Just seen in the Daily Mirror that as well as all the usual road safety gear that you need to drive on the continent, from July you need to carry 2 self-test breathalyser kits when driving in France. You can download a full set of rules at www.halfords.compete.

Hi Pete,
Personally i think anyone who drinks and drives ( in any country) should lose their licence immediately and for life.

Couldn't agree more David and also think it should be zero tolerance just to remove any doubts about the limit. pete.

I agree with you both, but you know they will never do it, to much revenue lost plus more pubs would go under. Supermarkets would gain from it all. Just my thoughs Andy

Agree with all of the above wholeheartedly. Having travelled France considerably over the past couple of years, being the good driver I am, I have all that is listed for a trip, now including the breath test equipment. However, in the dozen times or so we have travelled through France, we have yet to see any signs of authority who would or could enforce this. We see the Genderame on leaving the French Port, and maybe the odd Municipal Police checking carparks and beaches, but seriously that is about it. Needless to say, I am a firm believer of when in another country one abides by their rules, so will continue to carry the items listed.

the law came into force on 1st July but the police will be issuing warnings only until it becomes compulsory on 1st November, after that if you don't have one you incur a fine. You can purchase one during your drive or from Halfords for just over £5.??
