Do you remember that wonderful smell of grilled meat that first hits you when you arrive in Corfu? The smell that brings you back year after year because there is nothing like it at home? Then you should be here today!
Similar to the concept of Shrove Tuesday & Mardi Gras, ‘Burnt Thursday’ (Tsikopempti) recognises that soon it will be the beginning of Lent when meat is traditionally omitted from the diet. Today is something of an indulgence when the smell of grills & barbeques permeates the towns & villages of Greece. The consumption of charred meat is massive by any standards and will not be repeated until Easter.
What are you eating tonight? If you are grilling meat, then fling open your windows and let everyone savour the aromas that you so look forward to on your next visit to Greece.
