Well, home again after another bonzer holiday !!!
Escaped from Newcastle 'on the wings of a storm' !! A bit lumpy at first but once we were at cruising altitude smooth as a baby's bottom !! Jet 2 lived up to expectations with 'extra leg room' booked as Wendy had baby Chloe on her lap. Love that Jet 2 !!
Arrived on time, transfer c/o Olympic OK but long way round !!
Booked into Maisonette at Theodorus which was first class.
Usual first few days running around trying to meet all our friends and getting into the non-routine !!
Had a newbie with us, Jim, Caths husband who was really stunned at just how laid-back and friendly the village is.
Unfortunately Jim turned out to be a mossie magnet and he was bitten to bits !! After much persuasion he went up to the Pharmacy but it was too late as he had several infected bites and was advised to go to the Doctors . His last 5 days of his hols were spent on anti-biotics with the dreaded stoppage of his beloved John Smiths !! Even with this sad state of affairs he was making plans for next visit ( topped up with anti-histamines, garlic capsules, Vitamin B1, and flame thrower !! )
Photos will follow but some have already appeared on Facebook ... 'Fairies in Roda' care of Rachael and Sweetums !!!
Only one real 'downer ' on hols ....
The (non) Greek night at Smilies.
I've read many Posts about Smilies and their Greek nights and have had a quick look for myself when passing, so I thought it about time to experience it for ourselves.
Stopped in at Crusoes for a 'quick one' and to collect all the Crew only to learn that the dancers had cancelled at the last minute.
No probs, I thought, we will still go as I had booked 7 of us in and it would be churlish to cancel as Jim and I had put on the Kilts for the night and I know the food is excellent.
Our table was all ready for us but as I sat down I felt an undercurrent of un-ease which I put down to the lack of dancers.
After waiting an hour and a half for our main course to arrive I was informed, very politely and apologetically that the delay was caused by the lack of kitchen staff. ( I found out later the 2 of the staff hadn't turned up !! )
Meanwhile, jut to liven-up proceedings, the Ladies Toilet blocked and we were treated to a minor flood !!!
When our food arrived ( two hours after sitting down ) Janiemou's didn't !!
After a gentle 'nudge' Janie's main course arrived ...... It had been left in the oven !!!
The food was, as always in Smilies, excellent, but the 'edge had been taken off by the delay etc.
We were, to some degree, recompensed by not being charged for any drinks ( the Red wine was superb !! ) but overall the night was a complete disaster.
I must give credit to the Staff of Smilies for making a valiant effort in the face of such adverse conditions but I have to rate it as a disaster !!
I WILL go back to Smilies again for another bash ...... They deserve at least that for their efforts. Bravo Smilies !!!!
Back to work soon, making plans for April visit ...... then May...... then August/Sept (??)
Not much else to say ..... Roda is the way it always is
