roda Inn.

Glad you enjoyed your stay in Roda Sharon....I didn't know the Roda Inn had re-opened??.....I have been been going on my own since 2011 after spending many happy holidays in Roda with my late husband..........I stay at the Afroditi, always someone around, but \I feel as safe as houses in Roda........there are a lot of self catering apartments..just look on the forum for info.

Steve sums it up well when he says it was a one-off situation handled badly. A family had initially given Ria incorrect dates, once these were changed it coincided with my booking. I got the impression that this family were returning visitors and were given priority over me. It has not put me off Roda and I can't imagine anywhere else that I would want to holiday alone, hence my already planning a 3 week stay next year. I have also previously stayed at the Afrodite and Pegasus with my daughter. Unfortunately I have to travel in August when these hotels do not do single accommodation rates which makes it expensive. Yes I would love to stay with Helen at Roda Inn again but I have been told that her booking system can be a bit haphazard. Following this years experience I would like to be as sure as I can that my next holiday is trouble free. Sharon

Been staying at Makis for a long number of years & have never seen any problems like that before. Glad you got somewhere else to stay, Sharon. Kaz, I don't think the Roda Inn has been shut at all. Just don't open very late in the season. Maybe I'm wrong, just don't remember seeing it fully shut. Opened this year toward the end of my holiday - same last year.

Sharon, If you're happy with self catering try mara's appartments (are advertised in accomodation section), really nice appartments, been going for years, would recommend them to anyone. Be there 2nd Sept, can't wait.....

Hi Sharon,
An unfortunate event to happen on your first solo trip - Glad it all worked out well for you and you had a great time in Roda.
Regarding the Roda Inn - the last three years we have been in Rodain early/late May and have never seen it open.
As Jackie says i don't think it opens until quite late in the season.
This year with us going late August/early September i hope to see open - It will be a change from the newspapers plastered all over the windows!

Sharon you have my sympathies - we had a similar experience a few years ago (not at Makis) where we had to change rooms 24 hours into our holiday - very frustrating. I am glad you got sorted and that you enjoyed your holiday. You can book Angelina apartments independently (opposite Theodoros) but I dont know whether they have special "single occupancy" rates.
regards, Kath

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions for accommodation for next year. I know it's soon but Knowing that my holiday is booked is what gets me through the school year. I have emailed several owners and think I am going to book with Christofis. I have been most impressed with Paulines communications and she sounds lovely. My only reservation is possible noise issues from Drunken Sailor? Having said that I often arrive home in the early hours so would probably not effect me anyway, lol . Again many thanks for all your support and happy holidays to anyone yet to travel. Sharon xx
