Hi .. new here .. as you can tell from my post count.
Why do you choose Roda over other resorts? What is so special, to you, about it?

Hi Saffy & welcome to the forum. Why do i choose Roda ? Where do i start? From the moment i start the descent of mount Pantokrator and head down to the village i start to feel totally relaxed, from the minute you enter the village you are made to feel one of the "family", everyone makes you feel so welcome whether it's your first visit or your 21st, there is no sense of being "ripped off" like some other places, you feel totally safe walking the streets at night. I could go on & on and bore you to death but i'm sure plenty of our members will reply to your question, in two weeks time i'll be there for my 26th (i think) visit to the north of corfu & roda - it must be doing something right. Enjoy the forum & feel free to ask anything that you like - i'm sure someone will have the answer. pete.

Thank you Pete .. Am desperately trying to persuade my husband that we really need a holiday .. I love Greece, but Corfu is one of the islands I haven't been to and feel I really need to visit. Pah .. I need to go to work now, but will hopefully get time to log on whilst there.

Hi Saffy,
I would totally reiterate Petes comments - the minute we arrive in Roda we have a feeling of "coming home" we feel so relaxed and cannot wait to meet the 'friends' we have made over the past 14 or so years that we have been visiting.
Put it this way, if someone had told me 14 years ago when we booked our first holiday to Roda (purely because our young daughter liked the picture of the swimming pool in the brochure) that we would be coming back every year I would have laughed in their face - but we were hooked from that very first visit. Long after my husband and I have had enough to drink and have gone back to our apartment our now grown-up daughter regularly stays out and meets up with the greek and english friends she has made over the years and we have no worries about her getting back to our apartment safely whether she has walked home alone or if one of her greek friends has accompanied her. The same cannot be said when she has a night out in Newcastle when I cannot relax until I hear her return home!
She holidayed with a friend and without us a couple of years ago and all of our greek friends (bar/restaurant/apartment owners) discreetly kept an eye on her even to the extent of letting her have a 'free' last night as she had ran out of money (groan) - they wouldnt dream of us reimbursing them when we holidayed after her.
This is just a snapshot of why we love the place - others will follow with their reasons.
Best wishes, Kath.

I agree with everything Pete's said. It's like going back home for me. Back to see "family" that I haven't seen for a while. They remember you, year after year & welcome you back into their family, like you've never been away.
It's very safe - even at night. I once went to Roda on my own and didn't have any fears, walking back to my apartment from the bars. And I had even been offered a lift home to my apartment every night - and it wasn't anyone trying any funny business. It's a guy I class as being like a Greek brother to me & he wanted to make sure that I had no fears going home at night.
I just love the place so much & did from my 1st visit, in 1994.
Hope you can get your husband to get away & I hope you choose Roda. I'm sure it'll hook you, the way it's hooked the rest of us.
Welcome to the forum, btw.
Jackie x

Hahah .. I am actually LOVING these replies. We've been to Lassi, Kefalonia 4 times and from what you are all saying, it seems that Roda is as friendly.
I simply cannot wait to walk into the beautiful, warm sea .. walk out up to my middle .. turn around .. take a deep breath, look towards the island and feel all those tensions draining from my shoulders.
Fingers crossed on this for me. Have e mailed him but no reply as yet .. sort of tempted to book it anyway but ..

Hi again Saffy, if you do come over , what type of holiday would you be planning ? If you want a package deal there is a list of tour operators and their various accomodation under the holiday information section on the forum, if you prefer independent travel there are lots of appartments on the main website, there are also various reviews from members of different places here on the forum. Hope this helps. pete.

Cheers Pete .. I really don't care .. my OH keeps saying we can't afford a holiday so as cheap as possible. I've actually found one S/C for 7 nights for £199 each, which can't be bad can it!!?

Dave don't give up the day job! Saffy go for the 7 days suss the village out (you won't be disappointed) and spend the next twelve months saving and planning a longer stay next year - thats probably how most people started.

Welcome to the forum Saffy. Like Jackie I've been going to Roda since 1994, almost every year and sometimes twice. As everyone said before me, you really are made to feel like part of the family, especially if you try to speak a couple of words of Greek! I always refer to Roda as my second home and can't see me ever going anywhere else.
Hope you can convince your partner to go, you won't regret it. ;D Nikki
