I have been coming to Roda for about 12 years now, sometimes more than once a year, so you could say that I rather like the place ;D. When I first discovered Roda I stayed at the Kosmas with one or two of my children, for 4 or 5 years. We watched the pool being made at the Metallinos and tried there for a year or two. The whole families at both places, together with all the locals we met out and about in the village, made you feel very welcome. In fact it was being remembered by name on our second visit that sold Roda to me. In fact many years later my Roda friends still ask after my kids.
Anyhow they got too old to be dragged on holiday with their Mum, though they have been back since as family holiday, so, as I felt very safe in Roda I bit bullet and booked with the boys at the Metallinos. Got a flight, booked a studio and got them to book a taxi. No sweat.
Since then I have holidayed many years in Roda alone, gaining many friends both from UK and from Roda. It is like coming home.
I always check package against independent, mostly independent wins even if have to hire studio for 2 for sole use!
But have done a package as it was early season and the difference not worth the extra effort required for independent booking.
The natives are very friendly, in fact I speak to more people walking through Roda than I do at home. Be brave, go to the bars, eat in the restaurants, gain new friends. Party all night if you want. Do the excursions, have a great time. I highly recommend it
