I don't really understand exchange rates and such like and I usually take travellers cheques on holiday but what Iwould like to know is - would it be better for me (and Roda) if i took my pounds with me in cash and exchanged them for euros in Roda? I realise the safety aspect of losing money etc or the unlikeley event of being mugged with cash but I plan to keep it in the safe at the apartment.
OR - should I stick with my travellers cheques? Do you lose money this way?
I appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

Hi Andipandi, the exchange rate is the same for pound notes and travellers cheques, usually you have to show your passport if you are using cheques so you have the added risk of losing it, safety wise i don't think that there is a problem with either method. Myriam at Dromeas car hire is putting the latest exchange rate on the forum everyday - under the "visitor guides" heading. Hope this helps. pete.

Hi Andipandi - To squeeze as much as possible out of the system, bringing cash with you will get you the best rate. The safety issue has to be your personal decision - it all depends how confident you are about what you hear. We use Nationwide, which is still the best option.

For regular customers, either changing money and/or hiring cars, Dromeas will always try to give you the best possible deal.

hi everyone, its always better to brink a cash then travellers cheques. With cheques you pay two times commission, which is no good for you, plus you have to carry your passport, and you can lose it.
I had already experience this year with lost passports, and believe me it is not fun at all.

I have recently got a Nationwide Flex Account which gives you free cash withdrawals in Greece along with various other countries. This is how I plan on taking my money this year but in previous years I have taken cash and exchanged it once there.

Well that's given me a lot to think about,
I will look into both the Nationwide and Post Office options. I did always cash my cheques at Dromeas last year, their rate was good and they were really friendly (with lovely air conditioning) but as mentioned - I hated carrying my passport with me all evening.
Thanks for your help folks.
