The European carpenter bee can be seen all around Roda once the weather starts to warm up. They are around even now on calm sunny days. We see lots of tourists jumping out of their path in panic, but this is mainly because of their size. The fact is that the males are harmless since they do not have a stinger and, although female bees do have a stinger, they are not aggressive and will not sting unless directly provoked. So don't jump around, just let them get on with pollinating and burrowing and enjoy watching them. Here is one photographed last week and also what last year's parents did to my woodpile.
