Hi Treece - I just came across this quote - just by chance! Honestly! William Arthur Ward (American dedicated scholar, author, editor, pastor and teacher) said: “The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.” ;D ;D Steve

working with people (as I do) I always wonder about agenda's when someone makes a negative out of a positive...
Very good Steve, I like that quote!

I can assure you all that I have no agenda, good or bad for the comments I have made, and can also assure you that I am am far from pessimistic about the work being completed on time (remember the Olympic stadium in 2004? The Greeks proved the whole world wrong!) I am then being realistic I think, to suggest that with very little time left until the season starts, it is cutting things very finely to get it all done before the beginning of May. Only last year, Sidari main street was dug up around this time, and to travel that street now you can tell it was rushed to get finished, with the road having more lumps and bumps than a rollercoaster (and yes, they are now digging it all up again for the second year running!) Also I remember last year, well into the season maybe late May - early June, someone in their infinite wisdom saw fit to lay the beach road between Acharavi and Roda with bitumen without warning, therefore making it almost unpassable by car or on foot. Things such as this do little to instill much confidence to be honest, and also cast a negative view on first time visitors to the area, which with the current situation with tourism to the island, we scarcely need. I really don't want to get into a tit for tat arguement about this, so I will leave you merry band to it whilst I go and complain about the wind AND adjust my sails just to be sure!

If people are coming to Greece and expect everything to be up to UK standards then I would suggest they are in the wrong place.
Part of the charm of Greece and especially Corfu is the laid back way of life.
OK maybe they take "Avrio" a little too literally at times but things do get completed in time. Maybe just in time but none the less they are done. So the roads are a little bumpy... so what ... take your foot of the accelerator, dawdle instead of marching... stop to look at the scenery not the pot hole....relax
And if you want to compare Greek road building to UK road building can I suggest you look at the M1, M25, M40, expansion to Heathrow need I say more. They caused horrendous hold ups, and cost a fortune.
If someone is looking for everything to be to British standards then they are in the wrong place. Remember this is Corfu and things are done to Corfu standards.

Hi everyone, all my friends ask me why I go to Roda every year, why don't you try somewhere else, why because I like Roda, the people, the weather and the fantastic greek hospitality. The thought of not going on holidayafter working 24/7 shifts all year outways the possibility of a bit of inconvenience due to the drainage works 100%!! joolsd x
