JeanP came to our forum get-together today and revealed a new problem for people wanting to come to Roda. She tried to book two weeks at Makis Apartments and was told they were only available for one week. That is what she booked but, when she arrived, it appears that there are vacancies. So, Jean gets only half of what she wanted and Makis has empty rooms - how does that make sense?
Could it be that tour companies like Allbury Travel make more profit from one week than they do from two? Are they prepared to compromise their customers to such an extent in order to make extra profit for shareholders? Why will ABTA do nothing about it?
Anyone have any ideas?

That's awful. But it wouldn't surprise me if that's what it is. They charge almost the same amount for a week as a fortnight. So they get their money - they pay Makis for a week & they still make a shedload of money. And then Makis has empty rooms & doesn't make any money.
The holiday companies are really, really annoying me just now. Either you can't get to Roda at all or their ripping off the customers & the owners.
Sorry if I make no sense. I'm tired & have to head to bed.
Night. x

Or maybe it's the flight that wasn't available?

I think Jacks has hit on the head with both her accounts. You book one week, and it costs £250 for example, and a 2nd week, will bump it up to £325. So in theory for the operator it is better to book two separate weeks, rather than a two week holiday. The flight theory was also correct.
Another theory is the rooms. Some hotels and/or accommodations can be shared by one, two or more operators. In which case this travel company may have had just the one room available for the one week only, although the sharing companies could have rooms with longer vacancies.
Sadly this is the dilemma that is hitting us more and more. My theory is this. I think the owner of the hotel/accommodation should be the one who decides what rooms are available, with maybe the shared companies having equal terms on all rooms. A sort of first come first serve basis. This means the owner can they give a yes if he has a room available for the two weeks.
I hope that was explained clearly enough.

We managed to get two weeks in Makis when we booked 6 weeks ago, and apparently, they were the last rooms available from 3rd August flying from Newcastle. Just checked teletext holidays, and there are more for the same date, but are now £40 more expensive p/person So much for last minute deals

Hi Andy - we are only just beginning to learn of the tricks that these companies are playing to make money. One companies' reps actually earn commission if they manage to sell a house to a tourist! It's high time someone realised the potential of Corfu as a destination for the independent traveller. All we need are regular and affordable flights, and the resorts, through websites like this, will do the rest - everybody gains and we all get a good deal.
