Hi all!! My partner and I have just booked our first holiday to Roda and are really looking forward to it!! We have booked to stay at the Elizabeth apartments in August, but I have just read some reviews saying that staff can be un friendly if you don't spend money in the bar, we will spend money there on days we are there but we would like o split our time between the pool and beach! I know different people have different views but as it has been mentioned quite a few times I am now quite worried!! Has anyone got any views on this? Also can anybody tell me how long it would take to walk to the watersports on the beach? Thanks Sophie x

To your first question, I really wouldn't worry. I have always found the staff very friendly at the Elizabeth. They certainly don't expect you to stay around their pool all day, every day and spend loads. Saying that though, like all apartment owners, they make very little money from the apartment rates and rely on customers to spend some money on food and drinks at their bar. I have seen some families/couples in Roda spend all day around a pool after having just bought a bottle of water! If that were my bar/pool, I wouldn't be too happy. The food/snacks at the Elizabeth are very good as well. In response to your second question, it is about 5 minutes to the beach and then 5 minutes or so left along the beach to the watersports. I wouldn't worry about anything, you'll love it there. Tony

Thanks for your reply!! Of course I understand that, after speaking to my boss tonight (who is greek and has just returned from visiting family) I completely understand how important it is to support local businesses, we will probably end up having breakfast each morning as well as lunch when we are around the pool and drinks throughout! I just don't wish to upset anybody while I am on holiday! Thank you so much for your reply and also info on the beach! I think I had a moment of panic! Plenty more to come before August I should think!! I am really looking forward to it though!! Sophie x

I am sure you will love both Roda and the Elizabeth Apartments. Have you looked at the streetview tour of Roda? If not click on this link www.justcorfu.co.uk/roda.aspDrag the little blue man onto the map and take the tour! The Elizabeth Apartments however are just off of the blue route (the pool to the right) The Reviews of the Elizabeth are also very good on that site!

I would mirror what uptonogood has said already. We have stayed at the Elizabeth for many years and have met many people who have been even longer than us. Indeed we are going back again this year! We have never felt pressured into spending money on food or drinks and have always found the attitude of the owners to be friendly and welcoming. If it was as bad as some people make out then they wouldn't have that much repeat custom so they must be doing something right! Also, some people seem to have trouble grasping the concept of Self Catering and what should and shouldn't be provided and that seems to sour their judgement. I would say you have nothing to worry about other than having a great time!

Hi Sophie Glad you managed to get booked. Did you go independent in the end? Don't hesitate to ask any more questions you may have and make sure you take a look at the link that Uptonogood put on. It's great that you can take your own little tour around the main parts of the village. If you start your search at the main crossroads (there is a drop down menu at the top), click on the second from right icon at the bottom to make it easier to navigate. Turn the picture so that you are facing a little lane with a black car in front of you, click on the blue arrow to move you forward five times. You'll now see a sign on the right for the Elizabeth apartments, they are just a bit further down on the right. If you keep clicking on the blue arrow you can go for your own little walk around the village and see how close you'll be to the beach! It's actually closer than it seems on the tour and you can be at the other end of the beach where the water sports are in less than ten minutes. I'm sure you'll fall in love with Roda like the rest of us and this will be the first of many holidays you have there. Nikki

Thank you mapleoak for your reply!! I am really glad to hear some good first hand reviews! Hi nikki, I didn't go independent in the end (I no shame on me!!) I really wanted to but my partner and I decided as we haven't been to Roda yet we would book a package, if we ever return a second time as so many people do it would be independent! Thank you for some more information on the link I haven't had a proper look yet as haven't been on the laptop but I can't wait to have a virtual tour!! Thank you everyone for your replies Sophie x

Have no worries about the owners of Elizabeths!!! They are one of the nicest, most generous families we know in Corfu...one of many. We are returning to Roda....again...and although we go independently (much cheaper!) we will be spending most of our time at Elizabeths! In a fortnight the 5 of us (or 7 if my parents join us) will have breakfast 5-6 times, lunch most days and 2-3 evening meals (you'll be spoilt for choice for wonderful food in Roda!). With drinks on top (and believe me I have a family of fish) the amount we spend pales into insignificance compared to a holiday in the UK. I'd go as far as saying that it's holidaying families who get a little annoyed when other people sit in the bar for the evening, enjoying the entertainment and not spending any money! We all end up feeling very protective of the businesses in the village. Relax, enjoy and explore our most favourite place in the world
