Some of Roda's autumn & spring weather is about to make an entrance. Visitors for the last week of the season may wonder what is going on as crazy southerlies, sweeping up from Africa, bring winds that are extremely variable, increasing temperatures, and green & orange dust. One day you may be lazing on the beach, and the next one diving for cover. Everything that can get blown about has to be secured and all the drying leaves still left on the trees lose their final grip.
Daytime temperatures could well reach 250C and nightime temperatures an unbelievable 200C. It is not what most holidaymakers come to Roda for, but it is spectacular and it is what makes this Island so special. As you can tell, we like it, and we have already started battening down the hatches in readiness for the mid-week frenzy.

You are right pete, here in holland it is 7 degrees at the moment and raining. Tonight it is going to freeze ( - 1 degree), so I am very happy we put all of our flowers ( those who are in pots) inside (in the glasshouse) last weekend.

No storms yet, but we've just walked back from the Village and there is a small ship anchored in the bay - a sure sign that something is imminent.

We had an hour or two of rain this morning - possibly the first since September. Same again tomorrow and then a return to good weather reaching maybe 26 0C next week. Niki is complaining that her well is low and her cabbages are suffering. Our friend in the bay now has company in the form of container ship 'Belfin' - so maybe the crazy southerlies are still coming. This was the view earlier:

As I finished typing, the SE wind freshened and started howling through our apartment, a sign of things to come. Roast chicken and locked doors tonight, I think

Bah! You don't know when you've got it good! Winter's arrived here, early. -1, last night. Had to scrape the frost from the car, the past 2 mornings.

Yesterday we had snow in the midlands, very unexpected. Minus four during the night and still below freezing this morning

Bleh! I hate snow.
I'm glad we very rarely get it much in this area. Even when other places in Scotland are covered, the Central belt (apart from a couple of places) doesn't get it too bad.
