Not sure if you will be able to open the page if not a member, so here is the text:
CREATE A PATH ! EVOLVE A WALK !
DDIKEOMA Institute, an Institute for the sustainable evolution of the Corfiot culture and within the area of “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)” floats the idea of “Green Tourism”, an alternative way for tourists and visitors who would like to experience Corfu in a unique different way.
“GREEN CORFU NET (GCN)” is a project that will last three years and will have as its main scope to set off an alternative tourist product which Corfu is able to offer. The project is based on the unique characteristics of the island’s culture and it will give a different aspect of Corfiots daily living, through the mapping of different alternative routes alongside the island. These routes will consist of a starting point, a planned course and a finish point and they will include the trespassing of every kind of Corfu’s sightseeing which has to do with history, nature, culture, tasting of local products, customs, local traditions and anything that it could be the basic element of an alternative tourist proposal.
During the realization of the project, Corfu will have the opportunity to become a tourist destination not only for a few months but for the whole year or else for fifty-two thematic weeks, as GCN suggests to.
The combination of the planned routes and the fifty-two thematic weeks will not only be the ideal link between Corfiots and their drastic actions for their island, but also the perfect transitional stage from massive tourism to personalized tourism.
A perfect example of a thematic week, on which the plan for the thematic weeks is based, is the famous “Passion Week at Corfu”. During that week a variety of religious and other cultural events take place, which involve not only Corfiots but visitors too?
The history of Corfu through the centuries offers a great opportunity to create a yearly agenda full of interesting themes, events and activities.
A basic element for the planning of GCN is the water not only as a precious natural resource, but also as an alternative tourist product through water activities, such as sub-aquatic tours and tour of the island with a boat. As it can be seen, water had and still has an important impact in the evolution of customs and culture. Through the innovative research programme GCN could lead to improvement of the quality of life both socially and culturally.
The entire procedure will rely on new technologies which obviously are friendly to the environment. It will also be accessible from everyone anywhere in the world via the Internet.
A very important role will also play the precious group of the local Tourist Guides, which will contribute to the optimization of the project.
Concluding, GCN targets on people regardless of age, religion, color or skills, but with a strong feeling of determination, which lead them to act for the benefit of Corfu.
GCN is the ideal instrument for those people who would like to experience Corfu in a different way.
