Gosh, I feel like a newbee to Roda, I've only been coming for about... 8 years, it hasnt really changed that much in that time, places have come and gone, I missed Benny's this year, thats were Rob and I would sit and watch the world go by. The first time I arrived in Roda it was by complete chance. We were staying in Kassiopi in a right dump (honestly) and we had popped into Roda and had breakfast at the Roda Inn on the front and I don't know I just felt right. Anyway about 3 days later I decided that I couldnt stand Kassiopi anymore and wanted to get a flight home, remembering that I had seen the Tourist information centre in Roda I asked Rob (not saying why) to take me there and I asked there if she could help me get a flight as I was NEVER coming back to Corfu again, it was so bad I burst into tears. Rob suggested we moved to Roda and Julie there contacted Pipitsa, meeting Pipitsa was in itself an event, she was so bight, happy and friendly... we stayed for 5 days (all we could afford) but it was fantastic. Just to have somewhere to sleep that felt safe was reward enough... and I fell in love with Roda and just have to keep coming back.......

Sounds like Spiros - there's a surprise! After the Milton Hotel on the right there was a bar/taverna when we first came nine years ago. He also has some apartments down in the olive groves. If this is him, he is still here and you often see him fishing in front of the Coral Hotel and you'll see his nets on Sam's jetty. We looked at the apartments as a long-term let but we quickly turned them down. A few days later he came looking for us shouting - I thought - 'I luv you, I luv you!'. In fact it was 'I look you, I look you' - he'd seen his son and wanted to revise his offer. We didn't accept, but we're best mates now because one day three years ago I helped him carry his nets. ;D

I can remember my first time in Roda, it was September 1976 we had just had the hottest summer ever in England and then we went to Roda. My husband John and me stayed at the Roda Beach Hotel and walked down the beach every evening to Nikos Pangalos' taverna "Kind Hearted Place" where he and his family always made us very welcome. Angelo who has (or had!) the shop across from the taverna was a very young waiter! When our daughter was born in 1980 we took her to Roda and both Nikos and his sister-in-law Mary, really made a fuss of her every time we went back to Roda right up to their deaths in 2007. We still go back to Corfu usually every couple of years but now we stay with friends in Acharavi but always walk down to Roda to eat in Nikos place, the taverna isn't the same without them both.

Thanks Averil - all those happy memories are welcomed on the forum - they are what bring visitors back to Roda every year. Pangalos taverna now has its own webpage on rodaonline. Take a look at KIND HEARTED PLACESteve
