Well that's the name of the book at least. For most of the year it's true - 'avrio' literally means 'tomorrow' - a bit like 'manana' but without the sense of urgency. More realistically, 'avrio' does not mean 'tomorrow', it means no more than 'not today' - a Greek speciality if ever there was one.
However, if there is one day of the year when that is not true, it's today! The eve of the tourist season when all those 'avrios' come home to roost - the day when every job left since November, just has to be finished. It's almost dark and I've just walked through part of the village - the pace is manic! - everybody is at it - lights are on, strimmers are strimming, drills are drilling and there is a sense of urgency and application that most Grecophiles would simply not believe.
Not everybody is working to the limit though - Theodoros has been working for a month, Eleni's garden is as smart as ever and her new balcony roof is watertight, Christofis is painted throughout and even Pipitsa is just about finished. Dolphin has been receiving Floyd's attention for weeks, Crusoes is ready, Maggies looks very smart, New Port is open, Opa has a new roof and has been open for some time, and don't forget island Tropicana!
Tomorrow - we will see - Dave will be in the village at 1:00pm, together with a few others. Will Roda be ready? - not completely - but we're nearly there, and don't forget - you're friends are waiting for you! Kalo Taxidi!

Well, everything seems to be taking shape in Roda............and for those people who are on their way over, HAPPY HOLIDAYS,,,,,,,,never mind Susie, there's always next year as Jacks said........we have another 3months wait, but it will soon come round again...........Have read the book "Avrio Never Comes"............didn't know it meant "not to-day" though.............when we were asked when we would be leaving Roda, we always said "Avrio" (to-morrow)...just wish we could say "not to-day" !!!........thanks for that bit of info Steve.........ENJOY RODA..KAZ

Hang on Susie - if you have to miss a year in Roda, it doesn't mean that people will forget you! You know what this place is like - you are part of the family. Just get back as soon as you can! ;D
